Dear Poirot,
Talking of birds ... Every morning I've been going out and putting platefuls of stale bread and other leftovers on our front lawn for the birds (everything else is paved). And then I watch through my front bed-rooms windows while they eat. There's quite a variety of birds - some of which I don't recognise - but you're right. It is so worthwhile - and does have a great effect on me. Much better than talking about politics. Posted by Foxy, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 12:17:07 PM

@Poirot,
<<There's a colourful parrot...He's not too far away so when hanging out the washing...>> Here's hoping that he and his mates have need to make many passages across your washing --of course so you can get a closer view of his colours Posted by SPQR, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 12:21:06 PM

Yep...I love the birds who visit our garden.
We also have some wattle birds who conduct their domestics in our Grevillia...always hilarious. Have some chooks too...although we're down to two old birds at the moment. We still get some eggs, occasionally...and we actually had a fox sometime back which took one. So now every evening when the sun goes down, we have to go up and attached a little door - and in the morning take it off. Our son had a great time deducing that it was actually a fox. He sprinkled powder down in front of the chicken coup opening the night after the attack - and sure enough the next morning there were big "Foxy" footprints on it, having come back for seconds. Mystery solved! (We'll he is the son of Poirot, after all) Posted by Poirot, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 12:26:08 PM

Lol!...funny you should say that...all the bird droppings around here appear to be configured to spell "SPQR" (Exactly the same as on OLO) Clever birdies! Posted by Poirot, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 12:53:29 PM

He says in Psalm 50:11, “I know all the fowls of the mountains.” He knows their purpose in creation and created them with a purpose in their singing. Song of Solomon 2:12 references the time of singing, implying a specific time when birds begin singing. God also says that He will not allow one sparrow to fall on the ground without His consent (Matthew 10:29-31).Was the song of the bird a random act of creation? Did God not have enough to do and thought this might be a nice decorative touch? Bird songs are a “nice touch,” but they also serve a great function in nature!Ecclesiastes 12:4 talks of men rising “at the voice of the bird.” This morning singing serves an important purpose in God’s creation.As if obeying a cue from an invisible conductor, birds begin singing at or around dawn. This morning chorus awakens the Earth by setting “in motion a series of vibrations which react upon other forms of life” (Lascelles, A Pilgrimage With Animals). Plant life and soil health are impacted by the resonance created by the birds’ songs Posted by one under god, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 1:11:04 PM

Dear Poirot,
Believe it or not I used to admire Bronwyn Bishop
decades ago, as a capable MP. I wonder what on
earth happened to her? Her role as Speaker certainly
demeans both the position, and the part she's playing
in it. David Marr tells us that Tony Abbott thrives on
chaos and conflict. Deeply political. Is Abbott's reputation
as a head-kicker and hard-liner got Bronwyn so
rattled that she's afraid to be objective.
That would explain a great deal.
