Recent research and the Supertooth and Good Food Friend project has shown that most food is left trapped between teeth under chewing pressure, displacing much previously trapped food, yet 80% of cavities occur inside pits and fissures on chewing surfaces.
Fissure sealants painted over grooves prevents food being trapped and helps prevent tooth decay.
Convenient foods are being devewoped to chew before meals and snacks to prevent food bing trapped. Also after eating to displace trapped food, neutralise acid amd remineralise any demineralised tooth.
