Pyne Sought GetUp! Help for Turnbull.

“The Saturday Paper” of 28th October reveals that Christopher Pyne sort help for Malcolm Turnbull from the extreme Left organisation, GetUp! in the 2009 leadership spill, which Tony Abbot won by a single vote.

Pyne was concerned about conservative organisations contacting MPs to support Abbott, and rang then national director of GetUp!, Simon Sheik, offering a list of undecided MPs he wanted GetUp! to contact by 'phone or email. Sheik was interested, but declined to help Pyne out on grounds of lack of time.

At the time, if the public had known about Pyne's treachery to Abbott, shock that a Coalition politician would cosy up to an organisation such as the hard left enemy of conservatism and the Coalition would have prevailed. Now, of course, we all know what a sick, Left tragedy the Coalition has become, thanks to the likes of Pyne and his cronies.

Pyne is reported as not being very pleased that his action has been made public. Neither would voters in his leafy electorate of Sturt be impressed.

No submarines and no Pyne in SA after the next election?

getup's big sister the abc was the one who was largely responsible for Turnbull's election. Why should we be surprised. Just disappointing that good men like Morrison and Dutton allowed self interest to drive them.

Yes, runner, both Morrison and Dutton are huge disappointments, which shows that they are just interested in self-preservation. Dutton is down to a 1.7% electoral margin after Labor's little helper, GetUp! targeted him last election. Given the huge pension and perks he would get if he was kicked out, a decent man would dig his heels in and stay true to his conservative instincts - it might even get his vote back up. But no. He seems to have lost his nuts along with his hair.

Conservatives need to buck up, stop whingeing about the Left, and actually fight them using some of their own tactics. The Left is running rings around the Government, not because they are any good, but because the Government is so frightened and useless.

ttbn; Pyne wanted an organisation such as the hard left enemy of conservatism (GetUp) to cosy up to undecided MPs. This was in response to, and to counter, friendly conservative organisations contacting MPs to support Abbott.
Who might those friendly conservative organizations be? Hard right friends of conservatism, the opposite to the hard left enemies of conservatism, The National Front etc, then Abbott must be supported by the crazy hard right. True.

Am I reading you correctly.

Paul,

I don't know. But the Christian Lobby is a probable for one but, really, the only people who got to vote were Coalition MPs and they would be drys or wets, fairly evenly as it turned out. The inexcusable action is entirely Pyne's. A left of centre Coalition MP has no business going to an organisation like GetUp! It's up to his constituents to deal with him now that they know about it. Another piece of information is that he was miffed Sheik didn't regard him as anything other than a Liberal, and not a 'moderate' or small 'l' liberal as he thinks of himself.

ttbn, greetings my forum friend.

Obviously as a "lefty" myself I'm not going to warm all that much to Coalition politicians. But I do have respect for some of them for their honesty and commitment to what they believe in. Christopher Pyne is not one of those people, I think he's rather conceited and not someone you could put your trust in. Pyne reminds me of a petulant public school boy who is always scheming, playing both sides against the middle. In short, a grub.

What is your opinion of Bob (The Mad) Katter, my favorite crazy right wing politician. Good value is old Bob.
