I too remember "the uglies" and their Nazi sympathiser branch-stacker Lyenko Urbancic how he ran the NSW Liberal Party. More recently they were controlled by a certain power broker from the NSW Branch who is a member of Opus Dei (as is the current NSW treasurer and various others) and was very influential on the Federal level.

It's no coincidence that when NSW took over control from Victoria during the Howard years so many Ministers (Ruddock, Abbott, Howard, Hockey, Bishop) came from adjoining seats on Sydney's North Shore. It's amazing that so little "talent" came from other States.

I'm also familiar with how people like Bill Heffernan used to run things from the shadows.

The party machinations have always been corrupt and manipulative. Look at how Morrison displaced Michael Towkie for preselection on his seat with the direct assistance of Rupert Murdoch.

How Morrison won his pre-selection over Towke with a bag of dirty tricks is well known. Morrison tries to present as the all Australian family guy, the daggy dad image, the happy clapper singing 'Com By Ya', but every now and then the "Ugly" Morrison comes out. In Morrison's office are those with the responsibility of gathering the dirt on the "despised ones" like journos who ask uncomfortable question, Brittany Higgins, some of his own mob etc, they call it "backgrounding".
