I remember when Alan Jones was ranting about the NBN and whined that optical fibre technology was out of date because they can now transmit some huge number of copies "The World Book Encyclopedia" in one second "over a laser beam" (which is what fibre is used for - something he obviously didn't know).

It doesn't matter what garbage these idiots spout as long as they sound convincing and there are a lot of weak-minded reactionary drones out there ready to lap it all up. They appeal to the conspiratorial and those who are prone to anger but in the end it's all about selling products.
It's almost like "You have a hole in your life about the size of this flat-screen TV" or "It's not your fault your life turned out this way, when there's always someone else to blame".
