Years ago the CFMEU a miners and City construction union took over timber workers pipe makers [clay] and branched out in to country Australia
Hunting membership
TheY used strong arm tactics on bosses and promised big pay rises for construction workers
At about this time the AWU had gone in to an amalgamation , it was rocky and nearly failed
Bill Shorten old school AWU, like myself, held us together
Federal industrial relations court heard a challenge from the CFMEU trying to take AWU coverage
I was a key witness, we won, still a delegate then that union, unseen for ten years, had one member in an area of 350 klm, my union had near thirty,EX cfmeu, each had asked me could they join us[over 300 members]
We took them
Soon civil construction workers gained 5 8 and even more percent for each of three year terms [enterprise agreements last three year mostly]
BUT warnings workers priced themselves out of a job, went unheard
TODAY few, very few, full time jobs are held, high wages forced by militants, introduced casual workers on much lower pay out numbering the few full timers
thank you CFMEU

Dear Belly,

I respect your knowledge of unions.
And your opinion of what's currently going on
with the CFMEU. You have lived experience.

Ignore the rantings of those who merely stalk
this forum with their "drive-by" comments.
Not worth getting upset about or giving them
a platform.

I see no point in arguing with them. They do
a fine job of proving their complete ignorance
on their own.

You could try explaining things to them but you
can't understand it for them. So what's the point?

My thanks Foxy, as always a bright light in a dark place
It is worth noting many here are totally against the Union and Labor movements
But two understand very little about both
Had this thread been one protecting this man, or his union, the pure bile would have flowed
Hearing the truth, from a committed and understanding person is confronting
See they post a blindness that is unrelated to the truth
I could tell of time after time, abuse of women not yet told here
Many a young lady , first stop on the way into the bosses office, has been subjected to pure low filth, from men who should know better
Labor, stalled by fear of self harm, has wanted for many years, to stop the thugs and mugs damaging us
Watch, see, the CFMEU will get closer to and increase its funding to the Greens
Labor? we will bring the future great Government about by looking to the future not the mid 1960,s

Foxy,

I don't disagree with what Belly is saying. The poor/criminal behaviour of the CFMEU and a few other unions is essentially the main reason why the TURC was put in place and probably the reason that union numbers have fallen to an all time low.

That Labor and the Greens get $ms in tax free donations from these criminal organisations is why both parties provide protection to the likes of Setka, run interference and put in place legislation that gives the unions exclusive rights to represent millions of people the vast majority of whom are not union members and many of whom want nothing to do with the unions.

It is time that the government deregistered the CFMEU.

"Rosie Batty’s campaign is part of the folk law of the lunatic left. Its propaganda, so well received, is that domestic violence is principally that by men against women. Unfortunately, like most myth’s it is built on a half-truth, perhaps a truth even smaller than that. Batty’s campaign is based upon her own, tragic personal experience, which just happens to fit the lunatic left’s injustice manual". (David Long, 'What About John Setka's Freedom of Speech', The Spectator)
