A “Mr.Stride” and his Russian wife came from Britain to seek asylum from Russian in Australia! Come of it!
His application was rejected in 2012. Since then, his application has been rejected by “successive immigration ministers”, and the bugger is still here whining and costing us money. A more unworthy and ridiculous claim for asylum - on a par with other people who head for Australia from a place where they could have had asylum (if Stride's name is anything to go by he is probably a Pom anyway) - could not be imagined. SteeleRedux Quote "even though the tribunal accepted the danger he and his wife fear “is real”."
You mean the same tribunal that kept Australia from deporting a refugee for 7 years. HOW PAEDOPHILE REFUGEE THOMAS GBOJUEH AVOIDED DEPORTATION FOR SEVEN YEARS November 2006 - Thomas Scott Gbojueh enters Australia on a refugee visa. Less than four months later he commits the first two child sex offences against a 12-year-old girl. November 2008 - Gbojueh is convicted of rape and having sex with a person under the age of 14. He is sentenced to six-and-a-half years' jail. June 2009 - Gbojueh is acquitted of rape on appeal, but pleads guilty to having sex with the underage girl, who became pregnant and needed an abortion. He is jailed for 27 months. February 2011 - Then-immigration minister Chris Bowen cancelled Gbojueh's visa. Gbojueh is detained. April 2011 - Gbojueh is released after the Administrative Affairs Tribunal sets aside the decision and reinstates the visa. The AAT finds Gbojueh has a 'well-founded fear of persecution' in Liberia due to his ethnicity July 2011 - Mr Bowen again cancels Gbojueh's visa and he is placed in detention again. August 2011 - Gbojueh takes the matter to the Federal Court, seeking judicial review. March 2012 - The Federal Court orders Gbojueh's visa reinstated, and he is released from detention. January 2014 - Gbojueh's refugee visa is cancelled again, this time by minister Scott Morrison. February 2014 - The Liberian refugee again seeks judicial review. August 2014 - This time the Federal Court rules against Gbojueh. September 2014 - Gbojueh again seeks judicial review. March 2015 - The Full Federal Court rules in favour of Mr Morrison. May 2016 - Gbojueh lodges an application for a protection visa. August 2016 - The protection visa application is refused, but Gbojueh appeals with the AAT. April 2017 - The AAT upholds the decision to refuse Gbojueh's protection visa application. July 2018 - Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton order Gborjueh deported back to Liberia. Con't
Paedophile African refugee who had sex with a 12-year-old girl and got her pregnant was allowed to stay in Australia for SEVEN YEARS - before being deported back to Africa A paedophile refugee was allowed to stay in Australia for seven years after having his visa cancelled for having sex with a 12-year-old girl. Thomas Scott Gbojueh, 50, who left the girl pregnant and in need of an abortion, was deported back to his native Liberia last week by Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton. Gbojueh pleaded guilty to twice having sex with the underage girl, once less than four months after arriving in Australia in 2006, but was able to remain in the country. The 12-year-old was the daughter of a woman Gbojueh was in a relationship with at the time, and later terminated the pregnancy. A series of appeals lodged with the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Federal Court saw his visa reinstated several times since it was first cancelled in 2011. Mr Dutton slammed the AAT, and said judicial system needs to be more consistent in deporting criminals with cancelled visas in a 'timely manner'. 'I think we need to have a reflection of community standards. 'We need to listen to the public because people aren't happy with a system where people escape the consequences of their criminal actions.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5944495/Paedophile-refugee-sex-12-year-old-girl-allowed-stay-Australia-SEVEN-YEARS.html Posted by Philip S, Friday, 18 January 2019 1:26:19 PM

Conservative Governments have been kowtowing to the US when it comes to foreign policy since WWII. That is evident by the way Australia has been dragged into the many wars at the direction of US militarism.
The orders for the deportation of these Russians whistle blowers would have come from Washington, as the Trump administration is well known as being very friendly to the Moscow regime of Vladimir Putin. Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 18 January 2019 3:51:01 PM

Dear Paul1405,
Yes that is what it smacks of unfortunately which is a real shame because we use to be better than that. Small correction from me, it is his wife who faces deportation to Russia which is part of the reason why he came to Australia. He will likely be sent back to England as he is a British national. Remember us standing up to Russian thuggery when Petrov's wife had to be rescued from the plane in Darwin? We aren't the country we were that is for sure. Dear Philip S, Why have you brought up the issue of someone having their visa cancelled because they committed a crime? There is no indication either he or his wife have engaged in anything criminal here. I fully agree the Baptist Mr Gbojueh should have been sent on his way and would have done if subsequent Ministers hadn't stuffed things up. This all needs to be done by the law and without the political rhetoric that oftenjeopardises these cases nowadays. But still it is a total red herring. Belly,
You said, "... after our filthy police informed on him". Police is a collective noun and means all police, the adjective 'filthy' as you applied it, therefore, refers to all police. Now be a good chap and unreservedly apologise. Posted by Is Mise, Friday, 18 January 2019 4:35:07 PM

BELLY as long as I've known you, I've always attempted to treat you with respect. For your information - I was a police officer for more than 32 years. I'm not sure what you mean with 'worked with the police.' I can't be any plainer than that - I apprised you of my vocation, the first time we made a connection on The Forum! Moreover, I tried to support you, when another individual drove you from here before you took an extended break as well Belly!
I don't understand precisely what it is you're trying to say about Roger ROGERSON. It's my understanding he's in the geriatric section of the Long Bay Gaol, Hospital. Once a brilliant detective, that went wrong. ROGERSON will no doubt die in custody. Yes, like all similar organisations there're a few bad apples in them. And the police force is no exception, Not unlike the men who worked on the road gangs for DMR back in the day. Theft of DMR property was endemic. With respect, you infer something to the effect; my mind is drifting (or something) with old age. Indeed it is, that's why I no longer participate on The Forum or OLO as regularly as I once did. Look BELLY; I don't quite understand what you mean with many of the things you say now? If I can be as sensitive and gentle as possible with you BELLY. In future, you might care to examine your syntax, your spelling, and punctuation. Much of what you write in your statements and remarks, is frankly, quite garbled and confusing for me. I'm uncertain of others herein? But as many have inferred over time, I'm not the sharpest knife in the draw. Posted by o sung wu, Friday, 18 January 2019 5:50:10 PM

SteeleRedux Why are you posting this rubbish, you fail to give the reason the Government are using to deport him?
Are we supposed to take your word for it he is a saint. ** Funny how I used some of the words you usually direct at me. ** Quote "Why have you brought up the issue of someone having their visa cancelled because they committed a crime? There is no indication either he or his wife have engaged in anything criminal here." ** Could it have something to do with the first 5 words "You mean the same tribunal that kept Australia from deporting a refugee for 7 years." o sung wu,
I agree with you about Belly's posts being garbled. I used to have some very good debates with Belly until his extended 'break', however since his return most of his posts do not make sense. I was quite surprised by his comments regarding yourself as I do not think they are shared by any others. I believe that your words and attitude have earned the respect of all other posters, and I have been around here longer than most. You are the most courteous and considerate of all. All the best old feller, it has been a pleasure to relate to you. Posted by HenryL, Saturday, 19 January 2019 9:09:25 AM

Hi there PHILIP S, & HENRYL...
I've always tried to maintain a courteous and friendly 'On Line' relationship with Belly. Apparently, I've failed. It is true; I've attacked others herein, whenever they've denigrated or insulted the police force, with all their imperfections and defects, and Australia's commitment to the Vietnam War, with all the wrongs and immorality that occurred during the prosecution of that war. My reasons are quite simple - I've lost close mates and colleagues in both the military and the police. And my own sense of worth will not allow me to stand idly by, and not offer some retort in their defence. I think in BELLY'S case he has a natural dislike for police per se. And as a former DMR road worker, he's been taught to dislike even despise them, whenever he was fraternizing among his work colleagues. In truth, I can't know for sure gentlemen? One thing seems apparent to me with BELLY; he's a devoted Labour supporter. Therefore many of his political views and opinions materialize from his ideological 'Left.' Whereas, I'm further to the Right than Genghis Kahn. BELLY'S such a complex, albeit honorable in his way character; perhaps I'm doing him a disservice. Thank you both for your support. It's nice to know, I've got some 'good thinker's' auditing whatever I say on this august Forum! Posted by o sung wu, Saturday, 19 January 2019 11:09:04 AM

Alan Bell, aka, Belly, has an ex-policeman as his state MP. National Party, what's more. Could explain things?

Hi there TTBN...
My friend that may well explain things a little clearer for most of us, as he does seem to have issues with police, as did I and nearly all coppers in the first couple of years of our service. Situations like nepotism, tribalism, the 'vertical' smile, you name it, the Force has it all, and then some. All of which are impediments that don't favour harmonious interaction between different staff levels. Not all that dissimilar to other large, disciplined institutions, where your every move is scrutinized and audited in case you go, rogue. TTBN, there's an old saying...'Whenever there's trouble, the 'first' person you want to see is a copper. And they'd be the 'last' person you'd ever wish to share company with, and partake in a drink. I'm not sure what the reason is that our government is
willing to deport this family. Possibly it could be that they don't have the proper paperwork. I'll have to do a bit more research. However, surely the government should consider this family's human rights and our obligations to help people who would be in real danger if they were to be deported - over red-tape concerning paperwork. From the little that I have read - Nick Stride supplying corruption evidence against Igor Shuvalov - one of the most powerful and wealthiest men in Russia and a personal friend of Putin - is a dangerous thing to have done and guarantees severed repercussions to Stride and his family. Hopefully the publicity this incident is attracting now worldwide- will help our government to re-consider their decision concerning this family. A precedent was already set by the late Sir Robert Menzies then PM - with the Petrov Affair - way back when being anti-communist counted for much more - as my parents would testify, were they still alive. He had been the source for this Foreign Policy story about the Russian Deputy PM.

Our government's hardline stance on asylum seekers has become absolutely shameful and absurd.
Are we that beholden to foreign interests that we can no longer give sanctuary to people like this?
