http://www.agrimoney.com/news/chinas-big-crop-guesses-may-be-down-to-false-data--1131.html
China's big crop guesses may be down to false data Beijing's estimates of huge grains harvests this year may be based on false information, US staff have said, warning of big drops in China's corn and wheat output. US attaches in Beijing have stood by their forecasts that China's corn production tumbled by 16m tonnes this year, with wheat output falling 6.5m tonnes. These estimates are in line with those of many private analysts. The Beijing data continuing to show significantly higher crops may have been distorted by a subsidy regime which pays out in relation to production reported by each province. 'Tempted to overstate' "To gain more allocation of financial aid from the central government... provincial government authorities are occasionally tempted to overstate their grain output in a given year even if the crop was impacted by adverse weather," a report from the attaches said. "Though government agencies report a bumper corn harvest for the sixth consecutive year, [this bureau] estimates that corn production in 2009-10 dropped 9% from the previous year to 150m tonnes." China's official grain think tank, the China National Grain and Oils Information Centre, last month retained its forecast for the crop at 163m tonnes, with the US Department of Agriculture last week standing by a 155m-tonne figure. For wheat, the attaches estimated a 106m-tonne harvest, compared with a CNGOIC figure of 114.95m tonnes and the USDA's 114.5m tonnes. http://www.agrimoney.com/news/corn-market-to-return-to-its-tightest-since-1970s--1075.html http://www.agrimoney.com/news/crops-starting-long-term-bull-run-merrill-says--1112.html http://www.agrimoney.com/news/world-wheat-output-to-fall-for-third-year--1129.html http://www.agrimoney.com/news/smithfield-boss-urges-us-to-go-slow-on-ethanol--1095.html http://www.agrimoney.com/news/rice-price-to-fall-in-2010-as-thais-relax-grip---1084.html http://www.agrimoney.com/news/tories-would-stop-short-of-embracing-gm-foods--1077.html Posted by one under god, Monday, 21 December 2009 10:28:57 PM

UOG, you can add this one to your list of interesting readings..IT'S TOO DARN HOT!
CLIMATE CHANGE: Summer Solstice Prophecy Report on the Drought Prophecies of Nostradamus Bulletin Index Back | Next All material © John Hogue Friends, "At the 48th degree of the climacteric [in other words, latitude 48 in the Northern Hemisphere], at the end of Cancer [late July], so great is the drought, that fish in the sea, river and lake are boiled hectically. Southwest France in distress from fire in the sky." Nostradamus [1555] Century 5, Quatrain 98 "Scientists have traced the regularity of sunspot activity over the last billion years and relate it to 20-year cycles that coincide with periods of drought such as the one that created the famous Dust Bowl in the American farming belt during the 1930s. Sunspot activity is now entering a new phase that will continue up to the year 2000. The great planetary alignment in May of that year is expected to generate some of the greatest sunspot activity ever recorded. "Nostradamus warns us against creating a future drought of biblical proportions that will burn a swath across latitude 48 in the Northern Hemisphere. Drawing a line across that latitude on a map, we touch on nearly all the world's chief grain belts. Today's amber oceans of wheat stretching across North America and the...Ukraine revert to prairies and inhospitable steppes in the [the 21st] century. "QUATRAIN INDEXING [AS A] DATE: Quatrain 98 = 1998? In my last Nostradamus book [Nostradamus: The New Revelations published in 1994], I correctly interpreted the increase in global warming after the mid-1990s when dust from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo [in 1992] that slightly cooled the world had cleared the skies. With this interpretation in mind we can expect a wave of global droughts and heat waves by July 1998. From that time onward, global warming steadily kicks in, disrupting weather patterns, and the climate conditions needed to grow grain start to shift hundreds of miles north of where they are now." for me..the concern is..what the speculators..will do with the numbers..they love shortfall..numbers/of a few percent..like what they recently did with the us dollar..and previously with petro/chemicals..
Goldman’s Attempt..To Ambush Dollar Aborted,.. Tactical Shorts Closed..As Stop Losses Hit Tyler Durden Zero Hedge http://www.zerohedge.com/article/goldmans-attempt-ambush-dollar-aborted-tactical-shorts-closed-stop-losses-hit Monday,..Dec 21st,..2009 Just as the year end onslaught on the dollar was spearheaded to a climax by Blankfein’s minions,..so did Europe finally decide to convulse..under an unbearable lead of ridiculous mispriced “assets” and vomited up a whole load of troubling financial data,..which spread from Greece to Austria to Ireland,..setting sovereign CDS to multi month highs...Obviously, this did not help the weak dollar case and cost GS traders a few hundred million. A note to traders indicates that while Goldman has not lost the war of intergalactic domination, it too, can lose the occasional battles: Last Friday..we..were stopped out of two tactical trades,.long EUR/$ for a potential loss of 1.8% and long GBP/$ for a potential loss of 1.1%. Timing was clearly not optimal,..and we were too early in fading the recent improvements in US data and the impact of Greek budget tensions...The technical break of important moving averages may have amplified the Dollar rally. However,..we continue to believe that the risks to both crosses remain skewed to the upside...In particular the balance of payment situation remains very Dollar negative. We also remain focused on very stretched speculative short EUR/$ and Cable positions and the related unwinding risks...We would therefore continue to look for opportunities to position tactically for Dollar weakness. Fear not Goldman,..there is only three months at most before Bernanke announces that he will be forced to buy all MBS from the end of QE 1 into perpetuity. In the meantime we suggest you do what you do best:.. short the dollar and bet on the imminent demise of America’s middle class. no doudt...many will be left..with fast falling paper promises...when the crop comes in above projections...but in the mean-time..many unnesesarilly will starve Posted by one under god, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 5:13:09 AM

The US has 3140 counties. Over 90% of these have some crop production. So the 200 odd receiving disaster assistance is only 10% of the total. A county is listed for disaster assistance for specific crops. A county will be listed once a single crop is affected; no matter how important that crop is for agriculture in the county. It can be watermelons or grapefruit in a county that is mainly a soybean producer. Shasta County – the latest to be listed – is listed for pasture and forage. http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/newsReleases?area=newsroom&subject=landing&topic=edn&newstype=ednewsrel&type=detail&item=ed_20091217_rel_1535.html
USDA data for 2008/09 season http://www.fas.usda.gov/psdonline/psdReport.aspx?hidReportRetrievalName=Table+01+World+Crop+Production+Summary&hidReportRetrievalID=425&hidReportRetrievalTemplateID=2 indicate grain production in the US is down by 11 million tons from 412 to 401 million tons and oilseed production is up by 6 million tons from 83 to 89 million tons. Given the harvest is now in across the country, these numbers will not be very far out. So overall, production is down by 1%. So no record crop production, but hardly a crisis looming. Agronomist, I'd say that this thread is more about UOG getting
his conspiracy fix for the day, to keep him content. Reality has little to do with it. Posted by Yabby, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 11:17:51 PM

oh gabby ..you and your con-spricy theories...
i saw a beat up comming..and thought i would pre-empt..their beating it up any further... as agromist.. has revealed...there is no shortage..of food at worst a few percent... meaning some..might have to do without their pringles... ..yet you watch... the media... will reveal...millions are starving ...as the securities traders ..look for their next monetory fix..by speculating on food stuff.. i find pre-empting these beatups...works better than waiting till the media gets their spin into the topic.. [like with this global/cooling/warming/change bird flu/peakoil.. sars/aids y2k.....beat ups.... it [and you investors...thrive on Posted by one under god, Wednesday, 23 December 2009 12:22:13 AM

Yabby, same seems to be true of all of OUG's posts. Sadly it took me less than 10 minutes to find the information to debunk this particular conspiracy theory.
I notice OUG has in response to me debunking the conspiracy changed the nature of the conspiracy from Governments hiding an impending food crisis to media and security traders creating a hoax food crisis when none exists. Posted by Agronomist, Wednesday, 23 December 2009 8:48:06 AM

After all that we may see a problem looming if the U.N.indicate a population growth of another 2.9 billion souls in the next 40 years. Only part of the global warming is due to CO2 emissions being the main suspect which acknowledges the environmental science that remains credible after the Copenhagen fiasco.
But that ignores the elliptical orbit of earth around our Sun bringing us close to the heat every few hundred years for past millennium. A closeness that melts the glaciers and the polar caps for a while and the heat increases evaporation causing flooding and snow deposition to then re freeze as the orbit takes Earth further away from the heat.A cycle that is not disputed. However, the numbers suggest that we must grow more food on land that we already farm, increase on farm storages of water and step up on farm reafforestation in a way that would not reduce land for food. Reafforestation should be commercial timber that can be cut and replanted ad infinitum to be the efficient absorber of CO2 that it is while providing the timber to shelter the increase. The whole World must participate, but that's where the problem lies for the present. Posted by Hei Yu, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 5:02:00 AM

are there some basics..we are missing...with the ongoing..media DESTRACTIONS..media silence
yes we know of mono-cropping dangers...and the demise of the family farm
but there is more to it...maybe we should be having other basic discussions...
Take a look at this...USDA..Fails To Report Massive Crop Failure's globally..!
http://www.marketskeptics.com/2009/12/2010-food-crisis-for-dummies.html
its not bad enough we are burning food for fuel...and gmo...and the other issues..mediua keeps its silence on
nut the basics..are falling appart...govt agencies arnt doinmg their jobs
The USDA is lying about record crops in the US ...in order to keep prices low.
As of the end of August... the farmers in the US are out of soybeans...4
regardless of soybeans being grown is torn down amaZON RAIN FORESTS
or plam oil plantations turning whole indigenous lands into mono cropped deserts
the problems arnt completely due to massive crop failures country wide...
but it does match the signs of the end times
Soybeans have gone into backward-ation..(its cash price exceeds future's price)
Cotton, corn soybeans, wheat, potatoes, peanuts, strawberry's, etc, have suffered massive damage.
Worst crop/harvests... in the US history ...for over 275 counties.
Look at this USDA list of disaster counties where crop loss is 30% or higher.
http://www.fsa.usda.gov/FSA/newsReleases?area=newsroom&subject=landing&topic=edn&newstype=ednewsrel
Wait until this hits the news....
You cant keep this covered up for long...
Here is more sample's...
