Liz Truss v Rishi Sunak

Interesting times ahead for the UK.

It has celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and
now faces the election of a new Prime Minister after
the resignation of Boris Johnson. The two front
runners for the Conservative Party are worth a closer
look.

We have former Goldman Sachs analyst and pandemic
chancellor Rishi Sunak up against one-time accountant
turned foreign secretary - Liz Truss.

An interesting pair. Sunak promises a return to "traditional
conservative economic values."
While Truss is called the " human hand grenade because she
gets things done."

The link below tells you more:

Who would you vote for - and why?

Good question Foxy

The engineer in me goes for Sunak, an engineer never trusts a truss.
However, the accountant in me does support Liz, I also believe experience with foreign affairs is a good attribute.Especially in light of the global turmoil we are currently experiencing.

Winner- Liz Truss

Hi VE,

I haven't yet totally made up my mind. Rishi Sunak coming from
wealth and privilege and having such impressive educational
qualifications is possibly more of a fit for the conservative
party. But then Liz Truss's qualifications and experience
stand her in good stead as well. I'm leaning towards her
at present.

It will be interesting to see who gets the nod from the party
especially after the charismatic Boris.

We've got family in London - and it will be interesting to
learn what they think.

Is Mise,

Don't you?

That's surprising coming from a self-proclaimed
British government supporter.

So you're lying?

Interesting, hmmmmm.

It's going to get interesting as the two remaining
candidates in the battle to succeed Boris Johnson as
leader of the UK Conservative Party and Prime Minister
now begin to campaign around the country for the votes
of as many as 180,000 Tory Party members.

The results will be announced on September 5th, but many
will send in their postal ballots long before then.

Ex-Chancellor Rishi Sunak seems to be the more privileged
wealthier candidate - who could appeal more to the
party elite. Whereas Foreign Secretary Liz Truss appears
to be a darling of the party grassroots who's drawn
comparisons with Margaret Thatcher and just may become
the favourite to succeed Boris Johnson.

The next couple of weeks in their campaigns are worth
watching. Things could change in politics very quickly as
we know.

The UK Conservative Party whose members overwhelmingly
are - rich, old, white, and male will select the country's
next Prime Minister. Who do we realistically think they'll
select?

It's worth pondering - because more than anything Tory
activists want a winner.

Hi Foxy,

They'll select the rich guy, he's male but a little bit off colour. Glad to see the back of Bug Ridden Boris! As the British PM he lacked a decent haircut!

Hi Paul,

I think you're right.

Rishi Sunak will be their pick.

I suspect that Liz Truss is not the right fit for
them. But of course we may get a surprise as we
did with our own last election.

Either of them would be capable, both far more so than any of the left whingers from Labor or others.

shadowminister,

Labor and others aren't in this race.

It's the Conservative Party that's currently in power.
And this is an election for Boris Johnson's replacement.
So they're going to choose who they consider the most
appropriate candidate to be as PM.

Foxy,
I support the Queenn of Australia, Elizabeth II, who she has as PM in her British possessions is of no consequence to me.

PM?

Liz Truss will win, this should've been fairly obvious the moment she left the G7 early.
- She's the new Margaret Thatcher.

English politicians aren't quite ready for a 'brown face' them just yet.
(If you think I'm being racist there, I would point out that's what others are calling them)
http://metro.co.uk/2022/07/14/why-cheer-for-an-ethnic-minority-pm-who-will-only-entrench-inequality-17000146/
"Chances are – come September – we will have an ethnic minority Prime Minister. A Black or brown face in Number 10."

Liz was filmed riding around on a Ukrainian tank and egging the war on, she supports a continuation of the war, so there will be little change to foreign policy, not that there ever is.
Zelensky has lost patience with the West and is now open to compromise with Russia.
- But he won't be willing to accept Russian terms.
http://youtu.be/GqK1Nuak1A0

From what I can tell Zelensky's willing to go back to the terms of the Minsk agreements, in the hope Russia will accept because the war has cost them significantly.
But Russia won't accept the 'Minsk agreement' terms now, it's far too late for that.
They would want full sovereignty over Crimea (already Russian) as well as full sovereignty over the whole of Donbass, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions as well.

Russia said weeks ago, the more Ukraine and the West commits to the war and the longer range weapons they use against them, the more land they will be forced to take to make a buffer to protect their people in Donbass and Crimea.

Russia will take Donbass, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson - then they will be willing to negotiate, but if longer range weapons are used they may take more.
Ukraine has lost almost all its air power, no western country wants to give up their MIG-29's and Ukrainian Air Force arent trained to fly F15 and F16.

- But I'm fairly certain Liz Truss will win.

Why not ask Rupert Murdoch. I'm sure he has a preference.

One thing in favour of both Tory candidates, is they both have better hairstyles than Boris, although style was not an impediment for Bug Ridden Boris getting the top job, nor was being a clown. In Australia the total lack of hair, and looking like Mr Potato Head, will prove and insurmountable problem for one bloke, aka Constable Clod, no chance of getting the top job.

p/s Come to think of it, Boris had no style at all, so there is hope for Constable Clod after all.

HI rache,

You're right about Rupert Murdoch's influence.
"There is too much power in the media controlled
by one man who lives overseas."

"Media power prowls in the dark but its presence, its
threat, its strength isn't hidden. It's there to see
in fawning politicians and public officials."

Initially I thought Liz Truss was the far better candidate. After watching this week's episode of The Last Leg, I've changed my mind. She'd certainly be detrimental to the British economy. This does not imply that Sunac wouldn't.

Hi Aidan,

I'm still leaning towards Liz.
Sunak is very ambitious - so perhaps he
knows the right moves to persuade the
party members to give him their vote.

According to bloomberg.com - Liz Truss is leading the
race for no. 10.

Liz Truss seems to be the favourite to be the next Tory
leader on the betting market.

BTW: I watched an episode of the TV series -
"The Windsors," today. What a great spoof. The cast
is excellent - and I could kick myself for not watching
it sooner. A wonderful break from reality.
