Natham,
I recall another PM who spoke appeasement, his name was Chamberlan. "peace in our time' Don't you see that Muslims see compromise as weakness. Posted by Banjo, Sunday, 20 December 2015 1:18:31 PM

Malcolm will get around to peace when he has figured out a way of commodifying it to make an honest buck or few. Heh, heh, user pays.
Lets see now: water commodified, check; air commodified, check (well, Julia Galah'd did that one).. Posted by onthebeach, Sunday, 20 December 2015 4:22:18 PM

Nathan, we as a nation need the protection of the US more than they need us simply because we are too poorer nation to defend ourselves should we come under attack so be careful what you wish for.
Like it or not, when the US says jump, we have no choice other than to say, how high. Posted by rehctub, Sunday, 20 December 2015 9:23:10 PM

No worry about Malcolm Turnbull, next election will be a win for the Labour Party and Mr Shortin will be the Prime Minister and this country will begin to grow again with a Labour government. Turnbull is a rich man, a very rich man he doesnt care about us, who are working hard but poor people. Turnbull is a very evil man with to much money, why is he a Prime minister with all the money he has? This is a man who must not be trusted.

"peace in our time' Don't you see that Muslims see compromise as weakness" ISIS is mainly local people fighting for what the other rebels are with foreign support. Now no-one knows who is in the wrong , it's all being negotiated. Terror comes from within western countries own populations. You vant die master race to vin und schute den Semitic volken ? I have a dream, famous words.
My dream is that Australia does not build or buy a Submarine. Does not spend billions buying American Fighter Jets. Sadly the Lib/Lab coalition taxpayers will have to buy these super expensive war toys and one day our armed forces will want to use them to justify the expense. Pope Francis opened 2015 on Thursday by calling on the world to redouble its efforts for peace, saying “peace is always possible, and we have to seek it.”
“May there never again be wars, but always the desire and commitment to peace and fraternity among peoples.” In June, the Pope staged a surprise 'peace prayer' with the Israeli and Palestinian presidents in the Vatican gardens. The Pope has denounced violence in Iraq and Syria fueled by ISIS forces, and has been involved in restoration of relations between the United States and Cuba. http://www.cruxnow.com/church/2015/01/01/pope-francis-opens-2015-with-calls-for-peace-loyalty-to-the-church-and-devotion-to-mary/ So Malcolm, you have the opportunity to take action like others are - even before Christmas, but if you are a bit busy at present, consider PEACE as a policy to take to the next election. You might even be able to get a press conference with the Pope himself. Posted by NathanJ, Monday, 21 December 2015 10:05:14 PM

NJ,
A left whinger praying to a liberal PM. What a joke. MT will do what is in the country's best interest, not what the delusional greenies think is politically correct. Posted by Shadow Minister, Tuesday, 22 December 2015 8:55:24 PM

Shadow Minister,
Malcolm Turnbull will do what is in his best interests. I mean he took over the position of Tony Abbott and there are still some within the Liberal Party who are unhappy with that. I would suggest, with Malcolm Turnbull and Julie Bishop both being very intelligent people, providing alternatives to move towards a world peace policy is not something to oppose is it? It's not a bad thing. Finally - I'm not left wing, I am just myself - so I can be left, right, wrong, a mix of things or in the centre. Posted by NathanJ, Tuesday, 22 December 2015 10:36:31 PM

Nathan,
Only the left whinge greens have been ignorant enough to preach that non involvement by Australia in Iraq and Syria would achieve peace in either the middle east or Australia. The use of force is a last resort, but is occasionally required to prevent a greater evil. It was required to stop Hitler, and has saved thousands of minorities in Iraq and Syria. "Australia will no longer be involved in any activity that involves war or conflict."
Earlier this year, Australia and Australians were involved in activities designed to save much of the Yazidi population from mass murder, mass enslavement and mass rape. Whilst not entirely successful in that many Yazidi women and children were indeed captured, enslaved and used (the notion that a 10 year old girl can be sold for the sole purpose of being sexually abused is about as repugnant as it gets), we did indeed save vast numbers of these people from the fate that ISIS and other muslims had in store for them. Were our efforts a good thing? Or should we have turned our backs on these people because we "no longer [want to] be involved in any activity that involves war or conflict."? Australian citizens will see this as pro-active leadership, and something so grand, that no other world leader has taken before and a gift a person cannot buy. It is priceless.
Lead the world and make this announcement on Christmas Day. After all that is what Christmas is all about.
