SM,

Andrews kills three people ?! And Trumpf can manage only a thousand or so each day (on the same logic of responsibilities) ? What a wimp !

But wait ! In a couple of weeks, it will be two thousand a day in the US. In a month, maybe three thousand. A new 9/11 every day ! Thank you, Pussy Man !

And why ? Because Trumpf doesn't want to either test or trace (because that way, you only boost the numbers unnecessarily) or provide enough health facilities, let it rip, he'll be okay down in his bunker.

Aren't hospitals a state affair even in the US? If so then what has Trump got to do with it. Compounded with the fact that state governor's aren't addressing the civil disturbance caused by BLM within the states.

Come of it, CM,

Trumpf has as much power in the US as Morrison does here, to pull together the governors (premiers) and nut out a common set of policies.

After all wasn't Trumpf claiming to have total power just a few weeks ago, when it suited him ? Wasn't he going to send out the Army and National Guard ?

Why I don't know, but he does remind me of General Dreedle in Catch-22 (played by Orson Welles in the film) when he was told that he couldn't have Richard Benjamin shot for groaning. You sort of expect him to demand, "What ?! I've got total power and I can't have someone shot if I want to ?!"

Then again:

Well, he's your boy, you're stuck with him until November :)

Hi Joe,

Read an interesting article this morning, it detailed how since early April Trump's inner circle of Covid-19 response advisers have mostly been sycophantic in their delivery. These people have tried to anticipate the Trump view, and have mostly tried to accommodate the ever erratic Trump. There have been notable exceptions Dr Fauci, a man of trusted expert opinion for one. Dr Fauci has tried to deliver sound medical advice, despite Trump. This unbiased advice has seen Dr Fauci sidelined to a great degree, but still he is trying his best to get the message out there for the sake of the American people . Hitler had his untouchable Hindenburg, and Trump has his Fauci. Anyone one else would have been sacked weeks ago as a total incompetent fool by Trump.

Paul,

Well, we live in interesting times, in the traditional Chinese sense. I think Trumpf would love to have Fauci flayed alive and his head and skin hung on the White House gates (with his children sold into prostitution, perhaps in one of the Trumpf brothels, like in the good old days of his grandfather). But legislation to allow that hasn't been passed by the Republican-controlled Senate yet.

Policies in the US in relation to the Covid-19 virus (I was going to write 'policies against the virus' but that wouldn't be accurate) seem to be to let it rip-
, 'we're all sick and tired of doing the right thing, and anyway what if it's all a hoax' ? And anyway, more people die each year from the flu. And anyway, if you close your eyes, you can't see it. There are no bears in the woods. If you run off a cliff, as long as you don't look down, ....

But what if it's actually real ? A thousand Americans dying each day now, two thousand in a couple of weeks, three or four thousand a couple of weeks later. Half a million deaths by early November.

Hindsight is a wonderful teacher, I know, but it does seem that an early and very, very hard lock-down for a month or six weeks, would have been a fairly effective way to limit the damage from this virus until a vaccine could be found and produced in enough quantities for all of the world, not just for the US.

Morrison here in Australia was on the right track - except (and for the life of me, I can't understand why) international travel was still allowed (and probably still is: how stupid can you get ?).

Long way home yet. Chin up :)

LM2,

Considering that the rest of Aus is not killing anyone Bubonic Dan is setting new records here. If you want a random comparison I can go to WW2 with Hitler killing many 1000s dying a day. Moron.

However, the comparison between Dan Andrews and Trump is beginning to get stronger.
