Thank you spindoc.
I hope your Christmas and those of other OLOers is happy and full of family festivities no matter what sort of family shapes and sizes you come in. The discussions are always interesting and thought provoking. I will be away for a bit so until then auf widersehen, ariverderci, adieu, and bon appetit (or something like that). Peace to all. I like the concept, spindoc.
"Have a very enjoyable Christmas, and best wishes for the New Year: discuss" No discussion needed. Passed unanimously. Posted by Pericles, Wednesday, 23 December 2009 1:32:16 PM

Ditto to others spindoc
"Thank you for the interaction and stimulation you have provided and I look forward more in '09." '10 perhaps? cheers Posted by Q&A, Wednesday, 23 December 2009 1:43:23 PM

Hey Ludwig, for the purpose of discussion - looks like you're already consuming a few pre-Christmas beverages ... medicinal purposes only, of course :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all posters and Graham and Staff.
Oh, this seems a good spot to ask Yabby, or anyone else if they know. I notice in South West WA there is a heap of places, 20-30, with names all ending in UP. Can you tell me why this is and how it came about? Just curious. Posted by Banjo, Wednesday, 23 December 2009 11:11:49 PM

Spindoc,
I wish you and everyone else on OLO a Great and safe festive season. Ps. I've just come back from watching Avatar in 3D. *I'm not the movie type*, the last one I went to was 5 years ago, but this was an experience and then some. Possibly the best conceived and executed movie thus far. The peak of the art so to speak it isn't hard to see how they spent $400 million making it. It's really worth the money. There's something in it for everybody . On so many levels. As an allegory of today, colonialism its almost a truism. Cheers folks Posted by examinator, Thursday, 24 December 2009 12:04:06 AM

Indeed, a Merry Christmas, Happy Saturnalia, Sol Invictus and Yule to all.
Happy Birthday also to Jesus, Mithras, Osiris, Buddha, Adonis, Dyonisis, Quetzalcoatl, Hercules, Perseus, Beddou (Fot), Tammus, Zoroaster, Horus, Attus, Romulus and Remus, Korybas plus anyone else I missed. Meanwhile, thanks and best wishes to everybody here for all the stimulating, if not frustrating, discussion over the last 12 months. Take care everybody. ---- DEVK2AAB. What’s that about Bazz? …. .- .--. .--. -.-- … . .-.. .-.. -.-- … . .- … --- -. ---- Examinator, good to hear your opinion of Avatar. I’m looking forward to seeing it. ---- Banjo, ‘up’ means place in the Nyoongar language. Thus in WA we have… Dwellingup – place of water Nannup – place of parrots Gnowangerup – place of the malleefowl etc Posted by Ludwig, Thursday, 24 December 2009 10:48:52 AM

& the best of the season to all of you, from me, too.
Go & have fun, it's OK to be careful, & have lots of great gifts, & all that, but mostly remember to have the simple fun. Like throwing a ball, or a frisbee, with the kids. That's what they'll remember next month, so don't forget. Oh, & you're not too old to play hide & seek, with the littlies, so have a merry christmas. No matter what your religion,Christmas is a time that we celebrate the family, and the values that make our society functional and pleasurable.
It is not a matter of what we believe, but how we treat our fellow man. Merry Christmas to all. Posted by Arjay, Thursday, 24 December 2009 7:57:23 PM

Don't forget the women and kids, Arjay.

Best wishes to all for the season.
It looks like being relatively cool here in Brissie for a change. I intend to do as little as humanly possible today: the kids are off to Mum's later this morning and will be away for a few days before coming back to spend New Year with Dad. I've studiously avoided invitations to family gatherings, etc and will be settling in to do some reading. The book is "The Steep Approach to Garbadale" by Iain Banks, who I regard as among the very best writers in english today. This is his first "general" fiction novel for some time, as he concentrated on his "Culture" series of science fiction. I'm looking forward to some cooling Crownies this arvo to accompany the barbied steak and a generally peaceful day. What more could a man ask for in Godzone? I think a great number of us got our Christmas wish, rain.
In my case the inland rain for farmers is every bit as good as that running in to my water tank, and watering my fruit trees. Let it rain for a week please. Posted by Belly, Sunday, 27 December 2009 5:20:17 AM

May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Chrismas and a wonderful New Year.
Thank you for the interaction and stimulation you have provided and I look forward more in '09.
(Does it make a discussion if I add "Please discuss"?)
