At first I thought that it was a joke, but then reading further, KRudd has been using his wife's wealth to schmooze diplomats all over the world for his bid, but is still waiting for endorsement from the Australian government.

My personal opinion is that KRudd would be a severe embarrassment to Australia in this position and that Turnbull should nominate someone else that could really do this job. Ideas?

The UN is such a joke Kev would probably go quite well. He managed to squander a large deficit and stuff Australia's economy in such a short time. I am not sure he hates Israel enough to qualify although he did make a very quick change on the 'gay' marriage and gw issues when he thought his support was slipping. Maybe Malcolm might do the country a favour and apply for the job.

SM,
As a tree, the UN is beyond pruning.

It needs pulling and the sooner the better.

A new planting is needed, but select the species.

Dear Shadow Minister,

Whether our current Prime Minister appoints this
former PM as UN Secretary General is the question.

His background is impeccable.

Bachelor's Degree in Asian Studies from the Australian
National University in Canberra. Speaks fluent Mandarin.
Has wide experience with a diplomatic career in embassies
in Stockholm and Beijing. Held positions with the
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Was the Shadow
Minister for Foreign Affairs. Was a national leader -
Prime Minister. So he's used to dealing with politicians
and world leaders on a global scale. He's experienced
and would not embarrass Australia. There's few who can
match his qualifications and experience.

Still it's up to the current PM.

Yep that's what the UN needs.

A totally incompetent fool, with a huge ego & dreams of grandeur.

Still I don't suppose he would be very much worse than either of the last 2, just more objectionable to us, because we know what a self serving rat he is. A lot like Turnbull actually, they probably like each other.

That other useless twit Fraser also had dreams of getting the job. What is it about UN Secretary General job, that attracts the most incompetent people on earth.

Rudd would be almost as embarrassing as Abbott would be in any post involving representing Australia.

Both these blokes have a problem controlling their tempers when things don't go their way, so we need to keep them out of the public eye.
Even their own political parties threw them out!

Dear Hassie,

The job may attract incompetent people,
but it's the competent ones that get it
so you can breathe easy.

Sorry Foxy.

If you want to make that claim, you'll have to name at least one UN Secretary General that was competent.

Please don't try too hard, you shouldn't be straining yourself yet.

How is the recovery going by the way?

Dear Hassie,

There's a few that come to mind:

1) Kurt Waldheim (Austria)
2) Dag Hammarskjold (Sweden)
3) Kofi A. Annan (Ghana)
4) Boutros Boutros-Ghali (Egypt)

I'm improving with walking thanks to physio.
Still a bit wobbly - but doing better.
However, my shoulder hurts dreadfully (they're
letting it heal naturally and it is a pain).
They offered to operate on the shoulder and re-structure
it with this false device. I took one look at it
and said - "I'll wait and see if it gets any worse
thanks."

I didn't like the look of this artificial
ball and socket. But I suppose I'm being silly -
afterall they've stuck a big plate in my leg and
it's working fine. What turned me off (apart from
the look of it) was the fact that the specialist
told me there was a risk of a stroke with the
shoulder operation.
That did it.

Orthopedic surgeons are being inundated with the problems of morbid obesity. Over 90% of problems have to do with excess weight. -Of particular concern with the slack-arsed Baby Boomers, especially the women, who were raised as princesses by doting parents and did SFA exercise.

In kindness, get out more and the other solution, smaller serves.

As for the report quoted in the OP, there would be no doubt at all that it would have come from Kudd707's own extensive marketing and publicity machine.

Now for the nasty bit, the taxpayer is funding his office, staff and travel, all parts of that beaut golden handshake that ex-PMs (and politicians) receive and regardless of how he stuffed Australia.

'Big Australia' Rudd is the darling of astroturfing NGOs and other grubs who made millions out of the disgusting criminal people smuggling scam. On the bright side, he was not a signed-up Fabian like other Labor leaders, which contributed to his downfall at the hands of opportunist Fabian Gillard and the horrendous defamation of him by the Fabians and Union tools who dominate the Labor Caucus.

Wrong again Onthebeach.

"The body mass index (BMI) distribution varies between men and women. The distribution for men peaks at higher values, indicating that overweight/obesity is more common in men (70%) than in women (56%)." (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare - 2015. www.aihw.gov.au )

So if we follow your words of wisdom above then the boys were obviously treated more like little princes than the girls then aye?

Foxy, I am sorry to hear of your pain. Shoulder pain is certainly difficult to control.
At least your fingers can still type out responses to OLO :)

Suseonline,

You would always know better than medical specialists.

Try Googling orthopedic and have a chat with a doctor. Don't you claim some involvement in community health?

Well it is certainly obvious I know more about this subject than you OTB.
What about all those slack-ar##ed obese men who did SFA exercise as boys then?
Certainly there are more of them than the women you claimed?

As for your wild talk about how close you are to orthopedic surgeons, well how about some proper statistics to back that up? Either put up or shut it down...

Suseonline,

Absolutely, definitely, anyone into or over the hump of middle age who is suffering orthopedic problems would be strongly advised to review her weight and to avoid that sedentary lifestyle.

If you are a nurse and you are advising patients otherwise you are a menace.

It is a pleasure to see so many young women enjoying their bodies and lives outdoors. That is NOT what has been modelled to them by the greatest majority of Boomer women, urban princesses who did squat and their mums did practically everything for them.

Need to check what Boomer women did as girls, in their youth and in adulthood? Just review the papers of the day. Their mothers and grandmothers were different. The time saved by technology was squandered, wasted on The Box, phone and pre-cooked foods and takeaway.

With allowances of course for the city women who went against the tide and did use that extra time to good effect (and left the lounge chair) and to the country women who always were different, independent by need and nature.

Dear Suse,

I have always been slender. It's in my genes.
I have always been independent and active
until my recent fall in the Yarra Valley restaurant
where we tok my sons for their birthday
that caused my mishap where I shattered the femur
in my right leg and the humerus in my left shoulder.
It was a freak accident.

My orthopaedic surgeon (hip and knee specialist)
is amazed at the progress I have made in such a short
time - and he assures me that I shall continue to make
progress. It is a question of attitude - and I certainly
learned not to give up from the inspiring men women
and men that I met in hospital and physio. Of all ages.
Not to give up.

As for being treated as a "princess."
Not true. My parents raised me with an education - and
to work hard.

Sedentary lifestyle?
Not mine.
I've studied and worked full-time all of my life.
Raised a family while doing so. I look after my grandchildren
and my mum who has dementia. I am involved in the
community, and until recently I worked part time as well.

I think we can only speak from our own experience.
And making sweeping statements especially about people
we've never met and don't know is neither logical,
nor wise.

But what the heck - this is a public forum. It attracts
all sorts of armchair critics who feel compelled to vent
their spleens. That's par for the course.

cont'd ...

Now back to Mr Rudd.

He's had a diplomatic career as well as being
active on the global scale in the Department
of Foreign Affairs. He's mixed with world
leaders as well as being a leader of a nation.
He would be a great representative for our nation.
It makes sense to have him be appointed to the
United Nations. He has the knowledge and expertise
to do a good job. Our current Prime Minster is a
fair and logical leader. I'm sure he will do what
he feels is best and will avoid playing "politics."

Rudd is well liked around the UN and I think he will do well in that role, there won’t be and conflict between Turnbull and Rudd.

I can't understand why the great objection to
the United Nations. After all the United Nations
provides a forum for world opinion and a
mechanism for conflict resolution. Alongside
that there is a growing body of international law
that specifies the rights and obligations that nations
have towards one another - particularly with respect
to aggression.

Over the years the United Nations has intervened
successfully in a number of wars - in Korea and the
Middle East and in several situations that may have
led to war(for example in the superpower crisis
involving Cuba and Berlin).

A major difficulty with international peace making, of course,
is that compliance with the resolutions of the United
Nations and the rulings of its world court are voluntary,
for not country is willing to surrender its sovereignty
to an international body. The United Nations is most
effective when superpowers are able to agree on a course of
action and mobilize their blocs to support it.

Even so, the organisation provides an influential
forum for world opinion, and while it does not always
prevent war, it surely helps make it less likely.

579>> Ttbn So what are the major faults of the UN.<<

Let me educate you 579.
The United Nations Security Council consists of fifteen nations, five of which are permanent: The other ten nations are elected to serve two-year terms. The five permanent members enjoy the luxury of veto power; Even if the other fourteen nations vote yes, a single veto will beat this overwhelming show of support.

In 1970, the nuclear non-proliferation treaty was signed by 190 nations. Despite this treaty, nuclear stockpiles remain high, and numerous nations continue to develop these devastating weapons, including North Korea, Israel, Pakistan, and India. The failure of the non-proliferation treaty details the ineffectiveness of the United Nations,

Sri Lanka experienced a civil war lasting from 1983 to 2009. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon acknowledged being “appalled” by the situation. From January to April of 2009, over 6,500 civilians were killed in the so-called U. N. “safe-zone”.

Child rape: Reports from Bosnia, Kosovo, Cambodia, Haiti, and Mozambique. Areas with peacekeeping forces saw a rapid rise in child prostitution. Often, U.N.soldiers would reward the children with candy or small sums of money, so they could claim the sexual relationship was prostitution rather than rape. Senior officials in the United Nations refused to condemn the peacekeepers.

Srebrenica safe-zone, Serbian forces invaded the area. Despite the UN peacekeeping force present, Serbian soldiers entered the camp, raping Bosniak women and murdering freely while the Dutch peacekeepers did nothing. By July 18th, 7,800 Bosniaks were dead

The United Nations recognized the Khmer Rouge as the true government of Cambodia, despite the fact that they had killed 2.5 million Cambodians, amounting to 33% of their total population.

In 2003, Sudan erupted in conflict. By 2005, the Janjaweed were carrying out attacks on populated villages prompting condemnation by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan. Despite this condemnation, the UN did not enter Sudan. It was not until 2006 tha UN soldiers were dispatched to the area. Despite their presence, fighting continued until 2010. In seven years, an estimated 300,000 Sudanese civilians were killed.

The Rwandan genocide of 1994 details the gross inability of the United Nations to carry out its sworn duty to maintain peace and security. Most shocking in this series of events is the abandonment of a school by Belgian peacekeepers after ten soldiers were murdered. Thousands had flocked to the school for UN protection, and roaming gangs of Hutu supporters killed nearly all of them.

There you go 579, faulty enough for you?

Ditto as well.

The UN must be missing those millions of Aussie taxpayer dollars that the other conceited, mendacious and self-serving egotist, Julia Galah'd (Obama got that right!) was planning to hand over to make up for 'poisonous carbon dioxide'.

Peacekeepers are not Judge and jury. The khmer of Cambodia is the language and the population. Peacekeepers don’t fight wars.
Peacekeeping has proven to be one of the most effective toolsavailable to the UN to assist host countries navigate the difficult path from conflict to peace.
Peacekeeping has unique strengths, including legitimacy, burden sharing, and an ability to deploy and sustain troops and police from around the globe, integrating them with civilian peacekeepers to advance multidimensional mandates.
UN Peacekeepers provide security and the political and peacebuilding support to help countries make the difficult, early transition from conflict to peace.
Cambodia is a constitutional monarchy, and its constitution provides for a multiparty democracy . The Royal Government of Cambodia, formed on the basis of elections internationally recognized as free and fair, was established on September 24, 1993. The constitution established three branches of government — legislative, judicial, and executive. In practice, the legislature and the judiciary are not well developed, and the executive holds most of the government’s power. Also, in 1993 Cambodia held its first general election, with support from the UN.

Foxy,

A BA in languages is about as low a qualification one can get. Generally a top ranking diplomat would have qualifications in international law etc.

His diplomatic career was pretty much at the bottom of the ladder and only for 7 years. His career as PM and FM achieved very little internationally, and according to Wiki-leaks was regarded as a pompous windbag and a buffoon. His only achievement was helping mobilise forces against Gadafi in Libya.

So there are many, many people more qualified than Rudd for the post.

I must agree with TTBN when he opines the UN is a 'rotten' organisation. Moreover they've proven they're morally and probably criminally corrupt, and have been so for decades. Look at Rwanda, and the slaughter they've permitted to happen there for a start! Just ask a few of the Aussie soldiers who served over there with UN 'Peace-keeping' (sic) Forces about the unmitigated genocide that occurred while under the aegis of the UN?

Should Mr RUDD get a guernsey with the UN? It matters very little to me. I agree with others, we should distance ourselves from them immediately.

Foxy,

Thanks for you comments.

I think KRudd has far less of a chance at the position than is postulated by the media, as the position tends to rotate between areas and is supposedly due for Eastern Europe.

It is my opinion that the regard that other have for KRudd is far less than he holds himself in.

Dear SM,

There have been 8 UN Secretary-Generals.
None have been women and none from Eastern
Europe. Experts feel that it's their turn
so you could be right that Kevin Rudd will
not get the job.

When General Ban Ki Moon steps down on December
31, 2016 - there is another strong contendor
for the job. It has nothing to do with My Rudd's
ability.

The contendor is Bulgarian Irina Bokova the
current head of the UN's largest agency UNESCO.

She would get support from permanent UN Security
Council members - Russia and the United States.
