Oh, good for you Nathan.
Alternatively, you could just give them to me. I'll find a good use for them. :) Posted by Bugsy, Thursday, 14 April 2016 9:34:49 AM

I don't really object greatly to the new
$5.00 note. I would have preferred a more artistic version of our wattle - instead of the current lumps. But that's a minor criticism. Also, I guess the Queen's portrait is appropriate (she's on every other of our monies) until - (if and when) we become a Republic. At least - an attempt has been made to make the new note more secure and also tactile for the sight impaired which is a good thing. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 14 April 2016 11:05:51 AM

Predictably the The Drum (ABC) used it as another opportunity to bag the government by default. Where the taxpayer-funded ABC is concerned, nothing good will ever happen while the LNP is in government.
Not that the designs of the existing notes of all denominations are any good. So a change is refreshing. What would the currency look like if the politically correct leftist 'Progressives' had their way? The very first priority would be a multicultural lesbian who arrived yesterday and has rapidly set a track record courtesy of the ABC (it always gives a podium to Australia haters) of dumping on Australia and its inhabitants. More importantly, what would be the greatly diminished value of the currency if the CFMEU's boy, Shorten, was in government? The $5 note would be a coin and the now worthless coins from 20c down would be put out of circulation. Posted by onthebeach, Thursday, 14 April 2016 12:42:46 PM

Some people need to get a life. If the note is still worth the same as the old one, then it's OK. Nathan, don't sprout such rubbish. You will spend them. Money in any form is just money, not a work of art you like or don't like. You are a sucker when the media want's to make a fuss about absolutely nothing. Most people will not even know that the damn things are different.

I'm not a fan of the new $5 note.
I wasn't a fan of the old $5 note either. I'm not a republican, but our Queen gets recognition on so many other things (including all our coins) whereas there are many underrecognised Australians who could be shown instead. However the new design is worse IMO because it removes the ability to instantly tell the value of a banknote by its colour. Posted by Aidan, Thursday, 14 April 2016 10:14:07 PM

Aidan,
Good point about more easily identified currency. Many get confused by the similarity in low light of the 10c and $1 coin for instance. Likewise agree that the Queen's head and others on bank notes are far too large. Posted by onthebeach, Thursday, 14 April 2016 11:00:03 PM

Sorry, folks, but I like it; a refreshing design.

Dear Is Mise,
On the whole, I like it as well. Posted by Foxy, Friday, 15 April 2016 12:12:30 PM

Re design,
What if Australia was to have a new flag for example? Would people accept a new flag if it looked poor or tatty? If this is the start of a sloppy movement in terms of Australian design - then that's something to be concerned about. I thought Australia was supposed to have some quality in terms of work - and how much has this new $5.00 note cost taxpayers in terms of design? For example, an Australian Newspaper story from September 27th 2012 says: "One Swiss designer was paid $300,000 for a series of designs rejected by Reserve Bank management." This is in regard to potential new banknotes. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/treasury/first-look-at-our-potential-new-banknotes-and-the-untold-tale-behind-their-design/story-fn59nsif-1226482167158 Posted by NathanJ, Friday, 15 April 2016 12:23:05 PM

I think its very rainbow like.
Why does everything have to have a gay agenda attached to it? Posted by Armchair Critic, Saturday, 16 April 2016 10:57:43 AM

My only interest is in how much one I put in my piggy bank today will buy in 10 years.
Anyone like to guess? Posted by Hasbeen, Saturday, 16 April 2016 12:36:33 PM

Dear Armchair Critic,
Talking about rainbows. Everybody on the planet has the capability of possessing all the colours of the rainbow inside. The old adage tells us ; "Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud." Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 16 April 2016 5:42:21 PM

I don't think the design has anything to do with being left right, centre, Republican, Monarchist or whatever. It is really a horrible design. I mean, really horrible. Design wise, who ever chose this needs to be punished severely ;)

I've not seen the new $5 note yet but we need to consider the timing of the release.
It was only a month or so ago that the Trans Pacific Partnership was signed which will put corporations in control of the world and it only a couple of weeks ago that a new archway appeared out of nowhere in London. (don't know if it was in the city state of London or not) and another such arch suddenly appeared in the Washington DC which is the equivalent of the City of London State and the Vatician. I think there are some dots to be joined up here and it would be good to get someone who is good at reading symbology to have a look at that $5 note. One has said: "The new $5 note looks like a 5 year old was let loose with crayons."

I've made a decision that I WILL NOT spend this vile looking $5.00 dollar note, save it and later give all cash collected to charity at Christmas.
