Good bile and bad: tolerating Alan Jones : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 3/10/2012

What is peculiar about this particular attack on Jones, as deserved as it might be seen in some quarters, is why it did not happen earlier.

the tax payer ABC/SBS is far more repugnant than 'shock ' jocks who are not on the public purse. The arrogance and smugness of the latte sippers who are constantly invited on to the ABC might not come across as crude but display much more self rightousness than most. Tony Jones, David Marr, Peter Singer, Deveny just to name a few. Their bile towards Abbott can not even be masked as it wasn't against Howard..

There is general agreement that the remarks made by Alan Jones in respect to The Prime Minister’ recent bereavement was both uncalled for and ugly.

But the ugliness of Jones’ remarks at the university Liberal club falls into insignificance compared to the extreme ugliness of the petition, “It is time…..” The petition plus the orchestrated postings against Jones is by any objective assessment an attack on the free expression of opinion. To be specific any opinion critical of the ALP or Greens has to be suppressed

As for the Labour Party spokespersons, they are clearly motivated by self-preservation. When one reads of the vitriolic attacks by Latham, Albanese, Roxon and others, one can only conclude that hypocrisy permeates the Left. The obvious conclusion is that the only way the ALP or their fellow travellers are able to defend themselves, is by vindictiveness. To paraphrase the late President Harry Truman, if the Gillardits can’t stand the heat, they should get out of the kitchen.

Offensive oafs appeal to simple uneducated people. This issue has already had too much airtime.

Scary that he was seen as relevant for a young liberals do. How can this sad old man be relevant to a group of young people?

If the world is so much smarter, Jon J, how did we finish up with Gillard as PM.

Alan should have used ALP approved vitriol and called her an “unflushable turd”, instead of using the throwaway line as he did.

It was not meant seriously, and for those who reject politically correct restraints on humour, it gave us a good laugh.

Everyone knows that her father was proud of the unflushable Juliar, and Alan’s remark was mere buffoonery.

It highlights as what losers the ALP and the left regard themselves, when they throw themselves which such fury on an occasional instance from Jones of what they produce in great volume and more reprehensible in form, routinely every day.

I think we are seeing to much moremanufactured indignation from media and politicians. Lets face it, it's rather like listenning to a bunch of school children in the yard at playtime all calling each other names.

Even six year olds respond with greater maturity with the old "sticks and stones...."

I've never heard such a soft bunch of pathetic blouses as I have this week. I have to wonder how all these bleaters would survive in commercial enterprises? We have an an Act passed in 1994. If anyone feels agreived by abuse, villification or disrimination, they can make a case under that Act. If not, suck it up and get a life.

The amaount of energy we have sucked out of the system on this issue is rude when we consider the real issues Australia faces. A pox on the bleaters.

I have never listened to Jones, & I find it interesting that so many who hate him, know so much about his program. Do they all listen to him, meanwhile throwing rocks at the radio, or do they take the word of the current crop of puerile ABC presenters.

What ever the case, is he really worth all this rubbish?

As a refugee from the worsening propaganda of "our" ABC, I did listen to the last couple of months of the John Laws show, amazed that what I heard bore little resemblance to what "our" ABC had led me to expect.

Since then I have been unable to find anything better than my local FM station, where they play music, rather than propaganda. Even if the adds are a bit puerile, that is better than todays ABC.

When ever with hope I have again tried our ABC, I have only found programs presented by a growing number of silly little girls, [what ever their age], bringing an increasing number of C grade academics to the microphone, it is an insult to any one's intelligence. One can only take so much of the bull dust passed as leaned pontificating, on the most recent topic in the inner city lata coffee shop.

I am afraid nothing short of moving the entire ABC to Longreach, or perhaps Alice Springs will ever improve it. As for Jones, just be happy that you don't have to fund him, as we do the the Abominable Broadcasting Clowns.
