To put some facts into the ring. https://www.health.gov.au/node/18777/australias-covid-19-vaccination-policy. The situation is not quite as stated. There would also be the "small matter" of the EU seizing our a big swag of our vaccines.

Hi Paul,
I have to confess that I am very nervous about this entire matter. Hopefully I shall change my mind as things progress. At the moment I won't be rushing to get a jab. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 1 April 2021 10:22:27 AM

GrahamY,
I know you're new to the group but if you want to post links you need to remove the 's' from 'https' for the software to recognise it as a URL. :) Posted by mhaze, Thursday, 1 April 2021 10:44:48 AM

Why is it that its always those who most clamour for more and bigger government who are the ones who whine the loudest when they find out that more and bigger government ALWAYS screw up.
This whole thing was being run by governments and more exactly their bloated bureaucracies. That it's not running like clock-work is hardly a surprise. Nothing run by these groups runs like clock-work or anything approaching that level of efficiency. Its axiomatic. All those that want the jab will get it - eventually. But the roll out will run at the speed of government. Posted by mhaze, Thursday, 1 April 2021 10:50:50 AM

"Why is it that its always those who most clamour for more and bigger government who are the ones who whine the loudest when they find out that more and bigger government ALWAYS screw up", from mhaze.
Oh, so telling. Love it! I'm having my first vaccination next Wednesday. I didn't seek it, but my doctor asked if I was OK with it during one of my necessary regular visits on other matters. Posted by ttbn, Thursday, 1 April 2021 11:20:10 AM

Hello mhaze,
You state that more and bigger government ALWAYS screws up. Where is your justification for this statement? Yes, I agree just throwing money and bureaucracy at a problem doesn't necessarily mean it gets fixed up. But it's totally untrue to say that bigger Government always screws up. I'd like to know where we would all be right now if the NSW State Gov't decided not to fund contact tracing because they are committed to smaller government. It's pretty easy to throw out outrageous statements without any supporting evidence. I'm a believer in facts, not unsupported opinions Cheers. Posted by Humanist21, Thursday, 1 April 2021 11:56:26 AM

I'm with you Foxy. I'll be only getting the "jab" if they find some way of forcing me too. Now it is no longer a dirty word, banned from society I might just go back to regular Hydroxychloroquine tablets, as I used in the islands, but no thanks to rushed developed black magic rubbish for me thanks.

"Where is your justification for this statement? "
Life experience and a knowledge of history. I'll agree that 'ALWAYS' was an exaggeration for effect. I'm told that government is extremely efficient at certain things. Public service pay rises are rarely delayed. Governments are very effective at sending out letters demanding monies be repaid - just not so good at later proving the monies are owed. Equally who can forget how good government was at the CovidSaf App rollout not to mention the exemplary Census online app. And of course big government is very good at generating reports proving government ought to be bigger again. " I'm a believer in facts, not unsupported opinions...." Oh good, so you must have lots of facts to prove your opinion that contract tracing was effective and couldn't have been done by anyone other than big government. I look forward to see those facts. But please note that just claiming that we had low CV19 deaths doesn't count as a fact in favour of government contact tracing unless you can prove, by facts, that the low counts wouldn't have occurred without government controlled contact tracing. Dear Hasbeen,
No Foxy just said she won't be rushing out to get it while you claim: " I'll be only getting the "jab" if they find some way of forcing me too." That makes you once again a freeloader. It will take about 4 out of every 5 of us to see any form of herd immunity for our community. I'm prepared to shoulder objectors like yourself but I won't put up with any pontificating from any of you. Posted by SteeleRedux, Thursday, 1 April 2021 7:22:15 PM

DHL driver can't find South Australia, last seen driving around the back blokes of WA somewhere near Broome. Remember a private enterprise company was given the task of delivering the vaccine, on day 2 they stuffed up!
I have worked for both government and private enterprise, and mhaze my life experience and a knowledge of history tells me, one is no better than the other. Both become large "bureaucratic" organisations by nature. I seen huge examples of waste in private companies, but that could be covered up due to the fact the company made lots of money and there were no mechanisms in place to track inefficiencies, such things were not questioned. Paul,
Fully agree - large anything is inefficient. So why are you surprised that large government is inefficient and why do you want more of it? I've also worked with large private companies and seen monumental inefficiency. Indeed, for a time my job included finding and fixing those issues. Finding was easy. Fixing in the face of bureaucratic inertia, all but impossible. But there's one big difference between inefficient private and inefficient public enterprises. The former tends to fail and decline until they are forced to drastic solutions. The latter tends to get bigger still until fixing the problem is essentially impossible. On a related note, on the vaccine roll-out. I don't currently qualify but my parents do. So last week I took each to get their shot. Father went to the local small GP clinic. The jab was delayed twice due to the government promising and not delivering the doses. But when they got them it was the simplest of processes. A phone call the day before, a precise appointment time, in and out in 30 minutes which included 15 minutes enforced wait to make sure there were no reactions. For medical reasons too complex to relate, Mother needed to be done at a large regional hospital. Delays in getting the doses were not communicated so we had two false starts. On the day we weren't given a time, just told to turn up. The process took 4 hours of what could only be called shambolic mayhem. The staff were as embarrassed and dismayed as you'd expect but had no idea how to resolve it. If you've ever seen an Emergency Dept in full swing with all its frantic lethargy, it was like that. But without the excuse of actual emergencies. Posted by mhaze, Friday, 2 April 2021 10:09:08 AM

Hi mhaze,
We all have different experiences, just yesterday I had day surgery at the Mater Hospital Brisbane to remove a bad wisdom tooth under general anaesthetic. No cost to those over 65 (don't need to be an Aged pensioner) if you are willing to wait, if you first attend at a 24 hour public hospital or government medical clinic in Queensland, which I had, they referred me to the public hospital. My appointment yesterday was at 11.30am, following paper work, by 12.00 I was suited up ready to go. Then in waiting area, consultation with the anaesthetist and the young doctors, team of 3, plus a theatre nurse all doing their job. All asked questions, asked if I had any questions. My doctor a young bloke about 30, said from x-ray ( I had 4 or 5 weeks ago), it looked a good simple op, about 15-20 min in total 30-40 in theatre, I said fine by me, give it a go. Went in at 1.30pm, about 8 people in the op theatre, knocked me out and did what they had to do, didn't feel a thing. Back to recovery, when I was okay nurse went over everything I needed to do and take for the next few days, called my wife to come and pick me up (because of Covid). Home by 7pm, all good so far, Bobs your uncle. I had the other side done about 10 years ago, back in Sydney, in a totally private establishment, cost me a packet with my out of pocket expenses and it was a stuff up from the start. My local dentist firstly made a botch, tried for 15 mins, couldn't remove the tooth, just cause pain at a price. Then the tooth doctor I was referred to, cause excessive pain and bleeding as well, I ended up at the public hospital one night getting treatment. It was an expensive shocker. I had exactly the opposite experience with Queensland public hospitals, except for the little one at Beaudesert. I was refereed for a knee replacement. For 3 years I kept getting letters from PA asking if I still wanted to see a specialist.
Finally I saw one who was not interested in me. My doctor called in some favors & got my case transferred to the Mater. A year later another specialist at Mater was not interested in me. My skin is now bruising easily. Another year later another specialist at Mater said he'd do it, & the day was set for next Thursday after final examinations. Then I get a barrage of emails wanting me at the mater every morning for a week including one the day after. The surgeon had obviously got cold feet. I knew where this was going, so bought my mobility scooter. Queensland health is not worth the time of day. Posted by Hasbeen, Friday, 2 April 2021 9:30:06 PM

Indy and Hassy,
This tooth job, was my first real experience with Queensland Public Health. From the time I seen the dentist at the local Government 24 hour Medical Centre to Thursday having the op all was fine. I was called in to the hospital about 5 weeks back for an examination/consultation and x-ray, then a series of phone calls, one 10 days back about cutting out some medication I'm on, then a follow up email, a letter, another phone call on Tuesday to see if I was right to go. All I can say is all went well. In Sydney, I had a lot of experience with the Public Hospital system, with both my father and mother before they died, myself with a heart attack 12 days in hospital, and my wife with firstly a nose procedure, then a breast operation. Every time I had a good experience with the medical staff, very professional in what they do, so I can't fault the public system. Years ago I ditched the private health insurance as a scam, and put my faith in "Medicare". from what I have read I think we have the best public health system in the World. Hassy, what you have said is a disgrace to the system. I know it always helps to know someone. My wife worked at Sydney Children's Hospital for years. With her nose she was getting around work with blocked up nose, using some kind of spray she got from the chemist. One of the baby doctors not a nose doctor, asked her what's wrong. come into my office I'll have a look. "You have very bad polyps in your nose, they need doing immediately, do you have private insurance?".. "No I don't"..."Give me your details and leave it with me" he said. Within a week "T" was called by a specialists, at the next door public hospital and the next day, he did her polyps at no charge. Posted by Paul1405, Saturday, 3 April 2021 6:47:08 AM

Well I'm glad someone has had good service Paul, but in the last 30 years mine has been almost all bad.
When I had my first heart attack I drove myself to Beaudesert hospital. The Asian doctor there had my clot dissolved & me out of trouble in about an hour. With my tinnitus & his thick accent, I couldn't understand a word he said, but the job was done, & quickly. They then shipped me off to Logan hospital where I sat in a cardiac ward for 3 days, with sticky things falling off my chest regularly, without seeing a doctor. I checked my self out & went home for a decent meal. 5 months later they had me do some stress tests, & another 4 months later I had an angioplasty at PA. 7 months later they finally put a stent in my 95% blocked artery. 16 months from my heart attack to getting a stent does seem a bit slow to help. It was only after my 3Rd heart attack that an Indian Lady cardiologist told me what my problem was & why it was happening that have been able to avoid having more for the last 10 years. From 18 April, you’ll be able to go to New Zealand without quarantining, but also without travel insurance to cover the costs of those snap Covid lockdowns for which Jacinda Ardern is notorious. Go if you dare.

Paul1405,
Another classic Soot stuff-up. I think there are more than a few LNP deviants itching to dump Soot and put Dutton in his place. Only thing stopping it from happening right now is that Soot made it compulsory to get 2/3 majority of the LNP MPs to oust the leader. Sort of like Putin making a law that he, the Pope and Xi will have jobs for life. Posted by Mr Opinion, Wednesday, 7 April 2021 4:26:24 PM

Dear Those Intending To Be None Covid Vaccinated Holdouts
Just remember the health of almost all the world population over the last 100+ years has been made vastly safer due to Mass Vaccinations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccination. There is always a very rare chance of side effects from every type of Vaccination OR Medication OR other medical treatment. I had my first AstraZeneca vacc last week and just got the common side effect of sore shoulder for 2 days where the vacc was injected. If you remain a None Covid Vaccinated Holdout you can't expect vaccinated Aussies and vaccinated foreigners to share domestic and international flights with you from some date in 2022. Also it is unlikely that Federal/State/Local and Foreign governments will permit None Covid Vaccinated Holdouts easy access on bus, tram, train, ship and again air travel from some date in 2022. ___________________________ See http://www.phrp.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/NB97025.pdf "Vaccination has been the most successful medical procedure ever introduced. It has saved more lives than any other intervention, and it has prevented more disability'. The risk of serious adverse reactions has remained extraordinarily low for all modern vaccines. The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccination_schedule#Australia following are the diseases with a very low mortality or mostly or completely eradicated in Australia ALL DUE TO VACCINATIONS: ________________________ PS. All levels of government may require None Covid Vaccinated Holdouts to expel their unvaccinated breath through a mask at public venues (indoors and out) from some date in 2022. Meanwhile the Vaccinated most likely won't be required to wear masks. Grateful corrections or other views. Posted by plantagenet, Thursday, 8 April 2021 9:38:14 AM

Vaccine Rollout Completion Timing EVEN MORE DELAYED AND CONFUSING
reported 7am Friday 9th April 2021 http://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-04-09/national-cabinet-to-discuss-vaccine-rollout-clot-concerns/100056868 Title "Vaccine supply gap on National Cabinet agenda after use of AstraZeneca limited in Australians UNDER 50" [Most important paragraph seems to be] "...Australian health authorities are NOW recommending adults under 50 receive the PFIZER vaccine [NOT THE] AstraZeneca [Vaccine], except where the benefit clearly outweighs the risk. The federal government's expert vaccine taskforce met for several hours on Thursday [8 April] to consider the AstraZeneca vaccine after the European Union's medical regulator listed blood clots as a very rare side effect. The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) also said that people [UNDER 50?] who have already had their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine without any serious adverse events can safely be given their second dose. The advice will significantly affect the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and poses a problem for the federal government, which has only secured 20 million doses of Pfizer's vaccine, which cannot be manufactured in Australia...." Soot knew what he was doing when he jumped in at the head of the queue to get a Pfizer jab instead of an Astrazeneca jab.
I think he had a bit of inside information. There's a new byword for 'Stuff-up': 'Soot-up'. Posted by Mr Opinion, Friday, 9 April 2021 9:10:04 AM

After twelve months of riding on the coat tails of popularity created by the states with their pandemic control, the Morrison government has been asked to step up to the plate and manage the vaccine roll-out. Its clear, and there is no way Morrison can palm his governments responsibly onto the states. We've been subjected to several weeks of a lying that the roll-out was on schedule when clearly it was not. Four million vaccinations promised by the end of March, less than a million delivered. Now despite the concerns in Europe and elsewhere about the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine and Australia's billion dollar investment in domestic production Scotty from Marketing was forced into a humiliating back down last evening and now the government is searching frantically for an alternative. No way can ScumO' blame this stuff up on the states.

Ex PM and continuing idiot, Kevin Rudd, would be pleased with this beat up. He has whined about News Corp's failure to join the now boring scaremongering about the unavailability of vaccines. There's no doubt about the Left - current and desperately trying to be noticed again - they all love a good scare campaign.

The vaccination of the population is a federal responsibility, with the states offering to assist. Like with their responsibility in other areas, aged care and hotel quarantine the Morrison government has abrogated its responabilities to the states, then blamed the (Labor) states when things have gone wrong. Will we see more of this unwarranted blaming of the states as the Morrison government cocks up the vaccination rollout, and fails their promised "everyone vaccinated by October" undertaking. Scotty from marketing can't get away with his usual spin, his use of smoke and mirrors wont hold up, only jabs in arms will count.
