I'm not sure how to judge Edward Snowden.
I'm not sure whether he's done the right thing.
I find it difficult to grasp the fact that he
was hired as a "Security" contractor and surely
he would have had to sign some sort of a
confidentiality agreement because he was privy to
secret intelligence documents. To release those
documents to the media must rate as an act of
disloyalty not only to his country but to his
employers. And the fact that he claims to have
done it because he found their actions "disturbing"
does not ring true. Surely, he should have
realised what he was getting into in the first place.
Just what did he imagine the NSA did? He may be
right that the NSA' mass surveillance programs
would not withstand a constitutional challenge and the
court has vindicated him - but it was his job to
maintain the privacy of the NSA - and he knew that
when he agreed to the job in the first place.
