I once thought of argument and reason adversarially. I now think of them as valuable tools for understanding ideas and values, especially my own. Without the ability to reason you are at risk of acting irrationally: Buying toilet paper to mitigate the risk of coronavirus is an example.

Yes, the gender is decided before we are born, but there is still one thing that we can choose to do: if you dislike the gender of a given body, then simply don't get born into it. Perhaps someone else will take that body instead, but as far as you are concerned, you stay in heaven or wherever you happen to be until a more suitable body comes along with the gender of your choice.

Indeed, reason is invaluable.

It is unwise to go out unnecessarily to shop for toilet paper when many around are infected. This virus is uniquely nasty, not because it kills people but because it leaves many crippled and short-breathed for the rest of their lives.

The toilet paper con has to go down as the biggest laugh we've had for a long time - and I'm not talking about the videos showing people wrapped in the stuff to protect themselves from the virus.

People hoarding toilet paper are not ranked among our great thinkers. They are the idiots who we need every now a again to remind us how gullible - and therefore dangerous - the average plonker is.
