Foxy,
True enough, the Police are neutral but I choose to believe my 17 year old daughter's anecdotes about the gangs in Melbourne, there are African and Middle Eastern gangs and there are smaller crews of mixed ethnicities who've formed for safety in numbers against these predators.
Everyone who lives in the Northern suburbs knows what's going on, there's a lot of violence day to day but it's almost all within the Lebanese Muslim gang milieu, so the level of fear among normal people isn't high.

//Where is the information for readers, such as ethnicity and reasons for the brawl.//

Apparently you're too simple to understand the five basic Ws of journalism: who(m), what, where, when and why.

If a journalist can get answers to any of those questions, they'll report them. If they don't report one or more of those answers, it is quite safe to assume that they don't have them. Reporters are just regular people like the rest of us: they are not the Delphic Oracle, and they're definitely not omniscient.

//Groups of Sri Lankans have been known to brawl, so has Crouts//

Do you mean Krauts or Croats? It's so difficult to work out what racists mean when they have such a poor grasp of English. Regardless of which spelling/ethnicity you choose to denigrate, the correct grammar is 'so have [insert racist epithet here]'.

//Maybe it was Buddists and those Presberterians, who knows?//

Maybe it was the Buddhists and the Presbyterians.

Or maybe it was just all the people who were sick and god-damn tired of idiots who can't spell 'Buddhist' properly voicing their long-held frustrations against people whose arguments are worse than their spelling.

Who knows? I know that you'll try and blame it on Muslims even if it becomes apparent that it had nothing to do with them.

Toni Lavis perhaps you can also explain why the Police have a dedicated Middle East Crime Squad? I am amazed they have not changed the name also but obviously wiser heads have prevailed.
I understand your criticism but it is because of the fatuous and dishonest dealing such as this that people sometimes get the "Wrong" idea. Of course so many times it is actually the "Right" idea too.

What the posts on here show is a pansy attitude to reality.
It is important that the identity, not necessarily the names & addresses,
but the ethnicity of the gangs involved is necessary information for
both police and the public.

Are we afraid of 18c being applied to us if we call a spade a bloody shovel ?
Hmmm that may be the reason ethnicity is not reported.

By the way, Toni your links gave no information on the fighters.
So why did you say the news items did give the information ?
You know, people do look at links. It makes you look foolish.

One report did say they were high school students.
I think this thread illustrates a good reason why what grouping
is involved should be published. It stops the wrong group being blamed.

I doubt very much if the Police & Journalists would have had any trouble reporting that it was some White, Anglo-Saxon, Male Bogans from Blacktown. In fact I believe they would have delighted in it.

There is still no official News on just what ethnicity these Hooligans were. Shades of Germany, & once again PC raises it's ugly head, I feel.

I see the apologists are out to avoid & condemn anyone pointing a finger at that particular ethnicity we are all thinking off. Racist?

One way of stopping the innuendo & guessing game would be to spell the ethnicity out loud in the first instance. The people are then informed & not worried unnecessarily.

I think it was BAZZ who said 'pansy attitude to reality' and I think he's right.

During my time in the job I can tell you quite categorically, Sydney is awash with ethnic gangs and growing! Moreover police command are petrified of being accused of racism. And plainly speaking some police aren't capable of physically interdicting street violence, as there is a theme of the 'pygmy policeman' about, that regrettably no longer strikes fear into the hearts of these brawling ethnic malcontents?

Several centuries ago, I was a founding member of the now defunct TRG. All members of the TRG had persuasive natures. Consequently they always accomplished their task? Sadly, a certain politician thought these 'persuasive natures' did nothing to magnify or augment the 'successes and benefits' of multiculturalism, therefore the TRG was disbanded, and they were replaced by the Riot Squad, 'riot' in name only it would now appear?

What's it called now? - equal opportunity; persuasion Vs coercion & compulsion; Police Service not Police Force; spineless magistrates; jelly judges; no more Summary Offences Act, which succeeded the old Police Offences Act; a complete disintegration of Prison discipline;

Need I go on dear friends? I think not. The public get the police force they deserve, so said one well and truly 'pi.sed off' former Commissioner of Police?
