Victorian Bush Fire Equine Appeal

As I write this the death toll from the Victorian Bush Fires is currently 181. Our thoughts go out to their families and friends and also to those who have friends and family still missing.

Charities will help those who have lost everything but unfortunately the conventional charities are not equipped to provide the much needed support to horse owners

How you can help:

We will be taking donations of feed in the Brisbane area to be transported to Project Hope Horse Welfare Vic for distribution. If you can spare any hay, chaff, feed or supplements it would be extremely appreciated. We have some fantastic feed suppliers already willing to help.

A big thank you to : those who already helped. We will list their names in the next few posts.

It is but a start so if you can manage to spare even just one bag of feed or bale of hay we want to hear from you. If you are not in the Brisbane area but would like to contribute to this feed run you can still do so by calling us to purchase feed through one of our suppliers. We know times are tough at the moment but even one bag or bale will make a difference.

We can take contributions via a direct deposit to our account or via credit card with all moneys received going to buy feed at discounted prices through local feed merchants. Not one cent will be directed anywhere but the purchase of feed.

Don't forget to check with your local feed merchant to see if they would be prepared to act as a collection point. They can also encourage all customers to just purchase an extra bag or bale to be put aside for the "feed run". Just get them to contact us so we can arrange collection.

Bushfire Appeal

In response to the devastating bushfires in Victoria recently, Queensland businesses and individuals have banded together in an attempt to fill a truck with hay, chaff, horse feed, veterinary supplies etc. to send down to those in need.

Headed by Nicole we are seeking donations of the above mentioned items AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. We are hoping that a truck can leave in the next 2-3 days and therefore it needs to be filled in the next 1-2 days.

Over the coming days and weeks charities will help those who have lost everything but unfortunately the conventional charities are not equipped to provide the much needed support to horse owners who need basic horse equipment, horse medical supplies and feed. Many groups have formed across the country to donate equipment and feed and we would also like to help where we can as well. We have arranged for a transporter to take much needed feed from Brisbane area to Melbourne. Once there, it will be distributed to those who need it by "Project Hope". Project Hope are an experienced organisation who will make sure that it gets to the right people.

You can drop items off at our collection points

The fantastic people at Equilibrium have started the ball rolling with a donation of 200 bags of product. Thank you for this very generous offer.

A big thank you to Phil & Kelly Maas of Maroon who are donating hay (as well as getting other growers in the area on board).

Value Plus will be providing bandaging material.

Transportation

SCT Logistics have kindly provided transportation of the supplies to their warehouse in Victoria. Project Hope are working out of part of SCT Logistics’ warehouse in Victoria, showing the commitment this company has in the bushfire appeal.
SCT have also provided a drop off point for donations in South East Qld.

It has been an amazing past few days with the absolute generosity of the horse industry world-wide being shown. We have received donations towards feed from the UK, NZ and even France last night. The donations locally and across Australia have been fantastic so we ordered our first 100 bags of chaff today. We're working on fencing next and still have a good amount in the kitty to get some of those essential supplies also.

Hay donations have been absolutely phenomenal and in addition to the 1500 bales already pledged by Phil Maas (Maroon), Andrew Fraser(Maroon), Albert Snarne and David Potter (Laidley) it looks like we will easily have at least another 2000 bales by early next week. So many people are donating at our feed stores now which is wonderful. Remember even if you cannot afford to spend or donate a lot, every bit counts and one bail or bag makes all the difference. Please check our website on the Bush Fire Appeal page to find the drop off points.

New Special thanks:

* As always, our fantastic transporters SCT Logistics
* Riverina Stockfeeds at Loganlea for donating 2Tonne of horse feed
* Furney's Stockfeeds in Brisbane & Toowoomba for donating 4Tonne of mixed feeds
* PN Beverages for donating approx 200 44 gallon drums for feed storage
* Alphapharm for donating a pallet load of buckets and 60 large plastic blue drums for water and feed containers
* Brookfield Produce who believe they will have collected approx 1000 bales of hay and additional feed by next week
* All our fantastic gear coordinators and drop off point contacts
* Everyone who has phoned through a donation for feed and/or is contributing feed/equipment through our drop off points

Aitkens saddlery are now also able to take credit card donations over the phone and will also accept hay and feed donations at their Underwood store. Edwards Saddleworld is also accepting cash and credit donations in their store in Toowoomba.

Important information re Fire Ants
As I am still learning as I go in regards to state DPI requirements for our feed on its way to Victoria I neglected to think of the impact of fire ants on our hay drop off points. Previously I advised people to drop their hay off at our transporter at Acacia Ridge. This is apparently a red zone for fire ants so we need to ask people to please not deliver any hay to this location. Other feed, supplements, gear and chaff are ok but please no hay. My apologies to anyone who had plans to drop items there. Please just refer to our listing for other drop off locations nearby.

Gear can still be dropped to us at Waterford and also at our SCT Logistics warehouse (just call us or them first).

Carlos News

For an account of the bush fires from Carlos Tabernaberri please visit his website for views and photos. For those lucky enough to have been to Carlos' property will notice the difference now in the surrounding bushland as just amazing. We are just so lucky that he and his family have survived and the property spared so he can continue his good work.

Thank you to everyone who has been in contact and is helping with this appeal. Keep checking our website under the "Vic Bush Fire Appeal" menu for all the latest news.

Kind regards
