With the descicion to drop charges on 'Dr Death', as he was so often referred to by the media, I would suggest that the media coverage had a huge influence in the final descicion to let him off.

With Dr Patel and Dennis Furguson, both saved to some extent by the media, one has to wonder if young Daniels accuser can receive a fair trial.

Perhaps it's time the media faced trial, charged with interference and the leaking of sensitive information.

Anything in the name of selling papers/electronic media space.

It appears they are a law to themselves.

Rechtub! while it appears the costs not the case stopped prosecution are you fair dinkum?
Remember the slanging that waster of my party blood Gillard got?
I feel only if we disagree with *reported news* do some see wrong in the Medea.
You baffle me? was in your view reporting of the whistle blowers words in this case a Medea beat up?
Was it the evidence, the fraud in getting the job, do you think we should not discus cases?
That papers should not be able to report on trials.
End my confusion what did the Medea get wrong?

Belly, where in this country could we POSSIBLY find a jury bench that has not formed an opinion, or at least been influenced on the case in some way, by the barrage of accusations about this bloke from the media.

Furthermore, with the extent of media coverage the case has received, do you honestly think he could receive a fair, unbiased trial. Or do you just assume he is guilty.

Now if you do think he is guilty, how did you find out about the case, because like 99.9% of the general public, I didn't even know of the guy.

Did you!

I suggest you watch young Daniels case, as the media have all but condemned that guy.

Now while I'm not defending him, I, again like 99.9% of the public didnt even know he existed until the media splashed his face and name all over the place, to the extent whereby I doubt he could walk down the street without being abused.

How does he receive a fair trial?

At the end of the day, the media are there to present news, based on facts, not on heresy.

Their role is not to influence opinions, which is often what they do with comments and headlines like 'Doctor Death'.

It has been the wrong people in the dock over Patel's incompetence, right from the start.

Remember the first inquiry? It was closed down damn quickly, when it was realised the commissioner was after the heads of the hospital management. Couldn't have that, now could we, the fault could have been reflected right up the line of bureaucrats in the Health Dept.

It was the hospital management's choice to keep the incompetent Patel on staff, & in fact promote him, when any manager must have known he was a bloody awful doctor. They also knew, his high operation rate was helping the hospital with high income from the taxpayer.

The management were the people charged with delivery of health outcomes, but they were more interested with income outcomes.

Patel is just another arrogant opinionated lousy doctor. Plenty of them around. One of them left me with a damaged knee, & another would probably have killed me, given a bit of time. We employ managers to oversee the doctors, & stop the bad ones, before they do much damage. When the managers don't do their job properly, due to incompetence, or another agenda, they are the ones who should be in the dock.

Continued.

Continued.

In fact the whole fiasco can be laid squarely at the feet of Wayne Goss, as can the inefficient current Ambulance service.

Goss hated the idea of citizens of a district, [particularly National Party members in the bush after years of Joh rule], running local hospitals as a local hospital board. In the same way he hated locally run ambulance services.

It was Goss that instituted Brisbane metropolitan control of all hospitals, & promoted a bunch of typical bureaucrats to run the things. Yes that's right, bureaucrats. As if they could run anything, except late for work. Notice a similarity here with the current ambulance service wows?

So now you have bureaucrats, answering to Brisbane head office, replacing local citizens, answering to the local citizens.

Can anyone really believe that a screw up like Patel could have lasted more than a few weeks, when local hospital board members could not walk down the street without being accosted by unhappy patients or their family?

Ok, so we probably can't put Goss in prison for being an ideologically driven fool I don't suppose, but those in management of Bundaberg hospital at the time sure should be.
