I believe comedy is the spice of life. Does this help in making us all pull togetter.

Our thoughts.

Give it to me!

Evo..yes, comedy is wonderful.

Ambiguous sexual innuendo, 'dirty' talk... does not make me want to laugh..

There is so much 'funny' stuff our there which a good comedian could work with... rather than taking the 'easy path of sleaze', I just wish they would.

Shelly Berman.."The Driving Instructor".... and many others.. hilarious.. every day situations..

Frazier.. (mostly) well constructed comedy with many layers.. so many that when you suddenly get it after watching the show for a long time... and all the nuances of the characters are captured in the punch line.. it just erupts into such gut wrenching laughter one is tempted to sue for personal injury :)

Keep it clean... 'family values' :)

See this is where this idiocy starts. Someone is offended by something, therefore society can't offend them. Therefore society must ban the cause. It's the idea behind all censorship in Australia.

Comedy will probably be next to go after Henson as you can read by BOAZ' comment.

Other people who believe in reaching a compromise with the religious must realise that such compromise only ends with the religious demanding more and moving to their next target. They want a theocracy in Australia (in law, not necessarily function) and they will continue to work the gullible until they have one (like Islamists).

One problem with comedy today is the frantic nature of it. Jack Benny could do more with a significant pause than some do with three hours of busy business. Timing, building to an apotheosis, making the familiar seem ridiculous and causing us to confront our prejudices and ourselves in a new way are all the stuff of comedy.

Lenny Bruce was banned because of his skirting the edges of what was considered respectable. He got the wowsers all upset, but he made some people think.

I like the meaningful aphorism. Dogma is a bitch. You can lead a horticulture, but you can’t make her think.

We can demystify the taboos. I had a friends whose wife got all upset when she heard their little boy say a vulgar verb synonymous with the sexual act. The child seemed to use it to get a rise out of his mother.

My friend wisely said to the little boy. I’d like to know how many ways you can say that word. Please say it in as many ways as you can think of it in the next ten minutes. The child rarely used the word again. It has great effect if used like a condiment as a seasoning rather than a main course. That’s the sort of thing that Lenny Bruce did.

I also believe comedy is the spice of life......that's why I find Rove Live to be utterly lacking in "comedy" entertainment value. The so called attempts at comedy are often immature, amateurish and just plain boring.

By the way, what's the deal with the use of the "F" word in live comedy? All a comic needs to do these days is insert a few strategically placed "F" words into the routine, and the audience gives an IMMEDIATE response. Are we so dumbed down as an audience that we think the "F" word is funny? It seems so.

I guess we get the comedy we deserve. And a lot of the current day comedy in Australia is poorly written, poorly performed, exceedingly amateurish and just plain boring, boring, boring.

I'm sure you're right philips about some comedians here, though in the manner of a scattershot: you make a blanket statement and you will hit a few by nature of the breadth of it.

I personally think it's more likely you just don't get the joke.
