It is no secrete that welfare is costing us, the average tax payer, dearly. Millions, if not billions, wasted time and time again, most of which could be avoided simply by not paying cash.

From unemployment benefits, to old age pensions, single mothers, disability payments and beyond, often being wasted on things such as alcohol, tabbacco and gambling.

There is also child support which is often wasted.

All of this waste can be avoided, or at the very least dramatically minimized by the introduction of a simple debit card.

With almost every item sold today having a bar code, restricted items would simply become unavailable on these cards and, if the payee wants those items, another form of payment would be required.

You could even allow for say $40 per fortnight in cash withdrawals from an ATM.

Now while there are those who say that is unfair and a form of branding, the fact is the tax payer has every right to know his her tax dollars are being used for their intended purpose, and that's to help with the every day costs of living.

It's a simple solution to a huge problem and it almost makes one think that successive governments are dependent on this money being wasted so they collect the tax in the process.

By all means drink, smoke and gamble, but not with our money thank you.

Many of the illegals who come here know that can get a lot more on welfare than they can earn by working at home. Unfortunately the Christian ethic of no work no food has been replaced by the Secularist ethic of no work free drugs, housing and smokes. We are a laughing stock to many.

While I have to agree with you runner, my concern here is how that welfare money is so easily wasted and, such a simple solution would appear to go a long way towards stopping this waste.

As for illegals, it appears to be a taboo subject on OLO, as I have made mention a couple of times about the outrageous amount they receive, both of which have been blocked.

I would prefer to tackle the waste first, then the way welfare is so easily handed out.

Australian welfare pays those who don't need & denies those who do need. It really is down under alright or rather back to front.

That sounds too Big Brother for me rehctub. Welfare is a hallmark of a First World country, and is the reason why we don't have as many homeless people nor people having numerous children to support them in old-age adding to growing poverty.

Personally I would rather a few dodgy dole bludgers which are by far the minority than mirror Third World Conditions. This is what is wrong with the US, First World Country with Third World problems in many areas including health, minimum wage and welfare.

From an ethical POV I have no issue with the age pension or disability pension.

There are many better ideas around for assisting long term unemployed (they are minimal) back to work including Work for the Dole, of which some are very successful and help provide experience and training.

There are also many government programs that are vote buying disasters or PC horrors that can be eradicated to allow a decent pension for older Australians, as well as ensuring the taxation burden is more fairly spread.

yeah a good idea
1 and a half years..ago..i got a letter from my govt
asking me to visit some docter..to get him to write me a letter to continue a deed of grant pension..[for him to say johan is crazy]

well i didnt..so they cut off the payment
in time cut of the discounts and even the pension card

so affectivly i have no id left
except a medic-care card...[i dont use cause i dont get sick]

anyhow they sent me two or maybe 3 letters
and for all they know im dead..[heck i might be at that]

the thing is this govt dont give a fuc
it expects me in my insanity to beg them..for help
but all i want to do is help others..but with an expired web acces[in december]..that oppertuinity to serve a system

that has rejected me
[and oppressed me and jailed me..
that i thus swore to never give my tax or court fines to

heck who knows if the system needs fixing
all i know is im over giving things away to the state that raped me

then takes away even the pittance it gives
and no follow up..no living person comming knocking asking whats going on...or how can we help

heck i could arrive on a boat
and be treated with more respect and service..
even see a dentist..but why bother...i hope that deep sleep comes soon

im over this nightmare
that the dreaming of oz has turned into

yep im a dreamer

squeers mention's
what alternative to capitalism
my reply reads

capitalisation...[monetising asset or skill]
or idea or id

or position or location

if you have a skill..right
thats credit worthy

a claim of right
that was the gift of the wikiseed/wikigeld i gifted to the world in 2002..[and got speared for doing]

anyhow back to the alternate
[as hrh chogum2002..rejected the gift..on your behalf]

if you got higher education [that might be credit worthy
or it might not..much depends on the skill..and its application]

say we need plumbers..
or bloggers

their skil capitalisation raises
doubles if they take on apprentices

thing is we got plenty of assets
like even a home in israel..has value
in holding value it earns free capitalisation[intrest free]
the assset is the security..for the credit limit..

that in case of default simply transpheres direct to the capitalisation managment..[to wit the king][or queen...in power at the specific time/place]..

as elect-ed by vote and on going quality of service to its people..via the enjoined SOVEREIGN authority of the new un...[ie the sovereigns united nation]..formely called the un[united nations]

[see wikised/wikigeld]
suntreaty and oither written notifications presented
to your leaders way back in 1996...till 2002

further expanded opon here
right here on olo...world freeman society and other sites

i also note pelly
that poinmt re sending dole bludgers to the poor areas
where their payments can save the poor

there they would be like gods

ditto with the old people
their pension in india..would allow them to live like royals
[and employ those intrenched in poverty]

it can then become a massive aid grant
[cause aid mainly goes to expats anyhow]
so the rich get more govt aid..by subverting it of the worlds poor

thats why i came up with the wikigeld/seed
i figurede we are ALL given to live from the one god

ie mortal heirs of the immortal good[god]
the wiki was a way to share the inheritance god bequeths a right upon all life

we are all enjoined heirs
sharing this mortal spoil..not here to loot it
but to make the creation the best expression of our creator

god made it perfect
why are we despoiling his perfection
except to make it better FOR ALL LIFE..!

Well I'm surprised this thread has had so little interest considering the amount of waste this country is experiencing at present and, considering that this would appear to be a step in the right direction, as if nothing else, it would at least channel some of that wasteed welfare back towards caring for the children it was intended for.

Furthermore, i am not suggesting a cut to welfare, simply better management of the tax payers dollars.

rehctub,
Yes, I'd suggest to spend less welfare on those who obviously don't need it & give to those who do. Like the single mothers who send their kids to Childcare at our expense & then spend all day in the Pub playing pools & poker machines with the welfare money whilst all other times the grandparents sort of look after the kids & get welfare also for the same kids.

the 'welfare' we really need to overhaul
is corperate welfare..[govt bailong out capitalists]
or giving subsidies to drug merchants..for drugs that dont cure..only suppress the symptom

we give billions..for drugs that suppress symptom
those that give a cure dont bring in the cash flow

one hit and your cured
thats where govt money should go

not take the blue pill to have sex
or the nikoteen gum to get your nikoteen high

and as for pai relief..we got cheap drugs
worth less that one cent a dose..not ten thousand for a month

we need tro stop penny pinching and follow the big money
going to the big guys..if you gamble capital..and loose
well mate thats nothing to do with govt

give us pure capitalism
no subsidies at all to capitalists
and if a capitalist dont do it..govt does it
not give some capitalist..the cash to turn a proffit

stop corperatre welfare
for private gain

how come the cash govt gave you
didnt get them a share in your house

ps my car isnt through the family trust
so its not deductable..nor my computer..nor my travel nor my energy use nor my travel..yep and no free 4 hour lunches neither

in fact by living off my savings
govt gives ne nuthing..

just takes [makes]..ever more taxes to drain it dry

[only to give it back into some capitalist
that lost his 'investment'..cause he got greedy]

but heck i will still have savings
long after the stream of paper credit runs dry
and the nuvo rich..become used to being poor..

Yes, but if this government can introduce a potential life changing tax with a lie, then surely they can implement changes to ensure the tax payers dollars are being spent the way they were intended.

After all, the recipients can't manage the money, or at least a large portiocn of them, so stern intervention is what is required before the whole system collapses.

It is only a matter of time before the tax payers will revolt on mass, as all it would take is for the mining boom to suddenly stop, and that could happen if the greens get their wish.

Of cause the greens obviously haven't considered the consequences of our country without mining.

The bottom line is, a part of any reform, beit tax, or anything else, is the way in which the system is run and or the funds are distributed.

Removing the wasted cash from welfare would go a long way towards providing a decent lifestyle for the under priv kids out there.

Removing the wasted cash from welfare,
rehctub,
Waste in general is contributing to the economic & social decline in Australia. I witness on a daily basis gross waste on several fronts. Political pussy-footing, insane over-payment of incompetence within the public service & the total lack of responsibility by the Law Makers.
We have too many people on easy street hence their total lack of interest towards making things right again in Australia. We also have to many doing it tough because of the easy street crowd not giving a toss about anyone except themselves at election time. Just look at the extreme selfishness on display at Qantas right now. If the irish git volunteered to drop a couple of millions a year in his salary then the other lot might curb their claims. What's this dispute got to do with welfare ? just about everything.
