Amused by the view anyone left of Trump is a lefty thought we could look at what the world would look like if only one side governed us. say no Left, or those parties branded left existed, here in America and great Britain the right ruled forever? no balance no roadblocks to introducing and passing whatever they wished?

I thought we could look at how this country and say America would look if one party, not a dictatorship, governed us any of the existing parties, we will see our biases come out but in truth in my view such a world, no opersition no stalling bills, would not best serve us all, balance in my view comes via a two or more party system

Dear Belly,

For all its faults and inadequacies we have yet to invent
a more equitable or more accountable system of government
than what we currently have.

Our political system affects our life and our country
because it has a direct impact on our lives. It affects
the kind of schooling we and our families get, it affects
what sort of health services we are able to access and so on.

If we only had one party ruling us (dictatorship?) -
then we would have issues when we wanted to challenge
the government.
When you have a society that does not have a voice - you
have an oppressed society.

Foxy that too is my opinion I wanted to consider what life would be without our current system, say Turnbull had both houses and no one to call him out, my list of altered probabilities follows, but it would be no better if any party had those conditions, no Royal commision into banks would have taken place, more coal fired power stations less renewables, cuts to wages and penalty rates would be unlimited, take any bill not passed by the upper house and know it would be law now.

Just a short bit from another site.

Members of Parliament, either state or federal, were given the title 'Honorable' for a reason - they may have been elected into office but they were not entitled to make a living from their parliamentary office - and were expected to keep their occupations because being a parliamentarian was not a full time role.

Our original federal government formed in 1901 had five ministries to it - 117 years later, it now has over 36 ministries and other lesser agencies, and everyone elected into, or parachuted into office, as was Bob Carr during the time of the Gillard government, are now considered to be a full time employee.

Every state replicates the federal government ministries, so in effect, we have seven federal sized governments that run this country - are we over governed?

The above left out local councils which add another layer of Government, the system is absolutely crazy and costing Australians Billions of dollars extra every years.

Hi Belly,

The saying use to be "anyone left of Genghis khan" was a lefty to some people. One bloke thought Ronald Reagan was a communists so he took a shot at him, its all in the eye of the beholder. The French have a lot to answers for with the fallacy of left and right, to me there is only extreme and moderate. We presently operate under a moderate regime, Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia were not so lucky, they operated under extreme regimes, which have rather unpleasant consequences, (refer to history).
The rise of extremism is no accident, it is the result of the radical behaviour within society. In other words piss off enough people and they will embrace the extreme. We have no serious political view in Australia which goes to that extent, other than the two percent of nutters, and they are not getting very far. The major political parties are moderate in aspect, and only concern themselves with, and only debate the emphasis of what should be applied to our accepted system of social equality. In other words neither of the governing political parties, or their acolytes, have any desire to turn the system on its head, which is a good thing (refer to history). Are we all democratic, I suppose so.
