The USDA is lying about record crops in the US ...in order to keep prices low.

As of the end of August... the farmers in the US are out of soybeans...4

regardless of soybeans being grown is torn down amaZON RAIN FORESTS
or plam oil plantations turning whole indigenous lands into mono cropped deserts

the problems arnt completely due to massive crop failures country wide...
but it does match the signs of the end times

Soybeans have gone into backward-ation..(its cash price exceeds future's price)

Cotton, corn soybeans, wheat, potatoes, peanuts, strawberry's, etc, have suffered massive damage.

Worst crop/harvests... in the US history ...for over 275 counties.

China's big crop guesses may be down to false data
Beijing's estimates of huge grains harvests this year may be based on false information, US staff have said, warning of big drops in China's corn and wheat output.

US attaches in Beijing have stood by their forecasts that China's corn production tumbled by 16m tonnes this year, with wheat output falling 6.5m tonnes.

These estimates are in line with those of many private analysts.

The Beijing data continuing to show significantly higher crops may have been distorted by a subsidy regime which pays out in relation to production reported by each province.

'Tempted to overstate'

"To gain more allocation of financial aid from the central government... provincial government authorities are occasionally tempted to overstate their grain output in a given year even if the crop was impacted by adverse weather," a report from the attaches said.

"Though government agencies report a bumper corn harvest for the sixth consecutive year, [this bureau] estimates that corn production in 2009-10 dropped 9% from the previous year to 150m tonnes."

China's official grain think tank, the China National Grain and Oils Information Centre, last month retained its forecast for the crop at 163m tonnes, with the US Department of Agriculture last week standing by a 155m-tonne figure.

For wheat, the attaches estimated a 106m-tonne harvest, compared with a CNGOIC figure of 114.95m tonnes and the USDA's 114.5m tonnes.

for me..the concern is..what the speculators..will do with the numbers..they love shortfall..numbers/of a few percent..like what they recently did with the us dollar..and previously with petro/chemicals..

Just as the year end onslaught on the dollar was spearheaded to a climax by Blankfein’s minions,..so did Europe finally decide to convulse..under an unbearable lead of ridiculous mispriced “assets” and vomited up a whole load of troubling financial data,..which spread from Greece to Austria to Ireland,..setting sovereign CDS to multi month highs...Obviously, this did not help the weak dollar case and cost GS traders a few hundred million.

A note to traders indicates that while Goldman has not lost the war of intergalactic domination, it too, can lose the occasional battles:

Last Friday..we..were stopped out of two tactical trades,.long EUR/$ for a potential loss of 1.8% and long GBP/$ for a potential loss of 1.1%.

Timing was clearly not optimal,..and we were too early in fading the recent improvements in US data and the impact of Greek budget tensions...The technical break of important moving averages may have amplified the Dollar rally.

However,..we continue to believe that the risks to both crosses remain skewed to the upside...In particular the balance of payment situation remains very Dollar negative.

We also remain focused on very stretched speculative short EUR/$ and Cable positions and the related unwinding risks...We would therefore continue to look for opportunities to position tactically for Dollar weakness.

Fear not Goldman,..there is only three months at most before Bernanke announces that he will be forced to buy all MBS from the end of QE 1 into perpetuity.

In the meantime we suggest you do what you do best:..
short the dollar and bet on the imminent demise of America’s middle class.

The US has 3140 counties. Over 90% of these have some crop production. So the 200 odd receiving disaster assistance is only 10% of the total. A county is listed for disaster assistance for specific crops. A county will be listed once a single crop is affected; no matter how important that crop is for agriculture in the county. It can be watermelons or grapefruit in a county that is mainly a soybean producer. USDA data for 2008/09 season http://www.fas.usda.gov/psdonline/psdReport.aspx?hidReportRetrievalName=Table+01+World+Crop+Production+Summary&hidReportRetrievalID=425&hidReportRetrievalTemplateID=2 indicate grain production in the US is down by 11 million tons from 412 to 401 million tons and oilseed production is up by 6 million tons from 83 to 89 million tons. Given the harvest is now in across the country, these numbers will not be very far out. So overall, production is down by 1%. So no record crop production, but hardly a crisis looming.

Agronomist, I'd say that this thread is more about UOG getting
his conspiracy fix for the day, to keep him content. Reality
has little to do with it.
