Earlier this year, Australia and Australians were involved in activities designed to save much of the Yazidi population from mass murder, mass enslavement and mass rape.
Whilst not entirely successful in that many Yazidi women and children were indeed captured, enslaved and used (the notion that a 10 year old girl can be sold for the sole purpose of being sexually abused is about as repugnant as it gets), we did indeed save vast numbers of these people from the fate that ISIS and other muslims had in store for them.
Were our efforts a good thing? Or should we have turned our backs on these people because we "no longer [want to] be involved in any activity that involves war or conflict."?
