I have read with interest some of the comments here and I absolutely agree with legalizing euthanasia. It is a right every human being should have; to end their life of misery and pain with dignity and not have their family charged with breaking the law if they help them.

I had a beloved cat euthanized, it was so quick and painless she did not know. We love our pets enough to put them out of their pain.

Why not me or you or anyone who wants to end the misery? I will not live a life of degradation and dependence and I will not have people tell me I should. I fear being immobilised after a stroke and not being able to do this for myself. But I will find a way.

While all the do-gooders are wringing their hands, they are also complaining about the health care beds being taken up by elderly patients. You can't have it both ways. You can't keep people alive by any means then say they are a burden on society. Get real!! When is a government in this country going to get the guts to legalize euthanasia? I hope in my lifetime.

PS. You don't stay young and healthy forever, you might think you will but you don't. There are two things in life that cannot be altered; death and taxes.

RaeBee:

I thank you for your enthustastic support for this subject of Voluntary Euthanasia.

Unfortunately the detractors, most of whom will profess to be true Christians, will continue to refuse and decry any act of humanity until of course they find themselves in the situation of needing an exit strategy, which by then will most probably be too late for them, however we should not have this right taken away from us by this selfish and thoughtless group of recalcitrents!

Yes! the Government should pass a Bill allowing self-administered Voluntary Euthanasia, but unfortunately we have a gutless government
who pander to the medical professionals who simply treat the symptoms rather than administering a cure for the ailments, ....it is simply business as usual and we are NOT allowed to die prematurely whilst there is the chance of them extracting or bleeding another dollar from us the unfortunate victims of greed and avarice!

I would be interested to hear from just one medical "expert" as to what they perceive as any ill effect in the direct administration of an injection of "Green Dream" or Nembutal to a terminally ill patient requiring a peacefull exit?

The argument that if Voluntary Euthanasia was available to all, then everybody would be "doing it" is absolute rubbish. "Green Dream" was available from Veterinarians for lethal injection to sick animals a few years ago, and there was no noticeable record of deliberate human death by, or misuse of this simple drug, so what is the big deal?

Nembutal used to be a legally prescribed drug in Australia. It was used as a sleeping pill. I must point out there were not overwhelming numbers of people euthanising themselves. Why? Because people were allowed to die and not resuscitated to live a life of pain and misery. Then the do gooder, god botherers started their 'life at any price' routines and now we are faced with a health system full of frail and ill old people who would rather have passed on but now have no chance to change the situation. Doctors prescibe medication after medication to keep people living.

I take absolutely no notice of the religious types. They have nothing worthwhile to say and I find them foolish and ill informed.

My family and myself are intelligent and well informed and know what has to be done if the situation arises, I just don't want a family member facing ridiculous charges if they unscrew the cap on the bottle. That's just ludicrous; the law has to be changed. I don't want to have to go to South America to die either.

Right to Life at any cost? What utter nonsence. Some babies born today are kept alive but these children have no quality of life and indeed would have died at birth in days gone by. What is this world coming to? To condeme a little child to that sort of life.
