Does anybody really believe that all these "emergency" laws they are putting in place for the G20 meeting will ever be repealed.

Ah well, at least they are not as bad as what the G20 has already
adopted for Bank Bail-Ins using the depositors money to pay off the Bank's debtors. Australia has signed up to it. It will be interesting to see if the Abbott government introduces the enabling legislation. Or did Julia or Kevin already do that ? Wayne Swan signed up for it early in 2013 at the G20 meeting. One under God,
I helped put this man in power but I don't believe a word he says about this. My family live in this zone and they have been told they have to fine somewhere else to moor their boat. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/breaking-news/g20-police-powers-necessary-newman/story-fnihsfrf-1226716653744 http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/strip-searches-approved-in-massive-police-powers-boost-for-g20-forum-in-brisbane-cbd/story-fnihsrf2-1226703817810?from=public_rss My simple answer to everyone's problem would be to hold these talks on some remote island and let ordinary people get on with their lives. I live in Cairns where we have a huge problem with indigenous people camping in CBD parks and gardens. Are they going to try and make them move or just shoot them as potential terrorists? We have police now that cannot cope with the indigenous population so when the G20 mob come here all hell will break out. Posted by chrisgaff1000, Friday, 13 September 2013 12:30:05 PM

One under God,
How would you like one of these monsters driving up and down your leafy waterfront street while you are tending the garden? http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2012/08/07/231809_local-news.html My wife goes to the shop and buys some eggs. She is immediately considered a potential terrorist? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-09-10/lawyers-fear-new-police-powers-for-brisbane-cairns-g20/4949138 Posted by chrisgaff1000, Friday, 13 September 2013 12:37:08 PM

In answer to part of the initial question about thembeing repealed. From one of the Courier Mail links "The two-day forum has been targeted by violent protests when hosted by other cities. The new powers will extend to the days either side of the event."
If that is as it reads the extra powers only apply for a very limited period - I'd take that as 4 days. Not sure if it needs to be repealed, once the nominated period is over the extra powers are no longer available. Does anyone have reason to believe it's otherwise? Not that government or the police have ever needed extra powers, as any who can remember the treatment of peaceful university students who were lawfully protesting the Vietnam War in marches for which they had been required to obtain prior approval.

ROBert/quot<<..If that is as it reads..
the extra powers only apply for a very limited period>> rest assured..it will last as long..as the appeals progress in court [if you recall bloombergs stop/search law abused thousands.for 5 years]...before the high court ruled it unconstitutional never the less millions got stopped..under a lie .. the usual thing is arrest.. and put an order..on the 'person' to stay..a specified distance away though usually..they just pick me up and lock me away..[in a police car]..or other side of town..till the queen went away <<- I'd take that as 4 days.>> for the law but how long for police to let the new controls[powers]..they THINK..they have/..till one honest lawyer points out they do sure if its written..into..the act[usually]..but is it? but how about mindsets..programed..by 'special/super powers absolute power corrupts absolutely it..SHOULDNT..need to be repealed, it..SHOULD have a close off clause..[but does it?] <<..once the nominated period is over the extra powers are no longer available.>>..LEGALLY but police can..*ONLY act lawfully* 1*the laws of standing..need an injured party* 2*and contract..or civil-law..which..NEEDS informed consent* <<..Does anyone have reason..to believe it's otherwise?e..<<.. Ahahaha yeah ... glad to see this place hasn't changed. Best one I've read all week. Posted by StG, Saturday, 14 September 2013 12:30:37 PM

No-one really believes that any indigenous would be shot. That was hyperbole.
It is possibly another thread, but the poster concerned was correct in saying, "We have police now that cannot cope with the indigenous population so when the G20 mob come here all hell will break out". His is just one of many Councils that have become exasperated by the lawlessness, violence and disgusting behaviour of indigenous people. Darwin is another prime example. No doubt the Left hanky-wringers will attempt to rationalise that as being caused by 'disadvantage', an excuse that has worn paper thin over decades. It is quite apparent to local government though that it is federal government policy that is at fault. Posted by onthebeach, Saturday, 14 September 2013 12:58:55 PM

Yes well, if Australia was a Muslim free country, like it used to be, terrorism would be a terrible act that happens elsewhere. Food for thought! Posted by rehctub, Sunday, 15 September 2013 11:57:00 AM

I am a bit uncertain about your view here Chris.
The stand you have taken but for other reasons is the one the green/pink left/ water melon/ and just long haired git,s take. You add to the list the well off middle class not in my back yard mob. See security of people from all over the world some *clearly targets of terrorists* is worth a short term pain? Nothing new here , gee the big bloke who lost his trousers locked Bowral down so tight the milk man has trouble in about 1976! At the very least the above left lost mob should be kept away from the worlds leaders. Group of twenty Banjo not the world bank OK Posted by Belly, Monday, 16 September 2013 7:21:18 AM

Belly,
Bowral was a real hoot. I hadn't been posted to the Southern Highlands then but was a few years later around the Belanglo times. Poor pants down Mal. Life wasn't meant to be easy. Didn't someone say that? Anyway we never had as bigger guns then as now and as many morons behind them. One mistake and were all dead. Oops.
