Panic is always our worst enemy. When there is a fire in a picture theatre ,it is not the fire that kills most of the people,it is the panic of people trampling over each other and thus blocking exists,so they then suffocate from the smoke.

The same thing happens when we have an economic downturn.People get pannicked by the talk of doom, tighten their spending too much and often end up contributing to the loss of their own jobs.

This is where Kevin Rudd should be speaking words of confidence instead of promising more pain via carbon taxes.Recessions often become self fulfilling prophecies and inflict a lot of unnecessay pain that deepens the malaise.

The RBA are now in unknown territory. We don't have inflation,we have
stagflation. We have rising prices in fuel, food,Govt charges etc,and rising unemployment.Last quarter we lost 90,000 jobs.Increasing the interest rates will only add to the problem. This isn't going to decrease the price of oil and food since they are both inter-dependant and the increases in the short term, are to beyond our control.

What the Govt can do is to speed up the conversion to natural gas and move towards stabalising it's price structure. If they can export it for 4c a litre to China, why are we paying 70c/L here?Kevin can also move more quickly to remedy a problem the Howard Govt failed to address ie preditory pricing and the lack of competition amongst the big retail outlets.Waste and duplication in the Public Service must also be addressed. He should be reading the riot act to our incompetent/wasteful State Govts, especially the Iemma one.

Kevin must forget about saving the planet for a while and focus his attention on saving our economy. He must get pro-active in anticipating problems, instead of hiding behind the re-active endless committees which make great window dressing.

So with a recession at our doorstep, there is no point in being pessimistic,be positive and the pain will be less.

There's 2 things that people often forget:

(1)All booms must bust

(2)All busts must boom

Not once, not even ONCE, in the entire history of modern economics in our country, has this failed to pass.

The "only" catch, is that you need time on your side.

So just relax, have a cup of tea and a good lie down; the boom times are coming.

In several years time, when we're in the middle of the next big boom, we'll of course have the doomsday merchants trying to predict the following bust.

That's the way a modern economy works. There's ZERO need to panic.

A cup of tea is what holds the fabric of society together:)
The worlds dying and we cant stop it because too many folks are filled with the greed that eventually kills a world.
The asian nations eat/devour everything... and we cant stop them.
What can be done?
A cup of tea...and a new focus on Jesus Christ.
At the end of the day its all about our relationship with God and His Saviour Jesus anyway.
Mankind is a poor manager of his world.

There ya go folks, God's the economic answer.

But.......

I bet it's only Gibo's "version" of God. I bet if you don't worship "his" version, then you're in trouble! Oh well, there goes the superannuation.

Even Jesus Christ needed the "economy" all those many years ago, in order to feed and clothe himself and to effectively operate.

I think this a very bad title. The only question that should be asked is whether "Doom" is an accurate response. Far too many in our society simply don't give a !@#$ about anything or are denialists and that has hurt our country badly.

Never heard anything so ridiculous! Then again man has an atrocious record at telling God how things would be if they were God.

"Ridiculous" eh?

Do you deny that the Mary and Joseph were a part of society in those times, and were the Earthly parents of Jesus Christ? Do you deny that Mary and Joseph cared for Jesus while he was young?

If you don't deny these basic facts, then how do you think they acquired the food, clothing and shelter for Jesus? They acquired these essentials by taking part in the economy of the times, just like all the other parents then.

When Jesus grew up and was taking care of himself, how do you think he acquired food, shelter and clothing? Did it just fall from the clouds? Of course not. Both Jesus, and his supporters, participated in the "economy" in order to have shelter, food and clothing for Jesus.

My initial statement stands. Jesus Christ used the "economy" of the times, just like everyone else, in order to provide his food, clothing and shelter.

Steel,if god banished doom, the AGW Cult would lose it's power base. With Global temps still falling, the hockey stick gone, they have now discovered ocean acidification.

I think that people like Steel will be rather disappointed if AGW is proven to be a farce. You'll have no thunder to frighten us with.

Wait. let me get this straight. You are appealing to an adult version of santa claus commonly referred to as God, while equating scientists with religious prophets/end worlders?

Yes there is too much doom and gloom.
But Gibo is unlikely to change, most of it is from him.

Dont get depressed Belly.
The doom and gloom is only for a short period then we see the Second Coming of The Lord.
Surely looking at the world, over the years youve been alive and observing mankinds behaviour, you didnt really believe mankind was going to save the planet he has polluted and raped to the edge of death, did you?
Mankind agrees on little and when we does agree its takes forever to get things changed.
Look at the UN and its chaos.

No...man doesnt save the planet but God comes to bring Correction...i.e. the great Tribulation period.
Those who want Him will turn to Him and His Son Jesus and He will save them.

In the meantime lets petition the PM for greater defence and lets build for the asian armies to come.
I believe that China takes half of the country later on.

Belly,
I'm reminded of a doom and gloom preacher trying to win converts. He went over to one person and said, "Would you like to be a Christian?",
The response was, "No thank you, I already have enough problems of my own."

Talk of 'pain' if not the same as talk of 'doom' - ask any medical doctor - experience has shown that it is better for the patient to know what to expect.

Arjay: "Kevin must forget about saving the planet for a while and focus his attention on saving our economy."

The government did this for too long and we are paying for it now, and even more so into the future.

Arjay: "there is no point in being pessimistic, be positive and the pain will be less."

Saying that there will be pain is not the same as being pessimistic (always expecting the worst) either, it may just be being realistic.
The last thing we need is the government treating us like children and telling us everything is going to be OK when it isn't.

Too right philips, re your boom and bust cycle.

However, One-Term Krudd & Co seem hell bent on giving us another one of Keatings "recession we had to have" and pushing it into a disaster with their stupid Carbon tax "Socialism by Stealth" agenda

Gibo,

'No...man doesnt save the planet but God comes to bring Correction...i.e. the great Tribulation period.

'

How will this all happen in practical terms? I mean the bar code is everywhere, but God is sleeping in? When he wakes up, how does he show himself to man. Will all the non-believers spontaneously combust? How will the different flavours of Christianity fare? And the Muslims? The Hindus? Did they pick the wrong team? Do they get one last chance to change teams? Will he take the believers on a space ship to a new planet and blow this one up? What medium will god use? Will it be like a dog whistle for Christians, or will he materialise and go on Dave Letterman?

Sams,I wrote this since I was feeling really down about our economy myself. We are all going to die one day,but we don't dwell upon it.I'm a realist.NSW is already in a recession, but as I've pointed out,Kevin's Govt need to get their heads out of the clouds and start looking at the reality,or come next election ,they will be gone!

It is interesting Gibo that the last time your God saved the earth he killed so many.
Every animal on earth bar a few, every human bar his mates, I will take my chances thanks.
We are in trouble, fuel and food alone are going to pull the economy down, but we will find new fuel.
And we will grow more food.
Just ten years ago we paid farmers in some parts of the world not to grow food.
And we still pay some for food that stands unsold.

This thread previously contained a message that claimed to be from Ross Garnaut. This was an impersonator, well-known to us, banned here previously, and banned from other sites such as Wikipedia.

Some members have questioned why posts started disappearing, and accusations of bias have already been made.

In summary, the real Garnaut has *not* been here this week: not posting the half-baked ideas about artificial climate control, nor the rant about conspiracies against Pauline Hanson, nor the new thread about "Doctor Who" with links to his own fake web site.

Wayne Smith come Kerry Shine seems to be an egotist of empty vessel proportions. Were you trying to playing the court jester who failed and now are relegated to poncing around cyberspace as the village idiot?Your problem is Wayne, you have just enough intelligence to be a nuisance, but not enough to make a difference.

Phillips"All booms bust, all busts boom"True to a degree.Under the Howard /Costello team, they took us through the Asian crisis and the recession of the late 90's in the US and Europe. Now the present crisis we will not escape, however the reaction of the present Labor Govt so far is apalling. They have no made no attempt to confront the reality. It is not business as usual. We have more urgent needs than their perceived glamour of being climate change Crusaders.

It would be more re-assuring if this present Labor Party had just bit more talent.Kevin is acting like a child granted his every wish in a toy shop.He does not know which one to select, nor does he care about the cost to his parents. He cannot believe his luck.Every opportunity is a photo shot for Kev's ego.If Kevin cannot see what we see, then how can he make sound judgements for the benefit of all Australians?

Usual Suspect.
God reveals Himself to men and women and children everyday and all day.
Where have the non-believers been that they dont know whats been going on?
Some christians say as many as 40,000 worldwide come to know Jesus each day.
Christians are out there in the harvest field all of the time leading people to Christ.
When a person invites Jesus in, sincerely, God Sends His Holy Spirit and the person comes to know God because His Spirit now dwells within that person.
Try some sites on Johns Revelation if you want to know more.
<the signs that we are in the endtimes> is good.
The programme reads...
1. the rise of the antichrist (mark of the beast 666) probably in Europe...
2. the beginning of the 7 year Tribulation period and all of its horrible events...
3. the antichrist and his False Prophet (One World Church leadership) kill many people who dont take the mark/microchip on either the right hand or forehead (Revelation 13:16-19 and 14:9-11)...
4. China gets tired of the antichrists mad behaviour and marches out to Armageddon killing 2 billion people along that road (Revelation 9:16 and 16:12/the kings of the east)...possible southern movement of that vast 200 million soldier army down int0 Australasia.
OZ Defence not ready (would they ever be!).
Half the nation lost to Red army...
5. the Second Coming of Jesus Christ...
and anywhere in that 7 year period the christians can suddenly vanish...leaving the non-christians behind to face the end.
This is called the Rapture of the church...Jesus protecting His people from the horror.
Too bad if you dont know Jesus, chaps, on that wonderful Day when the christians go home.
