Read Guy Hallowes' piece on Mandela on today’s OLO. Compromise where necessary while standing firm on fundamental principles; renouncing violence; understanding your opponents' position; patience; humility; forgiveness and reconciliation. 5. The offer made by Israel in 2000/1

The Arabs are entitled to reject any offers that do not suit them - as are the Jews.

But where has 92 years of rejection got the Arabs?

It is a brave spirit who ventures into this conflict believing he can resolve it.

The latest - "the two-state solution" - espoused by Obama, Kerry, the European Union and the Quartet - has proved an abject failure.

My following proposal could well be next on the list of attempts to help resolve the conflict:

Direct negotiations between Israel and Jordan conducted pursuant to:
1. The Mandate for Palestine and article 80 of the UN Charter
2. Security Council Resolution 242
3. The Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty 1994

Abbas has made it clear

1. No Jews in NATO forces or any third party charged with supervising an agreement between Israel and the PLO

2. No Israeli - of whom 80% are Jews - living on Palestinian land.

3. The 350000 living in the West Bank will have to pack up and get out, No doubt their synagogues will be trashed as happened in Gaza in 2005 and Jerusalem between 1948-1967
