2012-" The Northern Territory's new Chief Minister, Terry Mills, says that 70 years after the bombing of Darwin it's time to consider a memorial to also honour the Japanese who died in the battle."
So a squad of Japanese Seld Defence buglers marches into Darwin and raises the Rising Sun flag? And dodges the stones from protesters?
It's "so disappointing" that Vietnam doesn't agree with the RAR rising sun badge being on parade at Long Tan ,says the oy oy ozzies.
Some threaten to "march over the buggers" ( like premier Askin said to Pres Johnson)... even if it needs conscription to get us there.

nicknamenick, the criminal, Askin said to the war criminal Johnson "Drive over the bastards". A dirty war conducted by equally dirty politicians. I was in Sydney city that day, not to wave government supplied "All The Way With LBJ" placards, but to protest the American war criminals presents in our country.

( my last post ( good grief , what an expression) was to mhaze and the forum blocked me saying 'huh?').
But amazing, some think they can march over Vietnamese in today's Vietnam. I squirm.

I seem to think that most people understand we don't have a right to demand that the Vietnamese (or Turks for that matter) allow us to to celebrate our fighting a war on their soil. Particularly when the battle in question resulted in the defeat of the Vietnamese forces and significant loss of life for them.

The grievance is more about them having agreed to allow such a ceremony, only to renege at the 11th hour. Had they told us to piss off a few months ago, I think we'd have understood.

In a roundabout way, we are quite fortunate in that we don't have any local sites where we can commemorate our fallen at the actual place of the action. Few nations have that privilege.
