Arjay, there are two separate events commonly referred to as "The Gulf of Tonkin incident". The first was 2 August 1964, with the USS Maddox and North Vietnamese Navy torpedo boats. This is generally accepted to have occurred. The second was 4 August 1964 and is now thought to have been due to a false radar image, not involving NVN ships. You can read about it in the Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_incident
Your suggestion of the risk of a nuclear war triggered by an attack on a US ship blamed on Syria seems unlikely. The USA has in the past responded to such attacks with conventional force. Even the loss of a major ship is unlikely to provoke a nuclear response, as the USA has ships in the region equipped with approximately 200 Tomahawk cruise missiles, which would be a sufficient conventional response: http://rt.com/news/naval-forces-syria-strike-514/ Posted by tomw, Monday, 9 September 2013 12:31:15 PM

I'm not sure how to break this to you, Arjay, but your posts are becoming very predictable.
1. Announce that nuclear war is imminent. 2. State that it will be initiated by the united States, through use of a "false flag" operation. 3. Support neither assertion with evidence that would stand even the most cursory examination. This is not a complaint, believe me. Your flights of fancy are a constant joy, in particular your unswerving belief that the US is the repository of all evil. I would hate to be around when you eventually realize that none of your predictions is ever likely to come to pass. I suspect you will be supremely grumpy for weeks. Pope/Francis..writes letter..to President/Putin of Russia..ahead of G20 summit http://www.news.va/en/news/pope-francis-writes-letter-to-president-putin-of-r ..The world economy..will only develop..if it allows..*a dignified way of life,..for all human beings,..* *..from the eldest..to the unborn child, not just..for citizens..of the G20 member/states...but for every inhabitant..of the earth,..even those..in extreme social situations or..in the remotest places. From this standpoint, it is clear..that,..for the world’s peoples, *armed conflicts..are always*..a deliberate negation of international harmony,.. and..wars..create profound..longlasting/generational divisions.. and deep wounds..which require many centuries..to heal. Wars..are a concrete refusal..to pursue the great balancing..of economic..and social goals.. that the international community..has set itself,..as seen,..for example,..in the Millennium/Development Goals...human/rights declaration's. Unfortunately,..the many armed/conflicts which continue.to afflict the world today present us daily..with dramatic images of misery,..injury..hunger, illness..destruction and death... *Without peace, there can be no form..of lasting economic development. Violence..never begets peace,.. the necessary condition for humane development... The meeting of the Heads of States...and Government of the twenty most powerful economies...with *two-thirds of the world’s population and ninety per cent..of global GDP,..does not have*..international permissions...for person security protections..nor aim*...*as its principal purpose. Nevertheless,..the meeting..will surely not forget the situation..in the Middle East..and particularly in Syria. It is regrettable that,..from the very beginning of the conflict in Syria,..MANY/one-sided interests..have prevailed..and in fact hindered..the search for a solution..that would have avoided the senseless massacre now unfolding. *The leaders of the G20..cannot remain indifferent..to the dramatic situation of the beloved Syrian people..which has lasted far too long,..and even risks bringing*..yet greater suffering to a region bitterly tested..by strife and ever more needful of peace. thus this isay..To the leaders present, to each and every one,..I make a heartfelt appeal for them to help find ways..*to overcome..the conflicting positions and..to lay aside..*the futile pursuit of a military solution. Rather,..let there be a renewed commitment to seek,..with humble courage and compasionate determination, a peaceful solution,,*through dialogue..and negotiation..with ALL..of the parties,..*unanimously supported by the international community. Moreover,..all governments..*have the moral duty to do everything possible..to ensure humanitarian assistance ..to those suffering..*because of the conflict,..both within and beyond the country’s borders...>> continued at link Posted by one under god, Monday, 9 September 2013 1:22:11 PM

Lindsey Graham to Charleston: support war in Syria or be nuked!
http://benswann.com/lindsey-graham-to-charleston-support-war-in-syria-or-be-nuked/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=nl War Hawks are getting so desperate that they are using fear tactics in order to motivate constituents to support the war in Syria. Syria and Iran maybe allies, but Sen. Lindsay Graham’s analysis of their connection is simplistic and misguided. According to the senator, if the US does not intervene in Syria, Iran will not take the US seriously and will have a nuclear weapon by the end of 2014. If Iran gets nuclear weapons, such weapons will end up in the hands of terrorists. He ended his analysis by describing the fear-inducing-if-unrealistic situation of a nuclear bomb dropping on Charleston Harbor. In 2003,President Bush..lied when he claimed http://benswann.com/lindsey-graham-to-charleston-support-war-in-syria-or-be-nuked/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=nl Saddam/Hussein..*possessed nuclear weapons to trick America into war against Iraq...None were ever found,..later exposed as forgeries by former Ambassador Joseph Wilson,..which led to the Valerie Plame scandal. In short,..the United States[..colonization inc] has a long history..of lying http://rinf.com/alt-news/breaking-news/the-war-on-syria-is-a-hoax/66965/ to trick the American people..purses..into wars. http://rinf.com/alt-news/breaking-news/a-timeline-of-cia-atrocities/66974/ Isn't it common sense..that the story about Assad..is just more of the same? http://investmentwatchblog.com/conan-obrien-exposes-the-mainstream-media-lies-propaganda/ http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2013/09/syria-nerve-gas-points-to-obama-backed-jihadists-as-wh-chief-of-staff-admits-they-dont-have-evidence.html http://investmentwatchblog.com/my-2-cents-on-syria-obama-and-the-irony/ Posted by one under god, Monday, 9 September 2013 1:44:15 PM

Ray McGovern an ex-senior CIA analyst has warned about a possible false flag event ie an attack on a US ship that is blamed on Syria.
It is now documented that the Gulf of Tonkin attack on a US ship that was used to send troops to Vietnam, did not happen.
Tony Abbott is also against an attack calling Syria a conflict of two evils.
This Thursday from 6:00- 8:00 pm there will be an anti-war rally outside Sydney Town Hall.
