I know nothing about subs., pump-jet or otherwise. If Australia must have a fleet of subs, only nuclear should be considered, anything else is redundant even before they're off the drawing board. Apropos Ms HANSON and her 'Admiral' counterpart - what make him the authority on Subs, any more so than Ms Hansen. Sure she's a little bereft in some areas of Naval warfare, but she does know plenty about sailors, scram... 'fish 'n chips'. Can this Admiral claim the same? Just how many sea-going Submarines does the gentleman command, and how many can he put to sea, in order to negate a potential attack?

I've had a lot to do with submarines (even been down in one!) and nuclear subs are noisy because, mainly, the nuclear reactor boils the water in the boilers for the noisy steam turbines.
The steam rushing through the pipework is a prime source of underwater noise.
