Yes, drug-smuggling has always been with us. Before Federation, each colony had border controls and customs duties on goods being transferred between colonies. Drug smuggling was a real problem on the Murray River, because the paddleboats were transporting cargo between South Australia, NSW and Victoria, and there was plenty of isolated riverbank to offload illicit cargo. There were customs houses and bond stores at most river towns (some buildings still stand) and the police were active. No need to blame it on foreigners, unless of course you regard as foreigners all those English, Irish and Scottish foreigners who came to Australia before Federation. Here's one retrospective account (Murray Pioneer and Australian River Record 11.10. 1934).

Opium, Liquor, Tobacco and General Merchandice
Customs Officials Foiled

There is living near Renmark an old woman whose husband, dead these five years, was a River Murray smuggler. In the old woman's home is evidence of this in the form of letters and papers dating back to the seventy flood (1870) and before. Mr. Fred Stockel now owns the Border Cliff farm up river from Renmark. This farm house was for years the customs station between South Australia and New South Wales, and in the late eighties all manner of goods were discovered within a few miles of the customs house.

The following is a rough list of what was unearthed near the farm house in the eighties; twenty-five cases of black stick tobacco, 25 cases of whiskey, and 10 of gin, sundries including some opium, and general merchandise. With the arrival of customs officials every steamer plying along the Murray had perforce to stop at the customs house. They were searched for dutiable goods and then let proceed.

ALTRAV, I am a bit confused by your posts.

On the one hand you don't like the lefties, a bunch of losers bludging off the system, who would be more than happy to see you lose your cash and join them in the dole queue.

On the other hand, you don't like the rich, especially the elite Jews, who control the global financial system and own all the banks.

Which group are you planning to join? The lazy bludging lefties or the financially astute bank owners? My advice: Buy some bank shares while they're going cheap!! Then you can have a conspiracy theory about yourself!

Cossomby, glad you ask.
I favour neither camp, but despise the Bilderberg Group beyond any imagination.
You see, the left have a belief that they are owed a living, and should be overpaid for under-performing or even not work at all.
I was once abused by such a cretin, in saying that if I did not want the thing he was doing, he didn't have to work, and basically berated me for forcing him to work.
Now on the other end of the spectrum, we have a much more evil kind of people with a very selfish and greedy over the top agenda.
They want to rule the world!
I have followed these mongrels for some years and have gathered the odd bit of info or video outlining and confirming they are dangerous.
They have been responsible for the loss of millions of lives, all for their personal and financial gain.
I do not lean one way or another but when someone is bad or who's actions hurt or compromise people financially or emotionally, then I cannot simply stand by and do or say nothing.
We are being slowly taken over by these mongrels, and one the early signs is the Bail-In Bill, the other is the Cash Ban Bill.
All of these measures and laws are designed to force us to become submissive to this mongrel group and in doing so remove our freedoms and our ability to self rule.
So I hate them both, but for different reasons.
One thing is certain, they are both a threat to us, but at least one should be exterminated.

Speaking of our cash. ASX CRASHES TODAY [9 March 2020]

below 6,000 in worst opening since GFC.

The Australian share market has lost more than $100 billion in today's trade so far, amid the economic fallout from the coronavirus and an oil price war.

It has been the worst day of trade since November 2008, when the global financial crisis took hold, and the rout is hammering share portfolios and superannuation balances.

The ASX 200 index has lost 6 per cent...."
