His union experience disproves that, though of course his enemies completely forgot about that once they realised there was no evidence of criminality!

Rising wages encourage businesses to invest in the equipment to make their workers more productive. And though, all other things being equal, higher wage costs are bad for business, we must keep in mind that all other things are not equal. For example the negative impact of higher wages could be balanced out by the positive impact of lower interest rates.
