However, issuing a contract for a Chinese-owned IT company (Global Switch) to store our Defence data (as well as ASIC and the ATO) was another stuff-up that is seldom mentioned and will now cost the taxpayer an additional $200million to migrate Defense files elsewhere over the next 5 years.
I find it hard to imagine that in 2022 we'll be fighting the Chinese hand-to-hand Infantry-style on our soil or theirs.
Politicians talking tough and making threats is no replacement for diplomacy. The story that JFK stared down the Soviets over the Cuban Missile Crisis is a media myth and the real action was happening behind closed doors by diplomats. As the Russians sailed away, the Americans immediately began disassembling their new Turkish missile bases that started the whole affair in the first place.
I'm guessing that if there was no election pending or any need to kow-tow to the USA, Morrison would be desperately trying to mend bridges.
