I suspect an element of planned scam. Fines are an important revenue stream and it's an easy way to up the percentage.

Odd things happen in Queensland. From what I've read about the Brigalow corporation, Queensland is virtually an independent private country.
Eg why is the STATE OF QUEENSLAND is registered as a corporation with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission under CIK No. 0001244818, Posted by Referundemdrivensocienty, Thursday, 3 November 2016 7:39:44 PM

I received a “final notice” for the registration of one of my cars last week. The car was already out of registration by then, so this included a penalty for late payment, & a registration reinstatement fee. I had never received the usual registration payment notification.
May I suggest you are a little short sighted by seeing this through the misty veil of political idology. This just prevents you from seeing the wood for the trees and that's just what they want you to do. The issue here is that what has happened to you is deliberate. This practice of leaving the advice of payments being due, but gee, they were due last week, is a technique all govts of all political persuasions will do as standard practice. May I suggest that indicator of this is that the reason for no longer issuing new windscreen stickers was for this very reason, to default as many people as possible. Don't forget Queensland is a private for profit state so this practice will become rampant right throughout the state and even the country. May I also suggest that to see things in ideological terms is a mistake as it clouds our judgement and gets us all hed up over things of no consequence. This pleases the powers that should not be no end. The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion but allow a very lively debate within that spectrum. – Noam Chomsky. example of what Noam Chomsky means. Does the media ever tell Queenlanders about Queensland being registered on the NYSC? Such things are outside the spectrum of acceptable opinion. They are undiscussble topics. You and I might get to choose the pilot but we sure as hell do not choose the flight path. Posted by Referundemdrivensocienty, Thursday, 3 November 2016 7:57:21 PM

We have had the same system in NSW for a number of years and those with half a brain are able to cope with it without fuss or problem. I myself have never had any problem. I can understand how the likes of Hassy would have difficulty with this, never being able to adapt to change, and needing to be spoon fed and all by the nanny state. How about taking a bit of self responsibility. organizing yourself with your affairs, get computer savvy as it is now most necessary in this day and age, I have had to do it. Otherwise you can continue driving around in your unregistered horse and buggy, and moaning and groaning about lefty governments at the same time.

Everyone must be getting caught out...
Article in the Australian this morning, QLD Labor MP resigns; was caught up driving unregistered; forgot to pay her rego (and rates scandal too). http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/state-politics/queensland-minister-leanne-donaldson-resigns-over-unpaid-bills/news-story/f877d5078648e83b02c1ff6505f8ad23 Posted by Armchair Critic, Friday, 4 November 2016 6:48:44 AM

Paul said
"We have had the same system in NSW for a number of years and those with half a brain are able to cope with it without fuss or problem. I myself have never had any problem....." that's 'cause you's ony got a half a brain. Seriously though, not everyone has a computer and I know of a few people who have been caught including a local nurse, a work mate of my wife's, who has always paid everything on or before time. The NRMA gives out reminder stickers that one can record the date on and stick onto the windscreen. I suspect that it is deliberate, remember when Barry O'Feral did away with a number of fixed speed cameras and then quietly introduced privately operated movable vehicle mounted cameras and with signs considerably smaller and much closer to the camera? //With the new penny pinching policy of no registration label on our windscreen, we are pretty much dependent on receiving a registration notice in the mail, to advise us it is coming due. Few are organised enough... to set up our own early warning system.//
I recommend you buy a calendar or wall planner (available at all good newsagents) at the start of every year, and write important dates on it so that you don't forget. If I didn't employ this system I'd have trouble remembering that the birthdays of my nearest and dearest are approaching and that I should send a card if I want it to arrive on time, let alone remembering something like rego. Stuff-up or scam, you can check your Qld motor vehicle registration due date on the Transport and Main Roads web site:

It's not a stuffup and it's not a scam.
It's a blatant ripoff! Queensland and NSW aren't alone - there's a similar ripoff in SA. Can anyone tell us whether Victoria and WA have also followed suit? Posted by Aidan, Friday, 4 November 2016 1:38:28 PM

Thanks for confirming Paul, what I have always suspected, that you have half a brain. Still, are you sure it's a full working 50%?
They are asking for trouble with this scam. More will intentionally join the rapidly growing legion of unregistered cars on the road. With the stupidity of the no pursuit policy, even with the number plate recognition system, [currently not working because of another Labor stuff up with computer technology], if they do recognise false registration plates on a car, hoons can just cruise away from the cops, who can do nothing but fume helplessly. To pursue in not permitted. It was pretty obvious when they put the Palaszczuk girl in as premier, you know, the one with the physique but not the brains to be a builders labourer, that things were going to get bad. That was even before they stuck a bunch of girls, with no real experience of anything but politicking, in the ministry. God help us. They are a wonderful mob, aren't they. No windscreen stickers to identify if a car is registered, & no working in car computer numberplate recognition system. No working system to send out registration renewal notifications either, to get in all that money, just a new shonky fine system. You should be there Paul, with your half a brain you'd be right at home. Posted by Hasbeen, Friday, 4 November 2016 3:50:05 PM

Here's another one that NSW had until, after some years, it was fixed.
There is a very worthwhile law that says that it is an offence to cross an unbroken line,(unless turning or for other lawful reason), painted longitudinally along the road, this refers specifically to centre lines but when unbroken lines were painted along the kerb side edges as a guide line some enterprising policeman booked someone for crossing the side line and a new source of revenue was born. In France they have similar laws but the French use a broken side line thus not creating a problem. Posted by Is Mise, Friday, 4 November 2016 3:56:35 PM

Hassy that's okay. Why do you want to keep an unregistered rust bucket with bald tyers on the road anyway. Are you a hoon!
Remember this; Half a brain Paul is able to keep his Model J Duesenberg fully registered and on the road, with no messy stickers on the windscreen, to obstruct my view as I go motoring through the countryside on a pleasant Sunday afternoon . Whilst on the other hand, my friend Hasbeen is hooning around the back blocks in his unregistered rust bucket... aka your 1972 Datsun! Hassy, for years I have been helping you out on the forum with good homely advice to keep you safe and well. Posted by Paul1405, Saturday, 5 November 2016 6:21:20 AM

Wow! Paul, a 'J' Duesenberg, you do do yourself well in your fantasies!!

No Is Mise, he's sure to have a scam going somewhere, & be busy sucking on a taxpayer teat to pay for it. All these radical ratbag greens are at it somewhere, hence their love of big government.

Given that everyone who has a registered vehicle should be contactable before expiry, I'm not sure why this is an issue?

Make a Facebook name for your car with the birthday one week prior to the rego running out.

Next you will be saying that the Queensland Government have appointed
an Indian call centre to chase up bad debts. There are so many Indian's looking to get a visa .We can soon expect a knock on the door demanding you pay up your registration. Today in our suburbs the only people walking the streets and knocking on doors are energy and solar panel companies Indian reps. Annastacia Palaszczuk sounds so exotic like an Indian name. Expect at your door next week "Good morning, my name Annastacia Palaszczuk.Would you like to know about a new method of paying your car registration." With the new penny pinching policy of no registration label on our windscreen, we are pretty much dependent on receiving a registration notice in the mail, to advise us it is coming due. Few are organised enough, or computer savvy enough to set up our own early warning system. Having been used to the label on the windscreen for half a century this penny pinching is annoying.
Interestingly, when I started bitching about this I found just locally, 2 others have been caught the same way, & another who was booked for driving an unregistered car, 2 days before his overdue notice arrived in the mail. Like me, they had not received the normal registration due notice.
What do you reckon a planned scam, or just the usual total inefficiency of the bureaucracy & leftie governments? Like the Hospital payroll computer system, the left & computers should never be allowed to get together. Just ask Hillary about computers if you don't believe me.
