Tooth decay is still our most common disease because fluoride only increases resistance to acid demineralisation of teeth from food left on teeth, but frequency of consuming acid forming foods like sugar, exceeds acid resistance and any remineralisation from saliva and fluoride toothpaste.

Recent research and the Supertooth and Good Food Friend project has shown that most food is left trapped between teeth under chewing pressure, displacing much previously trapped food, yet 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures on chewing surfaces.

Fissure sealants painted over grooves prevents food being trapped and helps prevent tooth decay.

Convenient foods are being devewoped to chew before meals and snacks to prevent food bing trapped. Also after eating to displace trapped food, neutralise acid amd remineralise any demineralised tooth.

Supertootth, I am guessing the real reason is that people don't brush and floss their teeth sufficiently often. Using these practices would reduce the amount of food trapped in teeth and hence the amount of acid produced.

Other treatments would only provide additional protection. Although the consumption of fluoridated water instead of sugary soft drinks or bottled water would certainly assist in reducing incidence of dental caries.

its to do with acid..[suger makes..acid]..but unmentioned is our water/food..all..is on the acid side of ph..as they say garbage[acid]in garbage out]..there was a lot to be said for using baking-soda..[not flueride in our toothpaste and water]

i was unfortunate to having attended the free-dental/clinics..[mostly with a four year waiting-list]..and getting a..'free/clean'..this clean etched the tooth-enamal from the gum-line of my teeth..[and about two years later..i gegan to get my teeth extracted..[lol..for free]..because there is only..emergency dental/treatment..[if your in pain]

and teeth..rotting out on their gum-line is relitivly painless till its too far gone..and the actual/pain begins...see the current system at redlands dental/hospital is..if your in pain..you ring up..[and ask/beg..for an appointment..its appointment only..[the same..service etched my teeth,..after waiting 4 years for a..'clean'..lol

anyhow..to get an appointment is near impossable..[your put on a waiting-list..[im still waiting..[but i guess the theory is you will ring up constantly/if your in..'real'..pain]...i should ring them back[but am getting used to chewing on my gums

[the two molars/i got left..hurt so bad im simply waiting to get the call-back...knowing..it aint going to happen..but..im over begging on the phone..for an appointment..

my litle bit..[of refenge]..is outing the..dentist..still doing his public/service..on the poor pensioners..in the redlands..its funny they wont even let you keep the rotted-teeth..they pull out..[so i'm leaving the evidence in my corpse...so future archiologists can egsamin them]...and wonder about a dental/service..that serves only itself

yeah i know..it sounds nuts..[but pain does these things to the mind]..i use it..as motivation..to keep on exposing the vile/govt does to all of us...some in obvious ways..other in sneaky/snide..ways but somehow seem to be doing to us..all/allways

yeah i should go to his mates..[privatly]..and get root canal..[mercury put into my gums]..but suspect that is why he mutilated them in the first place..[ie likely has shares in other dental/practices]..that clean up big..by his mutilating the idiots[sorry pensioners...expecting free..lol..dental-service

we should/drop the farce of a free/govt-dental ser-vice..and put basic/dental on medicare..govt is too busy to oversee the acts of their servants..[govt got no call..to be giving dental ..did-service anyhow]..so its time that public-servant..lol..got a real job...he sure aint no healer

Only acid forming foods like sugar and starch that even includes fruit and drinks left on teeth cause acid delineralisation.

Chewing tooth friendly foods like nuts before meals or snacks forces the nuts to be trapped between teeth and even inside grooves on chewing surfaces where 80% of cavities occur. The trapped nuts are hard to displace and help prevent meals or snacks being trapped.

Chewing the nuts after eating helps displace any meal or snack that does get trapped.

Chewing fibre like celery after eating forces saliva between teeth and inside grooves to dilute acid forming foods like sugar, neutralise acid and remineralise demineralised tooth.

New formulations of toothfriendly foods bring all these features together into one convenient type of sugarless confection that is easy to chew before and after eating.

Drinking flouridated water at 1 part per million only toughens the teeth of children while they are forming up to the age of around 15 years.

Adults get little additional benefit because the fluoride needs to be around 1000 parts per million as in toothpaste for the best remineralisation. Toothpaste is not to be swallowed or diluted bu reising out with water but water mouthwash after food or drink can dilute sugar but not inside trapped food.

Kids that come to say with me never get new holes in their teeth while here, even if with me a couple of years.

With lots of wee kids often living here they all have their own drink cup that sits on a shelf in the playroom. These cups only ever have water in them and are constantly checked and filled during the day.

These cups become very special to little kids from about 14 months old. And without being told every kid after they have eaten anything will go have a drink from their cup, even if it is one small lollie they will go have a drink. They will even have some fizzy drink and follow it with a drink from their cups. I don't tell them to this just sort of happens.

So I don’t think what water matters as I have fostered in areas with no chemicals in water.

Me personally – shocking holes, and I am terrified of dentists.

i heard about a few cures over the years..but there is such big bucks in treating the..'disease'....special intrests just arnt going to let that happen

ONI Biopharma Inc recently completed an initial FDA trial of its "SMaRT Replacement Therapy",..the name given to their drug which completely eliminates tooth decay,..according to our interview with Dr. Jeffery Hillman,..the developer of the cure.

Dr. Jeffery Hillman, research professor at the University of Gainesville Florida and research scientist at ONI Biopharma,..told Community Crown the cure was discovered during his research in the 1980's,..but because of the unique nature of the drug a more complete testing process is in being run before it is placed on the market.

Cavities are caused by a high acid level in the mouth according to oral health experts[1]...That high acidity is primarily caused by bacteria known as S. Mutans...Dr.Hillman pointed out to Community Crown that the harmful bacteria strain,S. Mutans,..was not as prolific a few centuries ago when people ate less table sugar(and presumably more nutrient rich fruits and vegetables).

Because of the difference in diets from then to now, cavities were not common...However the modern day diet includes many sugars that welcome the cavity-causing S. Mutans bacteria,..and also exclude fruit and vegetables that promote healthy teeth("An apple a day keeps the dentist away"),leading to more cavities in the modern age.

Dr. Hillman found that by replacing..the cavity-causing bacteria with a more friendly version which does not cause high acid levels in the mouth,..cavities may be prevented completely.

While damage already done to teeth may not be reversed,it seems to stop further damage completely...The treatment will be eventually sold in a liquid or gel solution that is to be spread on the teeth.

The patient then may eat some sugar immediately to speed up the treatment, as strange as that may sound...Table sugar acts as a glue to help the treatment attach to teeth.

The FDA phase IA trial was recently completed with successful results according to Dr. Hillman,..so phase IB is now being planned by ONI Biopharma.
