The BBC has now issued a grovelling apology to Trump for editing his January 6 2021 speech to make it seem that he had called on his followers to stage an insurrection. They took two parts of the speech, separated by 54 minutes and talking about entirely different things, spliced them together and gave the utterly wrong context to what was said.

Now that Trump has threatened to sue, two senior BBC executives most involved in the deception have been booted out and the BBC is grovelling at Trump's feet for forgiveness.

I wonder if our ABC, who did EXACTLY the same thing, with EXACTLY the same false splice, will have the integrity to make the same grovelling apology. Actually I don't wonder. There is no way our ABC has the integrity to own up. At the moment their keeping the head down, hoping Trump doesn't notice.

Also, as part of the investigation into the BBC's lies about Trump, it was also revealed that, since the outbreak of war in GAZA the BBC, as a whole, has been forced to retract or alter, on average, two stories per day because they were based on false Hamas propaganda. Despite that I'm sure the usual suspects will believe fervently the next anti-Israel story out of the public broadcaster.

I believe that the Panorama team justified the splice because they believed that Trump had incited the riot, so their editing was merely an exercise of efficiency.

If the matter gets to court it would be comical to see the defence argue, "Well of course Trump incited the riot. Just look at the Panorama documentary.". I've seen other reports that the BBC used similar footage in other programming. It might be prudent to for them to remove all such footage from their available content.

I guess that Trump did incite the riot if you use the same reasoning that makes wind and solar cheap and Israel genocidal.

"Despite that I'm sure the usual suspects will believe fervently the next anti-Israel story out of the public broadcaster"

Absolutely I will!
Without even fact checking
It'd be no different to what you do.
Feign offense at every minor whinge whilst never acknowledging Israel ever does anything wrong.
Israel = Always justified
Palestinians = Never Justified.

You'd think it was the Jews in the concentration camp with your narrative.
Shame it isn't, it might jog their memories.

The so called Palestinians cosy up to a terrorist organisation. Miles of tunnels did not happen without and end in sight towards Israel.
A gigantic failure created by Palestinians and Iran.
For some reason Iran is on the back burner. Palestinians are in limbo as to their elegance.
If the status quo is the end result. There is only one outcome for them to look forward to, no one wants their presence probably of terrorist followers. A delema of their own making.
The proven fact is Palestinians and Israelis cannot live in peace.

The problems at the ABC are similar to those at the BBC. Not only have we had similar misleading edits of Trump’s speeches and similar one-sided reporting of the Gaza conflict, we have also seen Four Corners run – and fail to retract – debunked conspiracy theories about Russia’s involvement in Trump’s first election victory, and the shocking addition of gunfire to the soundtrack of a documentary on the Afghan war to make it seem that our soldiers were firing on civilians. Not to mention the pile-ons that helped destroy the careers of George Pell and Christian Porter.

There is a role for unashamedly left- or right- wing commentary in the private and independent media, but both the ABC and BBC have legal obligations to be fair and impartial - obligations which they regularly and blatantly breach. And the problem is not even just bias in the way that the Guardian or Crikey tend to have a left-wing bias, or Sky News and the Australian have a right-wing bias. It is seriously shonky journalism, misrepresenting the facts to promote a political cause
