Changes to OLO

We've moved OLO across to a new server and upgraded some of the software that supports it. There were a few glitches, but it now seems to us to be running fairly smoothly.

The new server is more powerful than the old one, and new computers always seem to run better than older ones.

I thought I'd start a thread to let you all know, and also to see whether any of the old problems are still there.

Andrew and Jay have done a good job so far, and I'm sure they'll be interested in your feedback if they need to make it even better.

Thanks all, I thought it was a fair bit quicker.
Sure we mostly understand time and costs involved and that those who can will help with both

Hopefully there will be less glitches like the server error one that occasionally pops up. It does seem quicker now too.
Pity it lost my post about flaming in the changeover but never mind.

That's very good news Graham.

I've got to admit that it has been frustrating at times, staring at a blank screen when trying to access OLO or certain pages or threads and wondering if anything is going to happen.

GY,
it appears that there is an error when trying to post a discussion it gives a memory address and says "server not receiving?"
When you try and resend it says 'error can't post topic twice'

cheers

Graham, that is great news. The efforts of you and your crew
are much appreciated!

*new computers always seem to run better than older ones.*

My old girl here, was starting to crash fairly often, constantly
refering to some error on one of the discs. Eventually I unplugged
it, took it up to the workshop and blew it out with the compressor.
Whew, amazing how much dust can accumulate in there, it runs like
a charm now.

Anyhow, once again thanks.

Examinator, just change one word, in the name of your subject, & the system will accept your post as new.

The new server seems to be working very well.

Well done Andrew and Jay - and thanks to Graham and the rest of the team.

GY

It would appear that the issue is the category box clicking as in the first time I clicked 4 tags then tried to post. the second time (later) using 'Lazarus' to recover the text only I absent mindedly punched the 4 tags canceled one then tried to post it showed the same error.
N.B. between the attempts I changed the topic heading significantly
today I repeated the process this time clicked three and it worked likerty spit.

PS yup the new server is good, appears to work well. Thank you.
What did you do with the old one? or was it an upgrade.

The old one is sitting on a desk in the office. We're not quite sure what to do with it. Thought about using it for backups but it is very loud. Can't hear yourself think. So we might even try to sell it to someone, or give it away to a worthy cause.

The new server is going really well. Technology marches on and Australia is well served by this forum. The only suggestion I would make is that the server be programmed to recopgnise natural days. That is 24 hours from midnight to midnight, instead of 24 consecutive hours. It would sometimes be helpful if the post limit on articlles was the same as General Discussions, but no one is perfect, and there neefds to be some discipline. Thank you OLO
