I hate the apathetic people and the fact politics caters to these types by aiming at the centre, I also hate the fact that Aussies have no drive other than have a good lifestyle and standard of living, the fact that there's no culture, no one ever challenges the way things are going, it seems like we are a nation of losers! Slow internet doesn't help either! We are getting worser as well and the lack of genuine freedom that exists in other developed countries I just envy, what about you?

What freedoms, and in what countries?
I respect the right of Aussies to complain about Australia, but when you start saying you envy other countries, then I'm with runner. I went along with the first part of your argument though. I'd respond with my dislikes, but wouldn't know where to start. There's still plenty of good things about our country though, we're not a write-off just yet. What I hate is the fact that I have paid my taxes for forty years plus, yet are literally powerless while I sit back and watch then continually get wasted.
I am a true believer in the slogan 'give me a fair go', however, in order to be given a fair go, one must first have a fair go. Nothing should ever come from doing nothing. Also, if you want to come here for a better life, then bring something worthwhile to the table, otherwise you can FIFO. Fit in or...! Posted by rehctub, Saturday, 16 July 2016 10:07:55 AM

The internet provides outlets for hate speech and if you don't like the comments on here, plenty of other websites you can go "vent your spleen" but I have to agree with runner's comments... enough said!

I've lived in Los Angeles for close to ten years.
Travelled all over the US, Mexico, and Canada. I've travelled all over Europe, and hope to travel again soon to other parts of the world. I happen to love this lovely planet on which so many of us share our adventure. Firstly though I want to discover more of this country. I've lived most of my life in the big cities and I know there's so much more to see and experience. As for what do I "hate" about this country? This country is awesome. As are its people. There's no other place where I would rather live. You can dislike a great deal, no matter where you live. But you also have to take the responsibility for your own actions and attitudes. I was raised to work hard, to achieve, and be responsible. And if there's something I want to see changed? I genuinely try to do my best to work towards making changes Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 17 July 2016 2:33:34 PM

I just wish people would admit to racism. It's natural enough to be racist, but not admitting it prevents solutions to social problems, especially those affecting remote indigenous people. Apart from that, Australia is not worse than any other country, and better than most. It's run by humans and humans are not perfect. Live with it.

Good on you, Foxy. Is it any wonder that you are loved and admired universally on OLO ?
Nobody's perfect. No country is perfect. We/they are always works in progress. As for Australia, as the old joke goes, 'It would be a bugger if there was nothing to complain about.' Democracy itself provides complaints: we all have an equal vote, but often the party we don't want to win, wins. That's democracy. Suck it up. Try again in three years. At the moment, everybody is complaining about the cold. But spare a thought for Kazakhstanis: their annual average temperature is one degree Celsius, but they get up to forty degrees in Summer. Do the maths. It's probably 46 or 47 in Baghdad today. It gets down to -46 in Kazakhstan in Winter. Rug up and stop whingeing. Cheers, Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Monday, 18 July 2016 1:53:09 PM

ypgirb, "It's natural enough to be racist, but not admitting it prevents solutions to social problems, especially those affecting remote indigenous people"
Whereas I intensely dislike the political correctness, the advocacy-oriented 'research' (in fact all of the sloppy research that abounds) and the self-interested Moral BS Artists who are responsible for misleading you and others into patronising Aborigines as dumb, forever dependent children without the wit and courage to be responsible for their own choices freely made and to live the rich lives that are available to them in safe, free and democratic Australia. Dear Loudmouth,
Thanks for your lovely words. What a lovely day it's been thus far. For the first time in over a week I got to visit my mum in the dementia wing of her nursing home. Despite my recently broken wrist, I managed to walk with a pusher. The feeling of empowerment was great. I can do this I thought, and I did. I wore one of my bright colourful creative hats - which everyone in the ward seems to enjoy. They all welcomed me back - we took part in the painting classes. the best I could do was a three-circle cat - with my left hand (I'm right-handed). Anyway I won a piece of Turkish delight as a prize. And we shared a lovely afternoon tea, then played cards. I love the place - and the people. I now know them all by name. Mum's happy. It makes me count my blessings. And appreciate life in general. Posted by Foxy, Monday, 18 July 2016 4:20:03 PM

'I just wish people would admit to racism' The real problem ybgirp is that like gender these days the definition of ' racism ' is fluid. The left are so dumbed down they still refer to Islam as a race. Any opportunity they get they pull out the ' racism' card. I am sure by some definitions I would be considered racist even though my strong belief is that all men were created equal in God's sight. Abbott was constantly called a racist and yet he is the only pollie I know of who would give of his free time and serve in Indigeneous communities. Could you really see Shorten, Turnbull or Natalie doing that. The reality is that all cultures have good and bad. Western/Secular culture slaughters their unborn. Indigeneous culture has been unkind to women and a harsh tribal law system. I personally know many whites who have given of their time and resources to help the Indigeneous. They are still labelled racist and bigoted usually by high paid public servants or bureacrats who only ever spend tax payer money and then pump their chest out. Usually they are the largest bigots and thrive and create industries on the white and black man being divided. Posted by runner, Monday, 18 July 2016 4:52:46 PM

July 2 election come and gone. Are media's constant political up dates, distracting journalists from many neglected Australian domestic problems?
So many discussion programs I could speculate using ratings myths, I assume producers are keen to introduce new topics to attract increasing viewers and listeners, increasing ratings, increasing producers credibility. Focusing attention on Australian ABC television. Advertising future programs between programs are usually focused on drama and comedy series programs. Serious topic programs are if ever, rarely advertised to what will be specifically discussed on future program dates. ABC serious programs most often being discussed topics are politics, leaving very few people who care about watching serious topic programs, not bothering to at least turn to programs to see what discussion programs are about. Many serious topics other than politics maybe introduced once a month, to show serious programs are not only about politics. I witness few important topics: family violence; metal illnesses; unemployable capabilities; financial loss due to poor financial advice... which concern many people who have different problems, who could be expressing different stories. A limited number of people are expressing their individual stories, journalist interrupting stories with statistics. In very rare instances, called upon experts maybe the only time experts are commenting. Experts making suggesting solutions are when no solutions exist or no approved experts that will say absolutely nothing worthwhile are available. Many serious program (LateLine being one program), topics are directed at foreign countries having stated experts and journalists occupying foreign countries spending 10 to 20 minutes rambling on about topics that have nothing to do with listening Australians. Very few family violence discussions are heard, I assume as important as family violence is to solve, a quoted theory is that nothing can be done about family violence other than police intervention. I theorise that no person in authority (for one reason being increased employment) wants to change a smooth running dysfunctional violent society, authority doesn't want to solve issues in existing society. The word bipolar may never be mentioned during family violence discussions, nor that bipolar could be a direct result of bad education. Posted by steve101, Tuesday, 19 July 2016 3:19:28 PM

Religion seems to be about god. I express, that people in authority believe god is about natural selection, survival of the fittest in a violent society.
Religion's “The Father, The Son, The Holly Spirit”: The father are the priests; the son is Jesus representing the peasantry; the holly spirit is the belief congregations have in the religion. The establishment “authority priests” are setting up peasants “the working class”, who I say, and many people must admit, many working class people have serious dysfunctional thinking problems. The establishment need: family violence; crime; illegal and legal drug addiction; neighbouring country disputes, justifying increased military spending employment; 13 to 17 years of too much unnecessary education; winter time influencer vaccine injections, giving people influencer for no real benefit to citizens other than caring propaganda and increased employment lowering employment to around 6%, “jobs and growth”. All the bad things happening to poor thinking people justifies increased numbers of: police; school teachers; doctors; social workers; psychology professionals; medical researchers; defence personnel; unemployable unemployed Job Centre provider paper work employees. The bad things in society provide employment for many people pretending to manage and or solve the bad things happening in society. I strongly argue, the establishment doesn't want citizens to think that citizens are being controlled by citizens own bad schooling poor thinking abilities, to get citizens to believe what media tells citizens to believe. Such poor thinking abilities are exampled by serious topic programs, that merely tell program listeners of the many problems individual people have with their lives, journalists quoting “fact” statistics, rather than start proper debates on how problems can be solved. Last Man Standing, Educating Boyd, can be seen below. First scene expresses most of the best comments.
http://www.watchtvserieslive.org/last-man-standing-us-season-5-episode-4-educating-boyd/ Television 10 network ONE “Last Man Standing” episode shown on July 17, 2016, primary story was how the child actor “Boyd” in the story program was complaining to his school teacher on how the teacher was boring him in class. Boyd was thrown out of class for the third time. Boyd's acting grandmother playing a teacher said, 'blaming teachers are not the problem, teachers having to teach to tests'. The story commented how nothing could be changed, teachers bogged down in bureaucracy meetings over how to have meetings, wearing teachers down. Many readers will instantly look for loophole excuses: the Last Man Standing is a comedy program, and should not be taken seriously, as my long time friend who has been diagnosed with mental depression, being treated for mental depression for the past 20 years. He uses simple excuses to escape torturous thought. Not wanting to believe his education self-medicating endorphins conditioning rewarded narcissism behaviour, eventually caused his separation from his wife 25 years ago, triggered mental illness, seeking medication, lead to drug addiction, constantly medicating drug addition withdrawal symptoms, psychiatrist diagnosed as mental depression. My extended comment would be that children are merely being held in school to stop children from learning anything other than endless trivial knowledge, traumatising the learning behaviours, which similar comments were expressed in the Last Man Standing mentioned Educating Boyd episode. Establishment supported by religious ideology, plays god by setting up citizens to have bad things happen to many citizens, to the establishment, which working class citizens have bad things happening to citizens, doesn't matter, as long as bad things don't happen to the establishment. Quoting a 1999 Life Matter guest speaker.
To citizens who believe ideas that as long as bad things don't happen to them, everything bad happening to other people, is fine with them. Which is why not every person bothers to complain at once, particularly at one particular problem. Problems spread out amongst many different problems. I have been trying my best to express how by arguing school education traumatises children's ability to correctly think, so people will believe media lies and poorly explained media excuses. Bad education starting at aged 5 years, did little more than maintain most people's media propaganda beliefs for their entire lives. The more school education was taken seriously, the more difficulty in changing educated people's beliefs and holding changed beliefs for their entire life span becomes. You can't have a proper democracy unless the citizenry have an ability to correctly think. Not by journalists merely interpreting played out invented dramatised political stories, citizens believe what citizens are told to believe. The more democratic performances are put on, the more democracy is believed to be real. Posted by steve101, Tuesday, 19 July 2016 3:27:58 PM

By challenging people beliefs: religious; political; education; fashion... anxiety of being wrong, emotional decision makers would rather feel emotional pleasure of feeling right, wanting to live in a feel good society. Such people don't want to feel wrong. Hatred of anxiety that won't easily go away, persuades people to go back to believing childhood programmed beliefs.
As I try to persuade people that democracy governments are unrealistic, fantasies. The more I try to persuade, convincing a number of people, many of those people feeling their anxiety, will revert back to believing in democracy stronger than ever. The feel good beliefs medicating childhood insecurity can be strong. The desire to feel intelligent over delusional beliefs causes more intelligent people knowing what can be done to fool with insecure people's beliefs. 6000 years of persuading people to believe in religions. Gained knowledge in human behaviour, I can easily assume has not been lost to people in the establishment know. Muslim clerics and parents taught young children a belief in an afterlife heaven, beliefs may have been forgotten by many Muslims. Muslims becoming mentally stressed working in western competitive, hurrying environments to improve life living on a hell on earth. Muslims may revert back into childhood memories, afterlife delusions, enjoying childhood emotional rewards. Suicide for Muslims maybe a sin, sending Muslims to hell, as suicide is a sin for Catholics. Driving a truck through a crowd of innocent people, taking up the Jihad cause, may feel the right thing to do, becoming famous at the same time, knowing police will shoot first trying their best to kill the driver. If readers find this reading silly, maybe you're correct. Yet, in a large number of people, it only takes a small percentage of badly educated, badly defined childhood religious beliefs for people to choose their own ideas of what religions mean, to try a different path. what i hate & all of us should for kids sake is the family law system despite wishing to still give off the impression it's a court of law, with an abundance of rules, regulations, guidelines and procedures.
As well as it's elitism and egotistical wannabe thespians, pomp and ceremony it is nothing more than an arbitary panel chaired by a stooge whom has complete and utter discretion to give a ruling. I can personally account to suffer the indignity of having to witness other parties barrister frequently 'running' the hearings who was a disgusting bully...waffling on with undisguised witty commentry with judge lasting approx. 8mins of a 10min. hearing. Blatant ignoring of rules countless times that alerting judge about got you viewed as an antisocial, unhinged trouble maker. I have irrefutable relevant evidence that contempt of court offences by other party and her lawyer simply by transcripts recording what was said October 2014, filed 3 more affidavits, before 3 more hearings continuing the misleading ruse, then 8 months later June 2015 after a slip up between Barristor and lawyer a document gets handed in that undeniably proves it was in their possession back in October 2014. Contempt, Dishonourable conduct, failing to disclose and breking various rules, regs. of court in addition to their own societies/bars codes of ethics etc. It was all done to paint me in a false light to court which I was naturally anxious, emotional and stressed about as my pleas were ignored and used against me in that period. It made not a lick of difference , no questions asked,no call backs and worst part orders released that accounted for future control over my life added to our daughters rights to have a dad ignored. My demand to know why all of it ignored and not action taken....answer " That may very well be the case Mr. ...... but I have discretionary powers in my courtroom. " Absolute Sham.... .Meanwhile I grew even more court sanctioned distant from my own beautiful child. Posted by exismental, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 9:21:46 PM

Sadly Exis, money determines law in this country as in most cases, he who has the deepest pockets usually wins.
You either have to have plenty of dosh, or none, because anything else is just wasted. And family law is ridiculous, especially when the likes of DVO's are so easy for some to acquire. Posted by rehctub, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 6:37:57 PM

There is an urgent need for the serious education of children of all ages in the rights, responsibilities and consequences of marriage. Both boys and girls must be taught about the differences between male and female natural behaviour; about what is reasonable to expect from a spouse; and how to take great care to only become legally involved with another person when there is total trust, which can only happen after a reasonably long period of 'getting to really know' the other person. The world doesn't need more damaged children, torn apart by parents who married unsuitable partners because they believed the 'lived happily ever after' myths of fairy tales and lying adults too ashamed to admit their mistakes.
Marriage and having children has to be considered by the state to be too serious to be left to the hormones of young people with little experience and less wisdom. Posted by ybgirp, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 9:24:12 PM
