Indy from the deep depth of your understanding, yes I am being sarcastic.
Name for me every country that has left the United Nations.
Then tell me how the ALP has had any impact on this UN.
Can you, with out Goggling, name the Australian who played such a big roll post ww2? in the UN?
Sir/Madam take a breath look back on your own post history, better described as Hysteria.
Find for me one incisive comment.
One meaningful contribution.
Your comment here is like one scrawled on a toilet wall ,less a phone number.
If New Zealand fell under such control the west would act.
If those taking legal action to stop our governments controlling our borders, spent half that energy showing concern for these folk?
Are we xenophobic, is it that these folk are different than us that drives comments like yours.
Have you nothing to say about the world we live in other than blame it all on the ALP?
Sir your comments are increasingly nothing more than deliberate insults, some what unfounded and totally uninformed.

Dear Belly,

An important element in any peace process is
the international community and its mechanisms
for restraining conflict among its members.

As I've written in the past, trade, travel,
telecommunications - have made the nations
of the modern world more interdependent than
ever before. Yet today's societies have entered
the nuclear age with political institutions inherited
from a previous era.

The human population is spread among a series of
sovereign independent states - most of them with
their own armed forces - and so there is a built-in
potential for warfare whenenver two nations have
conflicting interests.

Before the twentieth century, there were few
institutionalised ways for hostile nations to
achieve a peaceful settlement. When negotiations took place,
they often occurred only after a war - for the purpose of
agreeing to a peace treaty that would specify the spoils
of the victor.

We all realise that the structure of international
peace-making is still rudimentary, however it now
offers infinitely better prospects for helping
nations to avoid war. Particularly in a world where
all nations face a common threat of direct or indirect
involvement in nuclear warfare, some method is needed
to limit conflicts among sovereign states.

The United Nations is not perfect but it does provide a
forum for world opinion and a mechanism for conflict
resolution. Over the years, the United Nations has
intervened successfully in a number of wars (Korea
and in the Middle East) and in several situations
that might have led to war (in the superpower crisis
involving Cuba and Berlin).

The organisation provides an influential forum for
world opinion, and while it doesn't always prevent
war, as I've stated previously, it surely helps make it
less likely.

Belly,
Yeah, I didn't make the meaning of my connection with the ALP _ UN clear enough. It was sarcastic of course in the way that the true believers have been deceived just as those with real concerns about the world have been deceived by the UN.

Lexi,
Of course when the stuff hits the fan than even the UN has to make moves to preserve itself.

Dear Individual,

I'm sorry I simply don't understand the
point you're trying to make.

North Korea is in the hands of despots, of that there is no doubt. While such a family who appears to be mentally unhinged continues to maintain power is a tragedy.

The fear of a nuclear war is a great deterrent and there is no doubt this country's leader would go down that path with little provocation.
