Sufficient time seems to have elapsed to conclude that everyone is in agreement that getting rid of this piece of stupid legislation is a good idea.
There have also been significant changes to the Firearms Act that were well overdue. Posted by Is Mise, Saturday, 27 May 2017 6:23:45 PM

Yeah Issy, there is so much interest in your thread, the only reply you got was from yourself. LOL. About as popular as that book of yours, what was its name, oh! yes 'Road Kill Recipes for the Failed Hunter' I particularly enjoyed the 'Shish Kabobed Squashed Raccoon' served with a tangy 'Rhinoceros Piss Sauce', 5 stars.

"Yeah Issy, there is so much interest in your thread, the only reply you got was from yourself"
Wrong, Paul, there are three replies; the last one from your good self. I knew that you couldn't resist, and from what you said previously, on evidence based legislation, I'm not surprised that you support the Bill's demise. Posted by Is Mise, Sunday, 28 May 2017 7:44:01 PM

Sorry Issy you're wrong again, but what's new in that, when I typed <<the only reply you got was from yourself. LOL>> I had not actually posted my reply, you had only one reply, you had been talking to yourself.
I opened the Shooters, Hooters and Rooters Party link on this "Ammo Bill" I should have known I was entering the world of the fruity loonies, when the first thing to catch my eye was a pic of that Booby Bob Borsak dress in army fatigues, (what war did he fight in) looking more like a reject from a Rambo movie than anything else, sporting his trusty elephant killing blunderbuss! What a Wally! To quote this Booby Bob “[This bill aims] to remove the requirement for a firearms dealer to record the address of a person to whom or from whom ammunition is supplied or acquired.” Issy, from the above I assume, you're not interested in how much ammo the likes of Ivan Milat is purchasing. Good for you, but I am. Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 29 May 2017 6:00:20 AM

Paul,
Issy, from the above I assume, you're not interested in how much ammo the likes of Ivan Milat is purchasing. Good for you, but I am" Rest assured that the rescinding of the bill makes not a wit of difference to the amount of ammo that can be purchased, the big difference that it makes is in security. The security that was is a part of the fact that ones' address is not on a Shooters License, one's home address is confidential between the Police Department and one's self. O'Farrell and his minions somehow saw fit to dispense with this security measure. The ammo bill was not evidence bases but based on emotion, and you are on record, Paul, as being in favour of evidence based legislation. Posted by Is Mise, Monday, 29 May 2017 9:00:54 AM

"ones' address is not on a Shooters License, one's home address is confidential between the Police Department and one's self."
Then why is ones address on ones Driving Licence? What do shooters have to hide? At the time the police supported the legislation. Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 29 May 2017 9:35:05 AM

Paul,
Firearms are required to be kept under lock and key (or keypad) and require greater security than cars, surely you understand that? How about that evidence based legislation? Posted by Is Mise, Monday, 29 May 2017 9:47:27 AM

"A gunman who fatally shot a senior constable in Queensland's Lockyer Valley had "a grievance against police" and was firing a high-powered gun at specialist officers when he was killed in a shootout, senior police say."
On Monday, in a most unfortunate occurrence Senior Constable Brett Forte of the Queensland Police was fatally shot by gunman Rick Maddison, Posted by Paul1405, Tuesday, 30 May 2017 8:39:32 PM

Paul,
Given the context of this thread are you up to the usual Green tactic of trying to make political capital out of yet another tragedy? Posted by Is Mise, Tuesday, 30 May 2017 10:26:48 PM

Paul1405,
I am expressing my utter disgust at your post that seeks to score shabby political points out of the killing of a dedicated and heroic police officer. That is the lowest of the low. You should apologise unreservedly and seek immediate retraction with the cooperation of the moderator/s. We should all expect to return home safe to the arms of our loving family at the end of our day or shift and after doing our duty. R.I.P Queensland officer Brett Forte. My heart-felt condolences to family, friends and other officers. Another lost life from the Gold Coast. Posted by leoj, Tuesday, 30 May 2017 10:33:02 PM

<Brett Forte: Best friend pays tribute to Queensland Police officer shot dead
Senior Constable Forte, a father-of-three, was gunned down west of Brisbane near Gatton by a man who would later be killed by police after a lengthy siege. Mr Coventon used many words to describe his friend, among them funny, loyal, caring and strong. "He made you feel good," Mr Coventon said. "I think a lot of people would view Brett as their best friend, although he might not know that. He was just that sort of bloke where everyone loved him. "I think that they would be as devastated as I am." Since Monday afternoon, tributes have been pouring in for Senior Constable Forte, an officer of 15 years who was working with the Toowoomba tactical unit and had previous stints at Cunnamulla and Chinchilla. Mr Coventon said Senior Constable Forte loved serving his community.> http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-05-30/friends-tribute-to-slain-queensland-police-officer-brett-forte/8573450 Posted by leoj, Tuesday, 30 May 2017 10:42:40 PM

Leo, I do seek to score any political points. the death of Senior Constable Brett Forte was yet another tragedy associated with firearms in this country, and we should be aware of that. I make no distinction between legal and illegal guns, they all have the potential to kill, maliciously or accidentally (Issy don't jump in and correct me about the use of the words all firearms).
What is disgusting is those who are continually chipping away at the strong legislation put in place by polititions of all political shades, to protect the community from gun violence. Your self-righteous call is ill-founded. Make a comment on Pauline Hanson and how she attempted yesterday to mitigate her own political woes by making reference to the police officers death. Then you can have something to whinge about. Posted by Paul1405, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 7:11:40 AM

Paul,
You have now achieved a new personal low. Your last post is but a reinforcement of leoj's opinion , and I, for one, will not continue this discussion. Posted by Is Mise, Wednesday, 31 May 2017 7:55:48 AM

Is Mise, that is your choice. You and Leo may feel that any discussion involving the violent death of a police officer is a taboo subject, again your choice, I don't agree.

Police Commissioner Stewart
<Mr Stewart said it was a difficult time for the entire police service. "His passing yesterday is something that has sent shockwaves across our organisation, and will be felt for many days, weeks, months, years to come," he said. "It is the one scenario that we all fear: that an officer simply goes to work, to do their best for the community, and loses their life doing just that." Queenslanders who wanted to help the Forte family can donate to the Brett Forte Remembrance Fund, which was set up by the Queensland Police Union. For those who can't help out financially, Mr Stewart said simply thanking police for their work would be a great support. "It would be a good time for members of the Queensland public to simply go up to any police officer they know or any police officer they see on the street, and thank them for what they do," he said. "Because our officers go out there every day not knowing what they're going to face on that shift." For police in Queensland (and WA) a 24-hour helpline is available by calling 1300 BLUE (2583)> http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/emotional-police-commissioner-pays-tribute-to-slain-officer-brett-forte-20170530-gwgnje.html Posted by leoj, Thursday, 1 June 2017 12:16:14 PM

Is Mise, you started the thread so you could dance around the fire like Rumpelstiltskin, proclaiming a victory of sorts for the gunnie brigade, in their never ending pursuit of chipping away at strong legislation to control firearms in this country, re the American experience. Every time legislation like this little bit is repealed, or not enacted, it might satisfy the selfish few who want to play with guns as a recreational pastime, unfortunately the community becomes a little bit less safe when ever this happens.
You might not like what I say at times, but I stand by every word I have posted on this thread. Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 2 June 2017 10:19:02 AM

"The wife of slain policeman Brett Forte has been tormented outside Toowoomba police station
THE wife of slain officer Brett Forte has been tormented by supporters of gunman Rick Maddison outside Toowoomba Police Station this morning. Senior Constable Susan Forte was so emotional she could barely walk without the support of her family as she exited the station to place flowers at a memorial site. While hunched over, surrounded by family and media, a carful of Maddison’s associates drove past and yelled: “What about Rick?”. A gasp could be heard but the Forte family did not otherwise react. .. Brett Forte’s funeral is expected to be held in Toowoomba next Wednesday." http://www.news.com.au/national/queensland/news/the-wife-of-slain-policeman-brett-forte-has-been-tormented-outside-toowoomba-police-station/news-story/442628661084299ebe3c76e00accf7a3 Posted by leoj, Friday, 2 June 2017 11:02:24 AM

it will be of great interest, and of community concern, as to how the cop killer Maddison came to have in his possession a high powered automatic weapon. There is no suggestion at this stage that Maddison held the weapon legally, most likely not, but that is of little comfort when considering its impact.
From the ABC; Australia lagging in reducing gun violence Dr McPhedran said Australia was behind other countries such as Canada, the UK, parts of Europe and even in the US in reducing gun violence. "Other countries have had some successes in terms of strategies and interventions to do that. Now legislation is a part of that, but it's not the only path," she said. "Effective gun violence reduction strategies involve measures like increased seizure and disruption of criminal networks and firearms in criminal possession and it involves the recognising the correlates of gun violence. "Perhaps it's time for us to ask why other countries have taken that approach and we have lagged behind." Robert Nioa, the president of the Queensland Firearm Dealers Association, has agreed there needs to be more attention paid to how criminals are accessing weapons. "We've seen recently evidence that fully automatic guns and handguns are coming in over the border through customs. And yet we haven't seen any serious efforts by governments to address illicit import of firearms," Mr Nioa said. "I think that one of the big issues in relation to firearms legislation, is that there is this obsession with governments focusing on farmers and licensed individuals and not enough efforts put into stopping criminals getting illicit firearms." This Bill, which wasted public money and caused unnecessary inconvenience, is shortly to be consigned to the oblivion it so richly deserves, perhaps a bottle of "O'Farrell's Downfall" would be appropriate to toast its farewell.
