Beware A Cashless Society

An email I received:

A cashless society means no cash. Zero.

It doesn't mean mostly cashless and you can still use a 'wee bit of cash here & there'.

Cashless means fully digital, fully traceable, fully controlled.

I think those who support a cashless society aren't fully aware of what they are asking for.

A cashless society means:
* No more tuck-away cash for those preparing to leave domestic violence.
* No more purchases off marketplace unless you want to risk bank transfer fraud.
* No more garage sales.
* No more cash donations to hungry homeless you pass.
* No more cash slipped into the hands of a child from their grandparent.
* No more money in birthday cards.
* No more piggy banks or tooth fairy for your child.
* No more selling bits & pieces from your home that you no longer want/need for a bit of cash in return.
* Less choices of where you purchase based on affordability.

What a cashless society does guarantee:

* Banks have full control of every single cent you own.
* Every transaction you make is recorded.
* All your movements & actions are traceable.
* Access to your money can be blocked at the click of a button when/if banks need 'clarification' from you which could take weeks, a hundred questions answered & five hundred passwords.
* If your transactions are deemed in any way questionable, by those who create the questions, your money will be frozen.

For the small expenses cash is always an advantage.

It also teaches children to save and be frugal.

I do not believe in online banking.

Too many scammers and fraud.

If you loose twenty dollars that is only twenty dollars.

If you lose your credit card you can lose all of your savings.

I don't like doing everything via computers.
Call me old-fashioned but I prefer the old method
of just going into the bank and paying my bills
the old fashioned way, not online.

I agree with no internet banking.

I do some purchases via the net, using only PayPal. If a company doesn't offer pay pal, I don't do business.

I have a special A/C with a different bank for my payments to PayPal, with not much in it for safety sake.

If they do force cashless, I suggest a tin of shiny stuff deep in the back yard.

I pay accounts by Billpay, whereby money goes straight from my account to creditors. Limited purchases, Australia only, with a card having a low balance, not my main account. Never had a problem. But, no foreign dealings. Always get cash out for housekeeping and doling out for birthdays and Xmas.

A cashless society would allow governments too much control. Their last edict that all transactions over $10k have to be reported because of criminal activity was not believed by anyone. When Morrison was treasurer, he squeezed out and impoverished many part Age Pensioners who had saved a few bob to improve their standing of living a bit. Never for one minute think that Morrison is the battlers' friend.

I have to confess I did use the credit card for
car repairs recently. The cost was more than
I had planned for. But that does not happen very
often. Cash is still the preferred method of
paying.

Never had a credit card in my life, only Eftpos. I give myself my allowance once a month, both cash & for net purchases in the "other A/C", & that's it. If I ran out I would stop spending, hasn't happened yet, but I keep a tight rein until the last week. I usually eat very well that last week, but it has been baked beans a couple of times.

Fortunately with a number of cars, I can leave any repairs on one, until I get round to it.

ttbn be careful of that card with low balance if it is with the same bank as your other accounts.

I opened a separate a/c with my main bank for just that purpose. I used phone banking to check the balance of my main A/C, then asked for a balance on my other A/Cs. the computer ran through all my A/Cs, including the separate one.

Smelling a rat the next day I phoned but after a balance of my separate A/C, than asked for my other A/Cs. The computer gave me the lot.

I then contacted the bank wanting to know why the separate A/C was linked. They told me they couldn't unlink them. If someone had got my internet use A/C they had the lot. That's when I started an A/C at another bank.

Hasbeen,

The card I use for limited online purchases is prepaid: nothing to do with my actual bank account. I spend only my own money. Don't owe anything to anyone. Credit cards are bad news. This new pay-later thing or what ever it is called is sheer stupidity. Very old fashioned I am. Never buy a thing unless I have the money to pay for it up front.

Incidentally: I recently went to switch to a Google keyboard from Google Play store, to be told that the keyboard "could" record data, including credit card numbers and passwords! Amazing. Frightening.

Hey ttbn,
I have no problems being able to do things via the internet.
It's just that I don't want to rely on apps etc.
I like holding the money in my hand, and I don't make too many purchases via EFTPOS.
I do make a lot of online purchases though, it's just cheaper to buy things that way and have them delivered.
- And I also use Afterpay, as they offer discounts to use it.

"* Banks have full control of every single cent you own."

- No, they don't, they don't have control over bitcoin and cryptocurrency.
I could for example own a lot of bitcoin and cryptocurrency, and I could buy many things with it directly without banks and have it all delivered.

- But if I want cash for example, I've got to sell the bitcoin or cryptocurrency and then send it back to a bank account, and that's where you might run into problems, if your account is blocked.

A cashless society would only force me to have my normal currency in a digital form, but it wouldn't necessarily stop me from owning bitcoin or cryptocurrency neither would it necessarily stop me from trading or mining it.

Decentralized finance
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decentralized_finance

Decentralized finance (commonly referred to as DeFi) is a blockchain-based form of finance that does not rely on central financial intermediaries such as brokerages, exchanges, or banks to offer traditional financial instruments, and instead utilizes smart contracts on blockchains, the most common being Ethereum. DeFi platforms allow people to lend or borrow funds from others, speculate on price movements on a range of assets using derivatives, trade cryptocurrencies, insure against risks, and earn interest in savings-like accounts. Some DeFi applications promote high interest rates but are subject to high risk. By October 2020, over $11 billion (worth in cryptocurrency) was deposited in various decentralized finance protocols, which represented more than a tenfold growth during the course of 2020. As of January 2021, approximately $20.5 billion was invested in DeFi.

I've got 4 computers, 18 monitors and 2 tablets in my loungeroom.
- And crypto paid for all of it, and then some.
I haven't been paying attention to trading for 3 weeks since I sold a few coins too early and they went up heaps which annoyed me,
- But my portfolio of coins I have left still went up another 20% in the meantime even though a large chunk of my money is just sitting in USD stablecoins (no price change) for the coins I sold.

My computers are 4 x Dell Optiplex 9020 SFF,
- each of them i7 4770 with 32gb RAM

3 computers each have 4 x 24" Dell monitors and a 1GB Video Card,
- 4 x 24" monitors on a quad monitor stand.

1 computer has 6 x 27' monitors and a 4GB Video card.
- 4 x 27" curved monitors on a quad monitor stand
- and 2 x 27" monitors each side in portrait view.

2 of the computers i.e. 8 monitors
- Each have 4 charts displayed on them for a total of 32 different altcoins I can watch.
I can click on any of these 32 charts to go fullscreen anytime

The third computer with 4 monitors displays
1 The price of Bitcoin on a 1 minute chart,
2 The price of Ethereum on a 1 minute chart and Bitcoin Dominance, an index
3. Bitcoin 5 and 15 minute charts
4. Bitcoin 1 hour and 4 hour charts

My main computer has:

My portfolio of ALL coins in all different exchanges displayed on left in portrait mode
Cryptocurrency prices shown on the right in portrait mode

In the centre curved monitors:
One is my trading screen
The second is for watching youtube videos and browsing
- The other 2 monitors are for watching the coins that I'm actively trading on any given day.

I also have the 2 tablets, one of which is needed for 2 factor authentification.
I have many passwords but they're kept in a digital vault with a master password.
The setup cost $6500 to build.

Well, my cars a 2012 Hyundai i30 turbo diesel.
It cost me $47 to drive from Brisbane to Sydney last year.
I don't know what the emissions are, but I know I'm probably using 3 times less fuel than anyone that owns a 6cyl petrol or large 4WD.

The computers aren't power hungry, they've only got 250w power supplys being small form factor units.
Here's what they look like.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/203239632059

I'm pretty sure the 24" monitors only use 14 watts a piece and I've tuned down the brightness to 40%,
- Both for my eyes and to reduce power consumption.
But power probably still totals around 1400 watts maybe when they're all on.
- But I don't always have them all turned on if I'm not actively trading.

If I were to make a decent amount of money and owned my own place I'd buy a second-hand solar system and get one of the rellies to hook it up.
They're not expensive anymore.

Here's a 5kw system with a German-made SMA inverter and isolators for $500.
http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/springwood/building-materials/5kw-solar-system-500/1270881125

I'd gladly set up a solar system and a few wind turbines if I easily could but I'm renting.
Financially it's kind-of a no-brainer.

I do have a rather large 500L Fisher and Paykel fridge.
I've had a good run with it, bought it in 2004 or 2005.
The freezer seals are a bit old and it freezes up from time to time.
I've been thinking about replacing it, but it's still got some life left in it.

I've also got an old Fisher and Paykel washer as well.
I'm planning to give it to a friend to generate power, I watched this interesting video on how to do it.

Free power- How to convert an old washing machine into a water powered generator

Armchair Critic,
We all know emission from running these things is getting pretty good nowadays, what most don't know or rather don't want to think about is the footprint from the manufacture of all these commodities !
Every single item you mentioned is made from Petroleum/Oil.
If we only produced & utilised what we need then the wouldn't be any very little pollution.
The real problem is that we cause hugely massive pollution to satisfy our egos, greed, lust for pleasure & general instant gratification & that's what's causing the irreversible damage to the environment.
There simply are just too many people for the environment to handle. Those who believe COVID-19 is a worry, just wait for COVID-20-25 in OUR lifetime.
Global travel is already a thing of the past.
Want to put a stop to all this ? Support birth control & withdraw foreign aid to those who won't stop breeding like rabbits ! Also support reducing high level Public Service salaries !

Hey individual,
I know that by the sounds of 4 computers 18 monitors and 2 tablets
- This probably seems somewhat excessive to most average people.

I can tell you that I do try to get good usage out of what I buy, and I don't really have a whole lot of waste compared to many others, whether you believe me or not.

These upgraded computers should last me a few years, (even though the boxes themselves were built by Dell in 2014) and I'll find good homes for them if and when I decide to upgrade my system further, but it won't be in the foreseeable future.

Armchair Critic,
It's not as excessive as computers being deliberately made out-dated every year & being replaced when there's no need other than manufacturers pushing for more business.
Where the excesses come into play is when petroleum-hungry commodities are being persued by excessive frivolous want by excessively selfish people !
People who use these commodities are the most vocal when it comes to blame manufacturers for global warming !
They also blame farming for polluting our waterways yet bleat lack of variety of food in supermarkets. They denounce the burning of coal yet scream poor service when the power goes off on rare occasions.
The average snowflakes & their parents really are very, very stupid people who are forced to vote yet jeopardise the future of the Nation at every turn !
They're Labor's back bone !
