Apparently there is a lot of defensive gun use in the USA, but virtually none in Australia.
I wonder if the fact that having a gun handy for self defence is a crime in Australia and therefore no one reports successfully frightening a criminal off?

Now this could possibly happen in Australia

"Ex-Army Sniper Takes Out Neighbor’s Home Intruder From Bedroom Window"

http://theseattletribune.com/ex-army-sniper-takes-out-neighbors-home-intruder-from-bedroom-window/

"Elmore proceeded to load his rifle with the custom 7.62 x 51mm ammunition and stationed himself at his bedroom window. As Elmore continued to watch the situation unfold across the street, the home intruders became increasingly more violent. As one of the intruders held his handgun (later identified as a .45 caliber Taurus 1911) to Mrs. Cole’s head – Elmore took the first shot from his riffle immediately striking his intended target.

According to Elmore and members of the Cole family – the home intruder instantly fell to the floor dropping his weapon in the process. The remaining 2-home intruders were visibly stunned and confused by the incident and gave Elmore enough time to fire 2 additional rounds striking both remaining intruders before they had an opportunity to retaliate.

Police arrived shortly after Elmore’s intervention and discovered 2 of the 3 home-intruders dead upon their arrival."

Well done!!

Dear Is Mise,

You just went all limp.

Listen mate if all this stuff fires you up so much why on earth don't you migrate? We have created a much safer society here in this country without kids mowing down other kids in our school, without massacres headlining on a weekly basis and without gun related suicide through the roof.

The majority of Australians would like to keep it that way. You would rather feed your fetish. Time to go I think.

Steele,

I've had my time on two way rifle ranges, my beef is why aren't Australians trusted to be able to protect themselves?
Come another war and the pollies will be rushing to arm our young men, just as John Howard was one of those who supported the Party that rushed to get guns into the hands of those that they sent against their will to Vietnam.
Howard was a hale and hearty 26 year old at the time; one wonders why he was rejected when he volunteered for service in the army.
I don't doubt that he was a volunteer; just as were thousands of other Liberal supporters.
Maybe he was rejected on psychological grounds; fear of firearms perhaps?
