Revolt in US

There has been a revolution going on in the US for the last three weeks but it has not rated a mention in the mainstream media.
If you were not online and following events around the World you would not have known about it.
It is happening in Madison Wisconsin, where the new Governor has taken draconian steps to not just limit the power of the unions but to destroy them.
It has been over shadowed by the events in the Middle East but is as awe-inspiring as the Arab revolt.
The media octopus that spreads around the World is being very successful in suppressing news of this revolution and will do anything it can to stop it getting out.
It could mean that the worm is finally turning and the bulk of the population in the US has decided that enough is enough; no more will it let the handful of elite, plunder the wealth of America and reduce their lives to serfdom.
After all the obvious just plain theft that Wall Street and the Banks have so far got away with, they have maybe decided to put people power into action for them and not just watch it happening in foreign lands.
Michael More has just visited the protesters and made a speech, which is quite frightening if you follow it carefully.
Today just 400 Americans have the same wealth as half of all Americans combined. 400 obscenely rich people, most of whom benefited in some way from the multi-trillion dollar taxpayer “bailout” of 2008, now have as much loot, stock and property as the assets of 155 million Americans combined.

In this stand against the robber barons that would take complete control, this handful of people could win if they get the support they need.

*The media octopus that spreads around the World is being very successful in suppressing news of this revolution and will do anything it can to stop it getting out.*

Nonsense, Sarnian. Its openly discussed on Bloomberg, nobody
is hiding anything. A number of commentators have discussed
it, interviews, the works. But Bloomberg is the sort of
place where these things are discussed.

No doubt its also discussed on the PBS Newshour, which
is on SBS every day, for an hour.

But no, don't expect it on 7 or 9. They have Home and
Away and My Kitchen Rules etc. Quite simple, these things
rate with Australian punters, not US domestic politics.

Yabby, I meant on the mainstream Australian Media such as ABC or SBS News.
I have not seen it there. I cannot comment on the Australian Newspapers because I refuse to buy them and support Murdoch and Packer et al.
If there was a protest like this going on in France or even UK it would be splashed all over the News Services with great glee.
Sorry but I believe it is being deliberately covered up because it is happening in the US

Ummm... Madison, Wisconsin?

A city with a population somewhere between that of Hobart and Geelong?

Would you expect a street demonstration in downtown Geelong about a local union dispute to rate a mention anywhere except the Advertiser?

Even in the US, Fox News' O'Reilly Factor had to resort to exaggeration in order to get anyone's attention. They used footage of a demo in Sacramento California, pretending it was from Madison... it was the lack of snow on the ground, and the proliferation of palm trees in the background that gave them away. Duh.

But the question remains, I guess, why you believe that our news broadcasters should consider this local spat as important? How many of their audience actually understand the workings of US State politics?

And how many of them actually would even care about this highly localized issue?

Ah Sarnian, so now you think that our ABC and SBS are part of this
global consipiracy to stop this information getting out. Whew.

As a matter of interest, I googled it on Google News and there
is hardly a news service which has not covered it.

But no doubt whilst the Arabs are busy creating revolution
after revolution, killing each other along the way and our
oil supply is at risk, its not high priority.

Believe in all the conspiracy theories that you wish. You would
not be the first on OLO to do so.

I heard about it on ABC radio and BBC World.
One of the arguments is "Right to Work" which the state government
wants to bring in to ban the necessity to belong to a ubion to get a job.

Thats about all I know about it.

I think Sarnian's message was to spread the word and as usual Micheal Moore hits the nail on the head.

I remember thinking to myself that if a similar peoples revolt to the egyptian experience occured in The States, that they would go to great lengths to conceal it.

Would they strafe their own people ala Gaddafi, if their power was sufficiently threatened ?. I have no doubt that they would.

The free internet and flow of unmodified information is the only defense against this. Collective power is the only way forward for people themselves.

The rich most probably think they have a booked seat to next habitable planet after they have finished with this one.

The time has arrived to replace them, with something more representative, before there is nothing left.

Spread the word as Sarnian says and maybe we can actually get something done for the greater good at last and before it is too late.

Michael moor is a grandstander. IT,s hard to work out what he is on about. He is talking in circles like a political speech.
I think he is out for his 2 minutes of fame.

Pericles, says They used footage of a demo in Sacramento California, pretending it was from Madison...

Actually they held supporting demo’s all over the US, so it’s possible that what you saw was one of those?

And how many of them actually would even care about this highly localized issue…..?

Perhaps they will care when the idea spreads to Australia, especially if Abbot et al get in?

Yabby,
The last refuge in lack of any other argument in a discussion is to use the “conspiracy theory” phrase.

579,
Michael More spoke about the 400 obscenely rich who owned as much assets as 155 million Americans, I did not know that before and I am not comfortable about that sort of scenario.

nothing like envy. Has Michael Moore suddenly started to tell the truth? I doubt it.

*The last refuge in lack of any other argument in a discussion is to use the “conspiracy theory” phrase.*

OTOH Sarnian, some people also regularly dream up conspiracy theories,
pointing that out, as in this case, makes perfect sense.

I remind you, its you making the claim, its up to you to provide
some evidence to justify your claim. So far nothing at all, just a wild claim and the evidence suggests exactly the opposite of
your claim.

An extremely rich man telling poor people his mates have stolen all their money, priceless.

I'm sure he's going to give all his money back to them? After all, he wouldn't have made all of his money if it wasn't for his rich mates backing him, you know? The ones that stole all the money from the poor people he's bitching about!

I think I read about this revolution in The Australian, in more detail than I could find on the ABC News. I guess whatever the people of Libya can do, the people across the entire US can do better, and therefore deserve more attention.

Thinker2,

I'm fascinated by what seems to be an emerging form of logic:

1) "Would they strafe their own people a la Gaddafi, if their power was sufficiently threatened ? I have no doubt that they would."

2) Therefore they would.

3) Therefore they are utter b@stards.

i.e. impute motives, derive probable reactions from motives, assume reactions - QED: successful 'proof' of evil. And so, a fourth step:

4) Conspiracy theory confirmed.

I think they call this 'transference' in psychology.

The protest in Wisconsin is important to me as I am an American living in Australia. I have been keeping up with what is happening by reading US media coverage on the net. However, to compare it with the Libyan revolt or the other Arab revolts is ridiculous. Even to call it a revolt is ridiculous.

Wisconsin is one of fifty states & the governor severely miscalculated the sentiments of the Wisconsin population. He will almost certainly be voted out at the next election if he is stupid enough to run again.

I agree with Pericles. If I were editing a periodical for Australian consumption I would not include mention of the protests as I would not deem it of sufficient interest or importance to Australia. There is no coverup - just reasonable editorial judgment.

It appears to me that you have a great deal of time on your hand Periciles when you can afford to spend spend the time to tead an article, take the time to judge the comparative size of the place where it is taking place and write a comment saying it is of no interest!
