As time passes I will get more unimpressed with the bloke.
He is miss using his mandate, but that mandate was huge. He set no targets tow in office other than the one he needed most, to remove my party. Historical for me, I voted with a third of my fellow Labor voters against my party. Big Barry is fast becoming Labors best assert, Labor, equally fast is returning to its base, and very fast rebuilding honesty. But even with Labors best efforts and Barry's worst, it should be 8 years before Barry has concerns. Few, very few,understand how the upper house slows action. How many know, or care that the bloke has had to deal with two shooters party and a religious nut! Fred Nile is a pest and yes a nut, I judge him to have turned 4 away from his God for every one he bought. Shooters? I once loved the sport, am for it not against it, gun control is too harsh. But these two? Barry never promised us a rose garden, Conservatives are conservative. He is spending more time swimming in federal politics pond than state peeing in Gillards pool makes him happy. Do not expect too much, cuts job loss, service loss privatization and a heap of non core promises put away to be recycled. That what we voted for, Labor should be blamed, for not changing its last 3 leaders fast or often enough. Posted by Belly, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 5:59:01 AM

Dear SOG,
I don't know too much about NSW's problems I live in Victoria. However, ever since the Liberal Ted Baillieu contested the 2010 Victorian state election and was made Premier he too has reneged on his election promises. He promised to "rebuild Victoria's infrastructure in our first term, especially in the crucial area of public transport." Instead he's put a stop to projects like - Transport system Myki, LEAP/LINK/ HealthSmart, as well as Regional Rail, Melbourne Market Redevelopment, Royal Children's Hospital IT System, Westgate Bridge, just to name a few. Putting these projects in a "state of limbo," is short-sighted and irresponsible - serving only to reward contractors and managers who will be rewarded with billions of dollars in additional taxpayers funds. Hundreds of construction workers have lost their jobs - and this is only the beginning. We have a law and order crisis - which Baillieu brushed aside as being of "precious little consequence." He's decided to overhaul the states Industrial Relations policy. He's attacking the building and construction industry in Victoria - and substantially undermining support for Victorian jobs. He's undermining progress to support jobs and local business. He's delaying the desalination plant project - which was nearing completion and now will end up costing Victorians a fortune the longer its delayed. And so it goes. I guess this just proves that politicians can't be trusted. The hidden agenda of such a simple statement as "we promise to rebuild Victoria's infrastructure in our first term," reads as follows: "We shall rebuild Victoria's infrastructure sometime in the future, subject to the state of the economy, if the Senate lets us, if we haven't got more important things to do, if it suits the bankers, and if there are no more important measures to win the next election." A little rich. With 16 years of Labor patronage and jobs for pals to unwind, and the power generation to sell before he can get the cash to actually start doing things.

...And what point in enriching corporate contractors with gifts of public utilities, resulting in increasing numbers of unemployed public servants? That is also not good for small business or the community generally, or obviously the cost of power to consumers would be going down, not "through the roof" as it continues to do.
...Just as we the consumer fight for a better deal against examples of the telco's endless war of double speak, guile and plain fraud in their sales push, now we combat the new plague of E/L Co's. Jesus, I'am over it! Posted by diver dan, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 1:00:19 PM

PS:
If between the walls of OLO dwell any closet electricity salesmen, here is a hint for your comfort,If you don't wish for the same ungracious exit offered with no choice to the last clown attempting to lie his way into my wallet, don't call me, I'll call you!! SM what you say is pertinent.
But all the same Barry has signed off on new CSG licenses, and nobody except those who will gain (a miniscule minority) want it, but he went ahead, the bastards want to drill in St Peters, what next George Street, they have already hooked into the Liverpool Plain, it is a big issue to many of us who do embrace common sense mining. He has signed off on Utility rate rises, and if he flogs our Electricity off, as DD said it will cost jobs, and really there is not much other to discuss re Barry's second hibernation but on the other side of the house this term. So we are left to discuss EXPECTATIONS and here is my overview, comparison and analysis of NSW’s plight. California has a projected State revenue of $83 Billion California has a population of 37 Million NSW has a projected State revenue of $60 Billion NSW has a population of 7 Million A comparison as basic as this speaks volumes about government waste/ corruption and the shabby delivery of services to the mugs of Australia. If Barry cannot find just 10%, just $6 Billion to give back to the taxpayers out of a $60 Billion revenue stream to service a measly 7 million plebs then is a dud. By the figures above if NSW had a population of 37 million like California Barry would need a revenue stream of $300 Billion to do the job. Belly I knew you would not be pleased with Barry's performance, but you did well to send a message to Sussex Street, I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in your ballot booth.
Lexi my bohemian Balt I have said before it is quality and passion that is lacking in our elected reps, and I believe it is a generational thing, they are all groomed, what you see aint whats there. What you said regarding "we will re build Victoria if", sorting out the "if" with the money they take from us is what we pay them to do surely Posted by sonofgloin, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 5:54:42 PM

Dear SOG,
No arguments from me on that score. "Bohemian Balt?" Nah. Baltic Goddess would be more apt. Posted by Lexi, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 7:02:01 PM

Dear SOG,
What do I call you? If you're going to call me "Belle," Then should I call you "Beast?" I'd prefer to use a more flattering statement for you. Like: "Bei Mir Bist Du Shayn!" Posted by Lexi, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 7:50:59 PM

SOG to fully understand that election day in March,and the ALP refugees we need to be honest.
I confirmed my betrayal,in fact my act was in defense of the ALP two years before. It was the first time I did not man a booth. First year some booths never existed. I think because, like me,LABOR MEMBERS did not want to be seen supporting a maggot in festered thing named self interest, once, now again, my party. We reduced the party that history shows is the natural government of this state to a billy cart it still is today. But we plank by plank are turning it in to its former, pre Sussex street self. Barry should be given his chance,we all should consider dysfunctional upper houses, rid our selves of the silliness of them. And with great confidence and time, more than some want,Barry will return the ALP to government. Posted by Belly, Thursday, 22 September 2011 6:02:08 AM

One day it might occur to us that the "system" we presently operate is guaranteed to deliver us politicians whose entire focus is on perpetuating their presence at the trough of public money, and not on performance of the tasks that they "promised" to undertake while soliciting our vote.
There is absolutely no mechanism by which we can hold them to these "promises". And saying "well, we can always vote them out" is no argument, since one lot of hangers-on will simply be replaced by the next lot. We are not even allowed to withhold our vote in protest, for fear of being labelled un-Australian. Until there is, we shall have to live with the never-ending conga-line of freeloaders who are quite happy to conduct themselves with all authority, and absolutely zero responsibility. What would be best? That this story is untrue, that someone has hatched on to the new reality of Australian politics? Mud sticks? Or that the rot that once was the private property, for a time, of the ALP in my state, has spread? We must review the new lows our politicians and politics are exploring. An inquiring mind often travels in the strangest places.
This country lad long ago wondered about just about every thing, someone please explain why I did not do so at school. Homosexuality was alien to me, it may have existed around me but was unknown. I read a lot, in time while avoiding the company in social settings of them I lived and let live. The above story I found today in our National newspaper is one about homosexual act in public. In what my reading has told me a very low [at night at least ] public homosexual beat,the lowest kind. We, myself included felt confronted by a minister using what is not unlike a brothel. Can we be any less upset with this? Two story's come to haunt my opponents this morning this and publicly aired inferences about a front bench conservative. Is Australian Politics a cess pool? Some who serve are unattractive idiots how did we, both sides, let them get on the ladder? are we going to one day ask before launching such on our supporters? Just one thought.
A post like the one above , posted about a Minister in a Labor government in NSW bought a shower of posts. I note, increasing slips including some dreadful stuff just this day, is ignored. I say good to Labor, left, posters for not swimming in that muddy pool conservatives so often party in. And wounder how do Conservative spell HYPOCRISY, or is it a word they avoid. Belly,
You ask me why I don't criticise my own party. The answer is that I can rely on you and others to grub out the most insubstantial mud on any liberal. What we have is unsubstantiated innuendo without even a name. But after the gross criminality of Williams and Thomson, and Juliar's attempts at cover up, you must be really desperate. Dear Belly,
Ignore the man. There are people within the Liberal Party like Malcolm Turnbull, that you may disagree with but you'll listen to what they have to say because they do make sense. But there are others like Mr Abbott that you know the minute they open their mouths nothing of much intelligence will come out. It is best to ignore them. I always simply switch channels. As for Shadow Minister. Belly he obviously doesn't have anything sensible to say, keeps blaming others for criticising his party and mud-slinging. Take a look at his previous post where he accuses you (and others) of "mud slinging," and yet in the next paragraph does the same himself. It is also true that there are some people in the Labor and the Green Parties that don't warrant our attention. No political party is perfect. Posted by Lexi, Friday, 23 September 2011 3:03:26 PM

A taste of the Liberals in Gov't is what is what New South Welians are getting for their quite ill-informed decision making at their last election, we Victorians more so with Ballieau breaking promises at will, and the voters are responsible for handing the strong Vic economy to the ideologues.
Petrol prices, energy, food etc, in fact anything essential will continue to rise at way beyond the gazetted rate of inflation because a previous bunch of ideologues (Howard/Costello and cronies) destroyed the Trade Practices and Industrial Relations Acts. O'Farrell and Ballieau have done nothing more than spend taxpayers money on trumped up anti carbon tax propaganda cost analysis, by using using very highly paid, hand picked private firms to provide opinion, and in O'Farrell's case, has invoked a strike from more than a 100,000 public servants after exerting a N.S.W form of Workchoices but worse, upon the States public employee's. Oh, so you can't pay the bills because of the rising cost of living ?, we'll fix that for you by freezing your wages and slashing your conditions and benefits, says Barry and Ted. You'll see the benefit of this sort of wisdom when Abbott becomes PM. Ballieau's country mates want cows tramping all over National Parks in our State to serve their crazed hillbilly power base. Just step back a century and get yourself a bit of straw to chew on and learn to like rodeo's. Here come the Tea Party Liberals Posted by thinker 2, Monday, 26 September 2011 7:18:33 PM

Lower taxes and create 100,000 jobs;
Provide electricity rebate of up to $250;
Support small business, cut Red Tape, and appoint Small Business Commissioner:
There are more but these are the ones that drive the economy, and that drives the quality of life the constituents have. Under Labor taxes in NSW grew to almost double the percentage of State GDP compared to other States, and relief from that is what was promised, and to that end he has given approval to the INCREASE of Water and Electricity charges. He has done nothing about easing State taxes or supporting small business.
NSW is an expensive place to live; Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Utility costs, State taxes, Local taxes, Woolworths, Wesfarmers the Banks and the Oil Companies take all the average Aussies income. The electorate had a gutful and turned to Barry, and what has Barry done in the six months since the drover’s dog election, not much.
The Labor government was self serving and appalling, will O’Farrell just live off their ongoing legislated plunder or will he support Small Business as they struggle against the Big Two. Will he get the events and tourists back by governing the State and protecting the capital city from ideological prosperity murderers like Clover Moore and the myriad of Local Bureaucrats given that cutting Red Tape was in his “Contract with NSW”.
There is little use going through what he has done, except to mention his caving to the CSG money, but that begs the question, Tortoise or Barnacle, hope to god its Tortoise, and if it is, get a sky rocket up it because things are no better for the six months Barry has been emperor, perhaps the emperor has no clothes.
