Good bile and bad: tolerating Alan Jones : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 3/10/2012

What is peculiar about this particular attack on Jones, as deserved as it might be seen in some quarters, is why it did not happen earlier.

Bob Francis is stil on air after years of suggesting refugees should be shot and drowned, but one thing I would like to add.

Jones was never hunted down by police over the Cronulla riots that he actually incited but the public and police and pollies were ready to steal the young child of a young Jordanian mum because he held up a banner he found in the streets and she didn't understand it.

The lynch mob in Adelaide were still whining on about her evilness two weeks after no riot happened in Australia.

Then there were the claims that nice christian folk don't riot when upset over a cartoon or shout out for deaths - except of course all those good shire folk and happy clappers in Cronulla who wanted to kill the f..........g lebs.

Why not get up Gillard for the obscenity of flogging refugees to poor neighbours as hostages to rotten and illegal law making here.

This issue has had its day. The bad boy has been suitably chastised and has apologised, well sort of?
If you agree with and approve of the Alan Jones message; and off colour inappropriate remarks or patent Islamiphobia, then keep on listening?
If not, then simply respond by using the ultimate censor, the off button or tuning knob?
Jones has a little more to offer, than simple endless vitriol!
I have heard him as a public speaker, in passionate evocation for a worthy cause he believed in; and, clearly taking the audience with him!
If we believe in a fair go, then Alan, with all his faults and detractors, deserves one?
If that's not your view, then sign the petition and boycott the products he and the station he partly owns, advertises.
I don't know why he seems to hate Julia so much?
Nor am I comfortable with the sight of a seemingly delusional paranoid Jones, who seems to think that the whole world is agin him?
Perhaps there is an underlying health issue connected to a sedentary lifestyle or dietary preferences?
Perhaps he is exhibiting the early signs of clinical dementia, and where such unjustified abusive outbursts are almost commonplace and or, so sad?
Perhaps Julia is the only one coming out of this issue, with her remaining composure and integrity intact, by simply ignoring the Jones's outburst, with the utter contempt such, beyond the pale, abuse deserves?
Whatever you believe or think, perhaps we could starve Jones persona, of any further notoriety, by simply drawing a line under this episode.
Two wrongs or more, [well, he said, she said, kindy sandpit behaviour,] will never ever make a right or justify the abuse!
Enough already!
Rhrosty.

SP, I was not talking about France, I was talking about the nonsense in Sydney that had no effect on anyone in Adelaide but they were on about it 2 weeks later.

The mother did nothing wrong but the pollies and media were ready to lynch her.

'A degree of corruption in the media and corporate sphere has always been acceptable. In April 2004, the Chairman of the Australian Broadcasting Authority, David Flint, was shown to have penned various gushing letters to Jones. (This, incidentally, made fellow shock jock John Laws suspicious – were the two having it off?) In 2004, Jones was cleared for other "cash-for-comment' related deals apparently made with Telstra, courtesy of Flint. The plot thickened just that little bit more.'

Spell hypocrasy Bimoy.

Write it out 100 times.

Then tell me how your particular piece of oafish commentary is relevant to a discussion about Jones oafish comment about Gillard's late father.

Then tell my why the personal attacks on Tony Abbott and his relationships with women as perpretrated by the Labor Ministers aren't seen as asking the tacit question

'Hey Marg and you girls why do you put up with this mysognist bloke?'

Then tell me why you have been absolutely silent on those particularly oafish attacks.

Spell consistancy Bimoy.

Write it out 100 times.

Tony Lavis you'd agree with this too... wouldn't you?

And finally Bimoy can you tell me what sort of Grubs beat up volunteer Surf-Life Savers?

I'll accept a non-reply as you taking your time and considering the underlying questions, with a view to you penning an appropriate article:

1. How is the all too prevalent media bias affecting the tone of political discussion in this country.
2. What responsibility do media commentators have to raise the tone of political discussion in this country.

I know what you were doing. And it’s a little off the subject of this thread, as one poster has hinted at above. However, if you think you have a case, start a new thread on the issue & we’ll battle it out (weapons of your choice).
