Anybody following the recent stories about Hospital inadequacies could get the impression that all these problems started in the last few years.
From my experience, these problems have been around for at least the last 20 years and I have the legal documents to prove it. I think the overall problem is funding but there's a hell of a lot of blame-shifting between governments and crippling levels of administration for health professionals at all levels. What's made things worse is the reduction in bulk-billing that's put pressure on Hospital Emergency wards, the lack of aged care facilities and the concept of Economic Rationalism that simply cannot work in a service environment without a reduction in the quality of service provided. An overhaul of the whole system is long overdue and I hope that the current Government has the courage to get something done. Posted by wobbles, Friday, 25 January 2008 12:45:01 AM

The major problem is funding and this is due to the incompetence of state government.
We only recieve 60% of funding as the state keeps the other 40% of our funding. This is fact so how do we fix this. Well we have to say thank you to the unions and media for their treatment of the people. Posted by tapp, Friday, 25 January 2008 9:59:46 AM

I totally agree with Wobbles. Our entire Health System needs a complete overhaul.
Jeff Kennett has a lot to answer for in the state of Victoria. He cut funding and destroyed the hospital system to the point where wards were shut down and "junk" equipment was stored in hospital corridors (illegally) blocking exits for spare parts in case of emergencies. It will take the Labor government at least another ten to twenty years to recover. Hopefull the new PM will keep his promise to work with the states and restore the health system nation-wide. Apart from the deliberate lie that our state government only spends 60% of its health money on health funding and training is a very real problem.
So too is infrastructure new Hospitals and equipment are needed badly. The very fact we have two separate systems public and private is of little help. But in this debate we must highlight far less tragic events are reported from private hospitals why? We must not over look in the NSW case, yes this problem is in every state, actions of individuals is clearly not good, how can a nurse give medicines that the Doctor has forbidden to a patent? Is failure to carry out the job they are paid to do playing some part in this crisis? Given NSW is the state with the biggest numbers we can expect a bigger problem, even than Bundaberg? maybe. I am stunned, in no way defending this states leader, the invisible man , our states leader so silent for so long seems to think his white shirt with coat over his shoulder looking statesman like will remove his lack of action for so long? go now mate please! Belly you believe what you are told.
That fact is only 60% is spent and the state government keeps the other 40% this is fact from people in state government in the know, and from a very reliable source. Fact So Belly you should keep your lies as usual to yorself and those gullable enough to believe your party and union deciet. When it comes down to it the state labor government is just a thief. Maybe you would like to try the defamation angle take me to court and then I will be required to have my source stand, and then you will see the truth. Calm down Tapp your fantasy party must confront truth Labor is in every state.
Your wild statements are symptoms of something other than truth. You may not believe it but you have my sympathy. No defense of my party in NSW but this problem has grown under all forms of government. Your victory? in that poll saw less than 2% vote for you, saw the seat become one of our safest in this state. I leave the thread it is pointless to contribute while you insult reality, a problem exists in health we must fix it but how unions can be blamed for it is beyond reality. Be constructive in your dislike of the party elected to govern in every Parliament in Australia, be aware insulting voters understanding of issue may see the need to look into a mirror to find who is out of touch. See belly believe what you are tolchange the subject but you cannot handle the truth.
The truth is the states keep 40% for themslves while we only get 60% of funding. As i said i won and those who voted for me. I stood for the people not party dictatorship. This is all fact and as you enjoy being treated like a slave then so this must be. I am not the loser Posted by tapp, Saturday, 26 January 2008 1:18:20 PM

The following expose was conducted between 2001 and 2006 by 2 eminent health academics and released in December 2007. Perusing just the Abstract should suffice.
This survey reveals how all state governments have suppressed vital health and environmental information from being released to its citizens including wantonly exposing people to environmental toxins. The greatest suppression of health information occurred during 2005/2006. I believe it goes towards vindicating my own ongoing Appeal endeavours submitted to the state Convenor and that of a handful of my associates. Is it not time for others to understand the Appeals system and consider officially objecting to the irresponsible decisions made by the grubs strutting our halls of parliament and their often corrupt senior bureaucrats who must take responsibility for the dire state of our health system? Citizen apathy will continue to be to this nation's detriment. http://netk.net.au/Federal/Health.pdf It's pleasing to learn that this pretty boy will no longer be at the helm of the disgraceful public health system in WA: http://www.news.com.au/perthnow/story/0,21598,23112498-2761,00.html Posted by dickie, Saturday, 26 January 2008 7:27:37 PM

Good articles there dickie.
This really does show how arrogant these political parties are, and how they decieve the people. It is no wonder that belly is now running as when the truth is handed out it just doesnt suit. All we get is party dictatorship and not representation and like here in charlton we have the unions now complaining about labor, not because they are stabbing the people in the back, oh no, but because they are not obeying party policy. The people are who should be represented not party policy and the unions still stand and fight not for us but themselves and party politics. The people should come first and should be trully represented, not just Claytons representation. Posted by tapp, Sunday, 27 January 2008 12:20:10 PM

Yes. However only chance seeing this happen is when both Federal and State levels select their G-G/Governors by popular ballot. Separation of Powers requires separation of Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches. Separation of Powers is not present whilst Legislature is also the Executive. We need select G-G/Governors by popular ballot; Then G-G/G's must select their Ministers from Members of either House of their Parliament. Legislatures set ground rules for Executive to manage under, whilst keeping Executive branch answerable on their day to day management in terms of those ground rules. These changes may not need Constitutional amendments, with process for selecting G-G/Governors able to be legislated by simple majority in respective Federal and State Parliaments. With such separation of powers people might support fixed terms for all the legislative branches. . Posted by polpak, Sunday, 27 January 2008 8:02:47 PM

It would seem as well as underfunding we are suffering from poor service from health professionals at every level.
Nurses to specialists we do all know a story Can money alone fix our health?
I have my doubts in another thread we complain about visits to Doctors but all our health system needs attention surely?
