"I can’t understand how officers of the NSW police force have not been suspended from duty after being adversely named in Coronial and Ombudsman reports, and now recommended for criminal charges by the Police Integrity Commission, in regards to the death of Roberto Curti."
Unfortunately another sad case has hit the headlines. Now police officers, not one but seven have been found to have lied before the police Integrity Commission over the tragic police shooting of Adam Salter.
Greens NSW MP David Shoebridge had this to say;
“This report is utterly damning of the police involvement in the death of Mr Salter from beginning to end, with findings of perjury, the production of knowingly false reports and grossly misleading police media statements."
“Like the recent reports into police involvement in the death of Roberto Curti from multiple Taserings, these highly critical findings into the death of Adam Salter demand action from Police Minister Michael Gallacher."
David is spot on with his call for action. Police must stop investigating police. The police internal review was found to have uncritically accepted the evidence of the police officers involved, whilst disregarding the evidence of the civilian witnesses on the critical factual issue of how Mr Salter came to be shot dead by police. As at this minute all police officers involved are still active members of the NSW police. To install a semblance of public confidence in NSW police a single statutory body to oversight all critical incident investigations involving police use of force must be established, and it must be eztablished now.
